Ah, I love the 107 update! I'll admit, while I figured it was rational that the notes of "added presets" meant the custom presets, a small part of me was hoping they meant something along the lines of face presets. But even still, love all the extra additions!
Though, it's kinda weird how they made new game plus difficulty a menu toggle. And one that persists across all characters...I'm definintely happy to have it, just a weird way to implement it. I'm guessing because it was added after the fact.

Honestly, I'm not learned enough in Japanese shit talking to fully understand the intent of 「…どこの異形魔獣の骨とも知らん男…」。どこの~ can be read as 馬の骨, or "someone of unknown (familial) origins". With the section starting with どこの~, and ending with ~の骨, my inclination is to assume it's a play on words where Camilo is deriding the protag as someone of unknown origins, but swapping "horse" for "grotesque beast" to be extra cunty about it. However, at the end of the day, I remain a try hard できない

You should gain now more affinity from being accompanied as long as the enemies match your level. No idea if they also buffed the gifting but there is now a shop you can buy everything for 3k haze each anyway.

I didn't ask for that feature. Doesn't appeal to me. But NG+5 doesn't either. If I'm replaying I want a new character, a new main weapon and some build changes. Unfortunately for CV2 finding the sweet spot where it's harder but not annoying is tough. Doing lvl 1 playthroughs with lvl 1 weapons and no improvements to healing is doable but it's kinda lame ngl.

If I'd known how this was going to play out I'd have levelled up the character but not levelled up any weapons instead of the reverse. Now I'm left with a game where bosses die in less than a minute and my character dies in one hit but it doesn't matter because you respawn endlessly and have shitloads of estus which instantly full heal after respawning
What does this game look like if you try to play it normally by levelling up and upgrading everything with a companion? I can't imagine there's even a videogame to be played during normal progression

Most people cry about no co-op or the bosses being unfair so we're outvoted regardless of how easy the game is. If you level up pretty much anything too much you'll trivialize the difficulty and yes it's hard to find the Goldilocks range. I haven't found it yet. Not upgrading anything, besides normal Bloodcode progression, hasn't exactly been a lot of fun. Maybe upgrading weapons too would be the right choice so you're made of the thinnest paper but at least you can kill the bosses and regular mooks in a reasonable time frame. Haven't quite progressed far enough to get to the actually challenging fights.

From what I can tell, if you don't level the character up then enemies start one-shotting you by about the mid point of the game. But getting oneshot doesn't kill you because the game is silly. Also that's unbuffed, if you start buffing survivability you can be tanky even at level one and there are a lot of other tools that will prevent you dying like survive fatal hit with 1HP when above threshhold, which is all of the time. Also since you have no HP every estus full heals you and resets the resurrect
I started out just doing moderate weapon upgrades and no level upgrades, took everything to +1/+3, but halfway through the game my unbuffed damage on trash felt like it was becoming a slog and I decided to go up to +3/+9. But then I found Blade Dance and now if I go all in on damage buffs my damage is too high, the buffs are too impactful again. Meanwhile I'm still getting oneshot 8-10 times per fight on first attempts but without actually dying which is frustrating and silly
What the game really needs is no resurrects and lower damage gains from buff stacking

There are a couple bosses that don't leave you much time to breathe. And bosses that spam spells with huge AoE. Hero Zenon was a big difficulty jump so I wouldn't be shocked if some players got filtered by him. Frantz and I'm blanking on his name but the first Bodyguard/Assassin guy you fight are pretty challenging early game bosses.
I wouldn't disagree that some bosses/elite enemies have unfair attacks that are basically guaranteed to hit you. That's just not really a problem when you level up your stuff and heals normally though. First timing bosses in CV2 is quite common due to how much healing you can get combined with guaranteed revives. I dunno. They finally nerfed Bell Bitches which is an inarguably good decision but they really should've did that sooner.

I must not understand your question, in that case. You can play the entire game and complete Zenon's questlines without ever getting Jadwiga as a companion. Do you mean connected by family/blood? Then Iris and Noah also fit that category.

Yes but it depends on what attack you get hit by. Some attacks seem to be percentage based rather than flat damage or they're just meant to interrupt you because I still do survive attacks in the mid game. But heaven forbid you be anywhere near a grenade explosion because that's a guaranteed death.

No they're good. It allows the game to bullshit you on occasion and include unfair attacks that are extremely difficult to avoid. Even when you level up normally bosses can 2 shot you very quickly so the game is balanced around the revive existing. You've simply upgraded your healing too much if you were looking for ball busting gameplay. There are enemies that can easily kill you twice before you can run away and heal yourself, engagements where you're outnumbered and enemies that'll throw daggers or grenades if you try to flee.
Try your image fight without spamming AoE spells. The game can be a lot harder if you actually want it to be. Or it can be a cool action game where you have tons of OP tools to use and feel powerful. But there's no benefit to them balancing the game in a way where you're gonna die twenty times regardless of how much you upgrade your character.

With resurrects happening as often as they do it is practically impossible to Fail at endgame bosses, because even if you get oneshot by a single hit of a big bullshit attack sequence you will just "die" become invulnerable as you slowly stand up and the rest of the attack whiffs through you, then you tap one healing item and you're instantly full again with another resurrect ready to go. And you can do that what... 15 times in a single fight? How long does a boss fight need to be for the boss to kill you through 15 cheat deaths

That's just not accurate. I don't know where you're getting it from. The resurrection has a cooldown. Healing back to full doesn't reset it. The first revive cooldown is very short but subsequent revives until you touch another Mistle get longer and longer.

having a companion out actually does make the game harder
merging with your companion gives you a significant stat buff and causes enemy and boss aggro to focus solely on you. With the companion out, you lose that buff and the enemy aggro is split, which can make some attacks unpredictable or annoying to dodge/parry from different angles
I played the entire game with a companion out and had a hard time, played through NG+ with a companion merged the whole time and the game turned into a breeze

Huh? That's just a mock-up of what the Thorns Jail (Ivy Blood Veil) would do in-game.
I'm not sure what more time would have done besides maybe a different opening to the game that explains the Island that blows up and how you died. At least that's what I would focus on, that or fleshing out Gobbo's plot line. Code Vein 2 and lots of UE5 games would've benefitted from alpha releases/actually competent playtesting. If CV2 launched as it is right now, I think things would've gone better. Not crazy but better. And that required a launch and then 2.5 months of feedback based patching. Surely they're still working on the DLC too and we have no idea as to the extent of it.

I bracketed in the what I recalled it being called in CV1. It works the same in both games.
Code Vein was a mess but I think it was one of those projects where they started making a game and then people saw it and said "I like this but I don't like that," and they basically reworked the game to meet what people said. Io went from minor (probably generic) character into a central story figure. Her actual implementation into Code Vein is quite tenuous. She's in the beginning, then mid game she's completely absent and then later mid game she says she wants to start going on adventures with you but the story and cutscenes never reflect that. And then she suddenly appears at your side twice during the Finale. Once before the boss at the doors and then during the good ending final cutscene. The God Eater connection might've saved the game in some sense but casuals keep telling me CV2 not being a direct sequel killed all their interest so that really didn't help in the long run. Love Code Vein but it's a miracle series. The first game was an extremely troubled development and it's miraculous that they stitched it together just enough to somehow make an excellent game. And then 2 even happening at all is kinda crazy. I'm grateful it exists and turned out as good as it is.

I want to do a CV1 rerun, but I vaguely remember issue with companions.
As in - with companion game becomes disturbingly easy, and without companions you supposedly miss out on lore/dialogues they dump as you travel.
I thought there would be some mod that just boosts enemy hp/damage to oblivion, to compensate for companion boost, but surprisingly there aren't.
Question is - how impactful are companion commentaries are in CV1? Or give me some other insights on the entire topic of companions/difficulty.
Mind you, I don't really want to do SL1 run or hold my hand on character building for the entire playtrough because I remember that aspect of the game being rather fun.

I feel like not bringing Io of all people kind of defeats the purpose. I've found some ridiculous boss HP multiplier mod, maybe it will even out the field at least a little. Open world should not be anyhow challenging on the rerun anyway.
I really regretted not doing it on the first run, "you did not beat it" approach really played a bad joke that time.

I don't like how there are some little side dungeons etc that are either tied to the main story or a side quest and are either missing a boss until you do that or is blocked partway through
really it's a failure of the game being open-world. I feel like the open world aspects make the game suffer more than benefit it. While some of the differences in the open world between timelines is pretty cool, I wish they were more drastic, especially when you start making changes in the past
having an open world game with time travel lends itself well to doing more drastic changes, but I think the biggest one in the game is how present day that one lake is drained and that's pretty much it

the fact that I still find things I haven't looted yet. Shame there is no item tracker formae. Code Vein had a gift for telling you how many collectibles an area had left and a radar.

The companions only seem to point out the most obvious items. I hate going through the world blind to maybe find something. Plenty of dead ends where you find enemies but nothing to loot even if it looks like a perfect place for an item. I dislike that you cannot use all companions from the get go in NG+ too. You get Craig, Lise and Zenon so late there is basically nothing left to raise affinity with unless you skip everything. Other than the obvious companions like Lou where I have 100% I got the others all high enough to unlock all trade items at least.

was the original story ever revealed? Project announcement and the first trailer had a lot of things that were reworked for the final game. I remember Eva was supposed to be the leader of an enemy gang, Lost seemingly had a different role, Mia was all psycho and Yakumo would point a gun at the MC which was recycled for the cutscene after the butterfly fight. I faintly recall some datamined stuff as well like the original intro scene but that's about it.
