People will say it's because 3 ended with humanity being killed off but if you look up dev interviews they did intend to make a fourth one where you'd play as Ellie in Earth and it'd be more survival crafting. It didn't happen simply because EA didn't like how 3 sold and shot Visceral in the back of the head, the end.
