Daughter You Never Had edition.
>What the heck is this
/indie/ is the general for all indie games, such as Age of Decadence, A Hat in Time, Axiom Verge, Baba Is You, Battle Brothers, Battlerite, Card City Nights 2, Cave Story, CrossCode, Cultist Simulator, Darkwood, DashBored, Dead Cells, The Desolate Hope, Disco Elysium, Environmental Station Alpha, FTL, Guacamelee!, Hollow Knight, Knytt, LISA, Lobotomy Corp, Machinarium, Middens, Monolith, Monster Train, Noita, OFF, OneShot, Rimworld, Rain World, Slap City, Slay the Spire, Starsector, Subnautica, Sunless Skies, Tooth and Tail, Underrail, VA-11 HALL-A, Yume Nikki, etc., as well as other games that just don't fit in any other general such as Atelier, Pillars of Eternity, Rayman, and Valkyria Chronicles. /jrpg/ is welcome. Idle games are cool too.
Mobile or consoles, Flash or Unity, freeware or early access. This place is a home for the indie game community and indie and obscure games that don't have a home. So be free to talk and share all your hidden gems, forgotten games and starving devs here.
>Can I talk about games that already have a general?
We mostly discuss games that are not popular enough for their own threads, however, all indie games are allowed. So talk about them if you want, but don't overdo it since you already have other generals for that.

I'm starting to get to the point where the "deductions" in the game are just narrowing down a 50/50, making an assumption and seeing if it leads to a contradiction, which is technically what the whole game boils down to but when these chains get to the point of filling half the board it sort of undermines the whole "you never have to guess" paradigm. Unless I'm missing some method...

Neat. I'm not at the stage where I can mass produce lamps yet but I've been wondering what sort of design I should go for once I can. Need to strike some balance between something that's looking nice but quick to make if I want to build lots of these.
What materials are those and did you chisel the whole post, or are those fences?
Cute kiln btw
>>563441984
>Vintage Story is fundamentally differently paced. You might like taking your time to slowly build up a mine. You could even do a bit of design to make your mines look nicer without disrupting the core mining gameplay
Yeah, that thought did cross my mind and I'm considering either turning it on mid playthrough or using it on the next. And I do have some moments where I honestly just want to get some ore asap and not have to fiddle with beams, you know? Especially triangulating deposits while also keeping the mine looking nice does sounds like it could be a bit of a hassle

>VS really lets you sink endless hours into detailing just about any little thing.
>Hopefully I can keep this world around for a long time without needing to generate a new one for future story updates.
Yeah man, I've once saw a video of someone talking about why he likes to keep a forever world in Minecraft where he plays on all the time, instead of generating new ones constantly, but I feel like that concepts applies so much more to Vintage Story.
I don't think I'll ever build a huge castle or city like some people do, it would feel too lonely, but I can definitely see myself covering my starter island in lots more buildings and moving on from here eventually.
I personally am hoping that since I've generated an island world, I can just migrate to a different continent instead of generating a new world, if there is ever the need for it because of updates. Even if it would feel silly if, for example, the river update comes out and I'll have to pick a new place to live simply because none of the places I've been to have rivers.
Also I think there is a command that regenerates all chunks that you haven't touched (or you can even set a threshold of changed blocks, so it doesn't care if you destroyed a tree single during exploration or something. The one time I tried it there were too many changes between the mapgens of both versions so it didn't work too well, but I'm hoping that will also help with transitioning between versions.

The entire lamp post is chiseled. I didn't come up with the design, it's an imitation of a lamp post from elsewhere in the game.
The post is debarked log and the decorated beam is originally wrought iron, but I wanted to use metal matching the lantern (or a less expensive lookalike material because making 2 full metal blocks from 24 ingots and then using 2 ingots worth of metal as chiseled material is insanely wasteful)
The kiln is a standard steel cementation furnace with some chiseled bricks on the exterior to smoothen the shape and make repairing it easier.

>It's probably going to make me an in-game year or two
Well, it's already been two years and the tower is not yet finished. At least it's no longer a dirt pillar but much work remains to be done. It doesn't yet have the overall look I want for it, but a rough sketch is starting to take shape. Eventually every floor should look less solid than the one under it, with the top being not much more than a skeleton of wooden supports standing on the uppermost andesite stone ring.
I keep getting distracted by finer detailing and fun side projects like turning the Real Smoke mod up to 11 so I had to start making my chimneys actually functional rather than purely decorative and design some smoke routing channels.

My strategic reserve of Bronze is looking good
Though I just did the math and this isn't even close enough for a single suit of plate armor... I've never made any armor in this game so far to be fair so maybe it's better to just start casting some scales instead.
>>563617095
I see.
My dream would be to have a fully lit long ass road snaking through the wilderness, but I'm not sure if I would realistically be able to afford the resources for that.
>>563618596
Looks very cool, though admittedly a bit to "fantasy" for my taste I think. I see people making these huge-ass windmill towers and I get why from a gameplay perspective, but I think I'll prefer a more "realistic" windmill design when I finally get that far in the game.
>>563619159
>I might finally have enough flax to keep my clothes repaired since it's been a low priority.
It's honestly crazy how big of a resource drain that is, especially in the early game.
Though I've only recently noticed that you actually spawn in with your clothes in pretty bad condition, I never saw that and just assumed they break that quickly, maybe it's less bad when you can actually get them to 100%

Also I just have to say how cool I looks to see the road I've built snake all the way down into the valley.

protip, just make leather armor
not the jerkin that goes underneath chain but proper leather armor
it's literally the best armor in the game
no penalties, cheap to maintain
plate is a meme since the way protection works you're not getting much more actual damage reduction from it than you would from same tier chain armor
high tier mobs will still hit you for significant damage
it's not worth of because the penalties are fucking massive
sprinting in plate is comparable to normal walking
mobility is your best defense and offense
it's a bit more manageable for blackguards tho

It's not like I'm finding a 50/50 and just clicking one. I find a spot that can only be a mine or not a mine, treat it like one of them and see if it leads to a contradiction, if yes, then I know it's the opposite.
But anyway, here's an example where I can't find anywhere to start besides just making an assumption and seeing if it's wrong.

Risk of Rain Returns would be good if not for the fact that it's just 20 minutes of 0 IQ gameplay into an extreme difficulty spike for the final boss. It feels like pic related except 1000 layers. Anyway, despite 2 being pure slop, it easily mogs.

It's funny, as someone who does not like idle games at all Path of Achra has just enough build diversity and character-building (and difficulty) that I don't consider it a boring idle game. It's very close to something like an autobattler, very relaxed, with a lot of the lore and writing/graphic design doing a heavy lifting.

I mean I still want some plate armor out of iron or steel, just for the prestige, but maybe you're right.

The game is pretty chill overall. You get used to the brakes yeeting your loot pretty quick. Looks like you've already got the MPU and a couple THICCs. Shouldn't be too much of a bother if you manage it properly. Lifepods will clog your processor, so there is a trade off. There's a good bunch of different ships and you can easily have a few different loadouts on them for various focus. Mining, salvage, bounty hunting, or evenracingif you find them fellas out there. Depending on how blind you're going into it, there are a good deal of interesting finds out there as well. Good luck, ringa.

If you're considering Lorn's Lure, be warned: the movement feels like ass and it barely uses the climbing mechanic that got everyone's attention. It somehow makes the kind of movement you use to break out of a Source map feel boring and lame, and shunts you along a bunch of horrendously linear levels. The payoff isn't even good either, as you just geta nihilistic ending that outright tells you the entire thing was a waste of time.

And I always wondered, how the hell do you even fuck up this hard.
But now I work at a software development company and I 100% understand how, if everyone from the team lead up has has absolutely no idea how to do their job and can't admit it.
Good thing I don't really care about the outcome of the project, beyond getting paid and not getting forced into doing another project I would like even less.

Well that and greed. From what I understand the middle management guy responsible for this mess gets paid a juicy bonus based on how many projects his teams are involved in. So it's in his financial interest to report how everything is going great to the top so the company keeps sinking money into it.
And I wouldn't be surprised if somewhere along the way this also means that marketing is promising the moon to customers.
I'd be long gone from there, if it wasn't so hard for me to find another job. Plus they are very chill about work hours and so on so those are about the only things still keeping me there.

Yeah, dedicated time commitment is the biggest issue.
In a game like Minecraft, Terraria etc it's easy to just put a server up and let anyone join whenever they want and only care about the whole group being there for big events.
But VS has so many time sensitive processes I'd imagine you would have to set aside dedicated time slots for a session so the server doesn't just run 24/7 and your food spoils or crops die, just because you didn't have time to hop on for a few days.

OG had been going for years until it died last year due to mod corruption. It was restarted as pOG (plebian OG) with a lighter mod load for longevity.
Weekend serb as the name implies only goes for single weekends, heavily modded with a different theme each time.
If you like horses /mlp/ has it's own server, but I don't know much about it other than it has horse player models.

Yes, they are independent. But I read something that you can move from map to map using one of those antigravity ships.

Zero Escape The Nonary games was the funniest shit I've played for all the wrong reasons.
I don't like VNs at all and a buddy told me that if I'll ever change my mind on the, this might be one of the good ones. And he was right there is some really cool stuff in it on a meta level.
But it's hidden under so many layers of anime bullshit and shitty dialogue that I can't in good faith recommend it to anyone.

I found Warm Snow gameplay too shallow and repetitive, the different "weapons" or whatever it was didn't substantially change how you approach and play the game, and each run is too long for the shallow gameplay. I rage quit after getting hit by an 1-hit KO attack from what I assume was the final boss, IIRC it's not properly hinted at, he can use at any point and if you're out of dashes it's GG run with no counterplay.
Blazblue Entropy Effect is alright, not great but I was plenty satisfied with it. Somewhat shallow gameplay but runs are short and the characters play a lot different from each other, and there are plenty of characters, but a lot of DLC also.
Eastern Exorcist is kinda weak. Got my money's worth out of it, but that's all I can say about it. Looking at time as a resource, definitely not worth playing.
Devil Slayer Raksasi is the one I enjoyed the most and looking up for how the sequel will turn out. The biggest flaw of the game is that early game you don't have enough defensive resource (stamina and stamina regen), so you're forced to play slow until you get enough stamina/regen to be allowed some level of aggressive playstyle, which takes about half the run. This only becomes an issue after you've mastered the 1st half of the game, anyway. Good playstyle variety and good amount of bosses and regular enemies, good combat flow after you have enough stamina/regen.
Afterimage is quite good. Has balance issues in that you become too strong and make the game too easy and a bunch of filler items, but the combat was nice and bosses' patterns were better than most metroidvanias, if not all of them, definitely the highlight of the game for me, alongside content size, 40 hours to beat. You can always use the boss re-fight option to fight bosses at a set level and with a specific set of available equipment at your disposal.
TL;DR Chinese are hit or miss, but doesn't seem to have any mindblowing hit. Korean seems to be way better.

Yes. And it seems you need to bring tribesmen/pets with you or the bosses will whoop your ass.
Also I changed the maximum number of tribesmen that can follow you in combat to 100. So it will be fun.

I dream of one day doing a 40k tabletop session ever since I've read the guardmens only pasta, it just look and feel like a good time but im a foreveralone fag and the few peoples who I know could play it seriously kind of drifted away after I fudged a dnd session due to sickness, and I feel like they misinterpreted my attempt at introducing immoral stuff in the campaign (for story reason and give them hints their current boss was a p.o.s.) as me shoehorning my interests in, so I suspect a 40k setting would be too grim for their tastes, because the stuff I introduced were very mild compared to whst happens on the daily in 40k.
I still feel annoyed about it, went so far making set pieces in tabletop simulator only for it to never be used for anything...

Using tribesmen is HUGE. They are a really great force multipliers.
But you have to manually equip them armor, weapons, food, water, medicines and give them time off to sleep and restore morale.
On the other hand, they level up their stats and wapons.

Id say mechanicus isnt really comparable to xcom, as its far more about ressources management to stay viable as long as possible as the excursions are effectively multiple fights in a row, and the firing isnt entirely reliant on rng as hits are effectively insured both for you and the enemy. Like in xcom you always try to maximize your advantage because you will get fucked by the rng, while in mechanicus you may want to put yourself in a bad position to get a hit you know will kill the given enemy, which would be suicide in xcom.

In theory you are suppose to run with 2-3 tribemen while on a hunt, and with 3-10 when getting your village attacked.
I'm tweaking the numbers right now to up them up. After all it seems this game was meant for multiplayer, either PvP or PvE. I'm going to see how much my PC can handle without melting.

Never liked the metro series, its effectively a onrail shooter with how linear it is, pun unintended. Also exodus went full retard trying to make it an action shooter in parts which just clash too much with the intended stealthy gameplay, and what the fuck were the dev thinking shoehorning boss battles in it? Those 2 bear fights were awful from start to end, and feel like they were barely play tested before being put in production.

>why are modern games so badly coded?
Because they can afford to.
The more powerful machines are, the more you can do utter shit and keep the program working. This in turn reduces development time and thus, cost.
Smartphones are the area in which this is most evident. Consumers buy absolute beasts which they use to basically do the same shit we did 15 years ago. They look at videos and images, they write texts, and they take photos. Yet the system becomes to fucking cluttered in some few years that they have to buy *another* phone in order to do the same shit.
Consumers are increasingly subsidizing development, basically.

Oh shit, I've finally figured it out.
I love how you can just read through the zine and stumble on a tiny bit of bonus information that changes your approach. I wasn't sure how I'm supposed to distinguish between a number and text in the file, until I found out that using < and > on different datatypes will always return 0
Still need to iron out some kinks, keeping remote communication in sync is a bit of a bitch. I thought I could be cheeky and just remove all the region codes, but I think replacing them actually works better.

Yeah custom ROMs in general are way, way better at this. Normies sometimes need to pay with their phone and that's a dealbreaker but that's about it, the only reason I don't recommend everybody around me to do such thing is because I know that turns me into assistance by default and I can't be arsed, but I got my parents to use crDroid and lineage and they both work like a charm.

Yeah, I finally got it! So as I said in >>563857252 what had me stumped was I had no clue how to check if the data I'm about to copy to the new file is actual data or a region code. Until I've reread the zine and found that you can TEST text and it will always return 0 if it's comparing text to a number.
From there it was just remembering some basics and dealing with a few bugs.
I'm sure there is some possible optimization here, my solution has below average activity and above average size and cycles, which is pretty common for me, because I just really enjoy to work with REPL and MODE to have my EXAs move as a little as possible, but it comes at the price of more complex code.

God this game is fun.
Especially I love how most problems allow for quite diverse approaches. Here I just flood the network with pairs of EXAs, each searching for one of the two hosts I need.
I bet there are lots of fun ways to optimize this with fewer EXAs, if each of them has a copy of the file with the names or maybe some fun stuff with the M register, where they receive the names of the hosts they are looking for remotely.

Little cellar under the house with an adjacent smaller cellar with two barrels for some liquor. Coming along nicely, soon I can transfer some supplies here and start building that boat.
>>563888460
(un?)luckily I don't have an elk yet.
At first I wanted it for the smiting rework and kept delaying building a smithy just for the update, but decided it's silly to arbitrarily gimp myself like that now it's mainly the crowbar. And even then I think I'll start very carefully decorating some stuff with beams as is and hoping I don't mess up.
Also I guess I'm also waiting on exploring, just so I don't generate any more chunks before the new update.
>>
>>563893343
>0.34x
The reason the perish timers on that cellar are crap is the wooden floor. Ideally cellars should have all of their encasing blocks made out of soil, stone or ceramic. Including any entrances. Full blocks. Chiseled ones don't insulate well.
Beams aren't black magic, the crowbar is fairly pointless unless you're building entire custom sloped roofs out of beams. Or otherwise adding a ton of beams to chiseled blocks.
>>
>>563895160
hadn't even paid attention to that yet. I totally get that programming the room/cellar math to work for all sorts of rooms players will end up building isn't easy, but it still sucks a little. This room is completely underground and the plank are just to make the floor more cozy and realistically shouldn't affect the insulation. I think in the end I'll choose form over function, since I don't expect to store food in this particular place for more than half a year max.
>Chiseled ones don't insulate well
luckily I found a mod that makes chiseled blocks act as full blocks in terms of insulation, just because it was too restricting for some of my builds
>unless you're building entire custom sloped roofs out of beams
that's exactly what I plan to do

Here's this. https://siralimultimate.wiki.gg/wiki/Combat
There are a few mechanics the game doesn't explain like the soft 15 actions per monster per turn thing. Other than that it does a pretty good job of explaining everything.

For sure. It actually has so much content that the wikis still are missing a lot of info.
>turn 0
>all creatures must attack the Aspect in the middle
>on dodge the aspect casts Benediction
>the monsters on his left and right have the ability that makes them cast the same spell that an adjacent monster casts
>left minion has a chance to minus all enemy intelligence when it casts a spell
>right has a chance to debuff all enemies when it casts a spell
>Spirit gives all my monsters +25% defense twice when they are haled
>Another Spirt damages the enemy for half of all my heals
>Another Spirit double rolls a 1/10 to move a friendly monster to the top of the turn order when they are healed
>My heals scale up with my defense because the gem is socketed with % potency based on defense
>also I'm immune to debuffs cuz of the not-Eevee's ability
>tl;dr I have 30 buffs, the enemy has like 7 debuffs + nerfed INT, and I'm AoE killing things by healing, stacking barrier, and defense all while also intermittently skipping the enemy's turn entirely
Pretty sure this broken shit is ready for what ever the postgame has in store for me.

i want to make my own dad-core game
either a fantasy game where you play as a knight protecting a young princess
or a lewd turn based game where you play as an old hag using a teenage boy like a pokemon
