Always assumed it was just an East vs West thing. In the West people seem to respond better to Father/Daughter Mother/Son pairings. In the East as far as I can tell and have heard it's always been about siblings. The bond with your brothers or sisters or both.

So I guess the west wants to fuck their kids/parents and the east wants to fuck big/little bro or sis. I prefer Gestalt. It was how I first experienced it, and I liked how that all rolled out. Also the voice actor was the same voice actor for the announcer for Street Fighter 4. Which I found endlessly entertaining.

Replicant just makes more sense but I still love Gestalt. The remake is good with some combat mods, outfits and additional OST options making it the definitive experience if you ignore Kaines route.
