As a kid, Monster Rancher 2 felt like the deepest game ever made. You had tons of options right out the gate, it wasn't clear what long-term effects your decisions would have, and the game made it very clear that it wasn't going to stop you from completely fucking up. Once you know how to play optimally, you can't force yourself back into that exploratory mindset.
