What do you do after you have a base. Do you go out and explore the entire map and bring things back to the base or make more bases somewhere else? I can't figure out if its worth hauling things back and forth.

Getting boosted to level 2+ mechanics from just watching a single VHS helps a lot with keeping cars maintained, same goes for most skills.
It's always the first two levels that are the most mind numbingly hard to obtain.
They need to add a simple 'practice X skill' recipe that eats resources and outputs nothing.

still, i'd at least move something in front of any unfortunate entry points, or like, in a situation like that where the window is by the stairs, a tv/couch/whatever at the bottom and top of the stairs. I'd recommend breaking some of the stairs instead so they can't climb up to you, but you dont have a hammer so rip
