That big bad GPU you have isn't doing you much good if you're still using your old ancient monitor
You do have a nice monitor, right /v/?

Yeah, I do have a nice monitor.
1080p 144fps

I do not need more.

I still am using a "ASUS ROG SWIFT PG258Q 25-inch (24.5-inch) eSport Gaming Monitor"

Got it September 2018. Been on once almost every day since. It was quite expensive at the time and it came with G-Sync module with DDR3 ram inside. 240Hz 1080p.

7 years, 5 months and still works fine. When it dies I might have to give it a burial with honors. All the porn it's seen.

yeah i have a 2k monitor. i didn't waste my money on 4k since i don't have own an *80 tier card which is what you need unless you're enjoying the creamy smooth 24 FPS console experience.

This will never be not retarded.
I have an OLED TV, I love it and it's great for watching movies and playing some games. I will never use that as a monitor because if I actually treat as a regular monitor it will have noticeable burn in in less than half a year.
Unless of course I do all of the following
>Always have taskbar to autohide and frequently move it from bottom, top, left and right side.
>Solid black background or rotating video as background
>NEVER use maximized windows
>ALWAYS move windows to a different place
>Set up monitor timeout for 1-2minutes
>Never play any game with fixed UI elements for more than 200 hours (less than that if UI is red)
And the list goes on to a ton of other little annoyances.
Something that can't handle static elements being displayed for 8+ hours a day every single day is a terrible monitor.

the big bad GPU I have is barely putting out performance on a 1440p display, even with fake frames and fake resolution. What good would getting a better display do?

Ok but how much did the monitor manufacturer pay for this article?

Been using mine for a year with 0 burn in

You know as much as it comes with the knowledge that basically everything worth playing can be played on around the Steam Deck's specs and that's pretty cool.
I really wish I wasn't knowledgable enough to get annoyed at the assertion that you need a strong gpu for OLED and HDR.

CRT didn't need 360hz to look smooth

I bought a 4k monitor and I've been regretting it constantly.
It DOES look objectively better and sharper than my old 1080, and that's why I hate it so much.
The improvement is incredibly minor, but it's still enough to be very noticeable to me, which makes the idea of going back to a 1080 painful.
The FPS loss is fucking drastic though.
I was easily hitting 60-90 FPS in shit like Dragon's Dogma 2 and Monster Hunter Wilds on my old 1080.
Now, I'm struggling to keep it above 25 in those same games on the 4k, but I know going back to the blurriness of a 1080 would be like giving myself a permanent rash with the constant irritation of looking at the poorer picture quality.
The monitor is one of the last things you should be upgrading.
Make sure you've got a monster GPU first.

I have a 27" 1080p monitor with 165hz refresh, same one since around 2021.
Once you're used to the high framerate it's way harder to put up with even 60fps so I'm not upgrading my monitor even on a 9800x3d/5080 system

I've heard that OLED's get burn in, so I stick with my IPS which looks just as good as it did when I first got it 15 years ago
