I just played CE for the first time in 20 years after seeing that the collection thing was on sale on steam. god damn does the game go to shit after guilty spark. it's like the level design talent disappeared completely, literally just spamming shitloads of enemies around every corner. the opening of two betrayals with the gigantic open room that has no cover is the most egregious shit in the game. it's such a crazy contrast because the first half of the game is brilliant. doesn't help that the flood are miserable enemies to fight. did they run out of budget or something? now I see why I never played those levels as a kid lmao.

I beat it after a few tries, it's just an example of really bad level design. it's like the game falls apart in the second half, the carefully constructed arenas and encounters are replaced with giant open spaces packed with a million enemies. I have to think they ran out of time or money or something, really smells like that kind of situation.

Two Betrayals is the 2nd best mission in the game (Right behind Assault on the Control Room). It's the first time you get to play CE with nearly the entire sandbox available. (All the weapons, vehicles, enemies/allies) Especially when it opens up into that big nighttime battlefield, you can get such an adrenaline rush trying to race to the banshee before everything blasts you, and then you watch the two armies fight each other from high above. Yeah, I don't like to fight the Flood 1v1 either, but having them in a 3-way battle with the UNSC and Covenant is the ideal situation to have them in.

I just finished playing halo 2 for the first time in 20 years and I can say with confidence that the marines/elites are completely useless even when you give them beam rifles or other powerful weapons. The AI is just too rudimentary. They regularly run into fights they are guaranteed to lose, and even when you babysit them so they don't commit suicide by enemy they still barely accomplish anything because they shoot into walls and props and shit constantly.
When I played I think it's quarantine zone when you get the 4 elites, I gave them all blue sentinel beams and they still might as well not have been there at all. they maybe killed a handful of flood and sentinels. And that's just on heroic. There are a few times when you can get good use out of a rocket launcher on a marine but that's about it.

That's true, but Elite AIs have dogshit firing patterns with it. They just suck at using it.

That's not true. Elites will follow you to the end of the level if you let them, but you might need to push them or walk back and forth between rooms to trigger their next waypoint. But do take note that their AI tend to just stop working right before the gondola ride (they stop firing and they just move to the next objective). Marines on Gravemind are fine, but the last grav lift bridge can fuck with their pathing pretty badly however.

There’s not a single person, normie or halofag, that is excited or impressed by the halo CEmake. No one is gonna buy this game. At most people with a passing interest in halo will temporarily sub to game ass to play it once through and then never bother with it again. Its gameplay isn’t new. It’s just halo infinite against reach AI. It’s an ugly mosh mash of reused assets. It’s the same story and levels we’ve played through time and time again. I can not believe there isn’t a single person at halo studios with the common sense to just cancel this crappy project. It will do more harm than good to the halo name, if that’s even possible at this stage.

Would it be better if people were excited? Not sure. Feels natural that people aren't. It's the second remake of a game (and the reputation of the IP and its owners is low).

Odds are that just like with Infinite, the people with common sense aren't in charge and often ignored. Making Forerunner stuff look even a bit more like Forerunner stuff again? Not treating the Halo cosmetic scene like Fortnite's?
Both things devs had to actually try and convince people to do, when it shouldn't been common sense. The former succeeded to an extent, the latter couldn't say the same. It's odd that Microsoft isn't finding someone willing to study up on Halo prior to 343 and strike that balance of using existing design language on new campaign/multiplayer spaces.
The ego involved with wanting to twist Halo to your own vision is so weird, when by default there is stuff that has to be all-new. There's ample room to incorporate new, original ideas because no game will be 1:1 with the last.
