Thoughts? Why does the western fanbase ignore/underrate this one so much?
It sold better than V in Japan.

Honestly I loved it, it's my third favorite, only 3 and 4 above it. I imagine it's partially because the translation patch on SNES still has bugs and they did things like removing DQ5 monster recruiting for the DS port of 6. It was also before party chat for the original release, so the characters don't get as much characterization originally as its successor DQ7, which also has a small cast of recruitable characters but you hear from them way more, and while I don't like it as much as 6 to actually play, DQ5 has a fantastic narrative throughout that is probably the biggest reason people over here in the west love it so much when they have played it.

Few reasons
>SFC version never localized, only has an incomplete fan translation with game-breaking bugs
>only the DS version gets localized, but the DS remake lifts the same graphics from 4 and 5 DS diminishing the game's identity and atmosphere, on top of gutting features like monster recruitment
>western JRPGfags are significantly more casual storyfags than Japs, so they tend to disregard a JRPG more if it's not incredibly railroaded and setpiece focused like DQ5

Because the game wasn't released in the USA until 2011. And the 3ds got released in 2012. Games that come out at the ass end of a consoles life cycle often get ignored. 6 is a really good dragon quest game with a great overworld.
