Play how like and pull what you want, obviously.
That said, meta would be saving for Kita banner. The card is your top priority. You could skip if you have LB2 already, but at LB1 you need more so the banner is perfect. Hopefully you still have a use for SR pulls as well
You could save your uncap items until after you've pulled on Kita rerun, incase something happens like you get to LB3 after 180 pulls - in which case you can finish the spark to MLB, without "wasting" your item, which could then go to Creek.
Riko would only be pulled on if you already got Kita but you do get free pulls here anyway so all is not lost.

At 1LB you're better off banking 200 pulls to roll on Kita banner, hold the ticket until after you roll. Worst case scenario you end up 2LB, then you half anni selector + anni selector to MLB. But statistically you should get 2 dupes on the banner at minimum, so half anni selector will get you to MLB. Kita is worthless at 2LB or lower.
You could pull to pity on Riko but Rice Shower is ass until 3LB and MLB R Riko is 90% of 2LB SSR Riko so you're only here to fill out SRs.

We're getting free 10x rolls for that banner, we still don't know how many but if you get really lucky you might be able to MLB the R card which is equal to the SSR at 1LB, the smart thing would be to save in case we get something crazy like 100 rolls (unlikely) and just complete the spark.

At 1 LB it would be better to roll on the Kitasan banner and save the SSR selector in case you don't manage to MLB her, they also give an SSR unlocking stone at Anniversary (around february)

lots of important rolls coming up with riko, kitasan, christmas oguri and the mega banner but that seems to be the last "important" piece for F2P players for a couple of months or even years

How do sparks work? I can't get a 2* stamina spark to save my life

Blue sparks are a random (1/5) roll between the 5 stats and then a roll for the number of stars depending on the number
Less than 600 is 90% 1* and 10% 2*
600-1100 is 50% 1* 45% 2* and 5% 3*
1100+ is 20% 1* 70% 2* and 10% 3*
so ideally you want to get at least 1100 stamina on your runs

new event modifier rework was well needed desu, career mode even with everything on skip takes too long to do more than one run a day

I'm getting a bit fed up with Unity careers
There's too many interruptions and messages that slow it down. I don't need have a popup telling me there's 10 turns until the Unity Cup. I know, it's on the screen at all times. I don't need each training upgrade message to appear one by one, along with stat ups one by one. There are too many screens to skip through during Unity cup as well
I did enjoy the change in meta, taking multiple wit cards during Virgo training, but it was a lot more flexible there. Training for long races now, I'm really feeling the lack of stats from normal training. Double rainbow for 30spe is brutal. I've got usable results, but none are up to my standard yet. And besides that, going 1050 stam with 2 gold recovery, as soon as you reach the first downhill and Go Home doesn't activate, your race is bricked regardless of the rest of your stats. Other options are Cooldown and BoFA which can trigger too early or too late (or not at all) to matter
I have decent cards and my own parents so it must be horrendous for those having to rely on guest parents and missing key cards
I would always see careers through in URA, but I've abandoned plenty in Unity when things like Riko rec event doesn't start before new year, losing first cup race despite all the circles etc, just to get back onto a fresh start rather than sit through the drag of Unity on a dud
I'm getting many runs as well where Maestro event doesn't finish
I'll still play, but I think I might swap to some URA parent runs or TT builds for non-long distances for a few days until the frustration fades

Once you complete a career, you get your trainee as a 'Veteran' who can then be submitted in the PVP modes, where you see whose uma win the races. So the gameplay loop is 'see where your current veterans fail' and 'go through career mode to build new veterans'

My theory is that Global is part of their core strategy going forward because they want to create a situating where American Owners are not only willing to license their horses, but actually want their horses in umamusume for promotion reasons. It's the same conclusion I later came to. Saw a lot of people gushing over SC and I like the art so went a bit crazy for it. But then found it's just for a skill. Princess also a bit of a disappointment.
Sucks to wait since I'm bored now and likely won't be at the end of the month. But rolling for MLB Kita and Christmas Oguri seems to be the play.
I'll just casually mess around with this account to learn the ropes until then.

You don't really get much from getting dupes of her from what I can tell, it's just one good skill. With Kita I saw a graph showing her strength skyrocketing at LB and speed is the most important stat. SC is good but at least for early game I think I can manage without, just nice to have.

Kitasan is much better than SC, that's true. It's more that Swinging Maestro is the best stam skill (but not all racers need tons of stamina)

LB and levelling the cards gets you better bonuses from the card. IMO the most important one is at Lv.45, which is attainable at 3LB (starting friendship) as it helps you get to Friendship Training quicker

Worrying about the meta is mostly if you want to get into the PvP, I have neither creek or kitasan and I can do decently well in the B limit leagues of Champions Meet

I'm kind of split on caring about the meta or not.
I made an account earlier with no rerolls were I had no premium Umas and my best supports were Tazuna and Vodka. And I was actually having way better results on careers and much more fun overall than with my current more meta account. A lot of it is just me being a noob, but it did feel like I was getting more out of those supports than blindly following the tier list.

However since this is the one time I can have infinite carats, and there is an op support I should LB and a busted Uma releasing soon I figure it was worth waiting a couple of weeks now instead of risking in the future saving for months to try and slowly get the same results. Just in case I like the pvp which I haven't tried yet.

So after reading Manhattan Café's career story, probably the funniest part and the part that has the biggest implications for the world building/ culture of Umamusume is...

Nobody is even slightly incredulous or skeptical of the fact that Manhattan Café can see or interact with spirits. They think her behavior is strange, sure, and they think her talent is unusual, but once they learn what is going on, they just roll with it. Nobody thinks she's psychotic, or treats her like she's psychotic.

Tachyon is almost set up to offer a materialist/ scientific counter-perspective, but that dynamic never materializes. The probing and skepticism Tachyon offers takes for granted that the phenomena affecting Manhattan Café are real, and the purpose of the questions is to make Tachyon's understanding of those phenomena more precise, so she can use them to her own ends.

It's a huge departure from/ subversion of the tropes that normally surround "i see dead people" characters, and the game pulls it off so well you barely notice. And like, maybe you'd think that would be more common in settings where magic is clearly real and has tangible effects on the lives of the characters, but it seems like most of the time, the instinct is to turn the characters around the "i see dead people" character into materialist atheists the minute the topic comes up, and shroud them in a veil of disbelief until they are confronted with utterly irrefutable evidence of the supernatural. Which is dumb, and lazy writing, so I am very happy that Cygames didn't take things that direction with Manhattan Café's career.

Cafe has to be my favorite story so far, she is a complex character that gets slowly unraveled through her career, my favorite part was the uncertainty of the motives of her friend which gets even darker in the summer event, it's also interesting that all of her "rivals" are progeny of sunday silence except doto and opera who have an abrupt reaction to her before and after the arima kinen, the reaction Tachyon had after the Takarakuza Kinen was a very interesting point
she enjoys being alone but isn't outright apathetic (she even mentions yukino bijin baking cooking for her in one of dialogues) and is actually considerate to others, she is gloomy but not depressive or indifferent, very fun career.

I got tantalizingly close to A finals this time, winning two races and losing the third by a neck or so at least twice. Probably my best CM so far.

Also I saw at least two races with no fronts at all despite all the Suzuka memes.

New Oguri is a real pain to train, you don't even have access to her skill the whole run, and you need at least 800 wits for the recovery skills to trigger reliably too.

Wait it was at 140 which is 21k in, didn't open the picture to double check. Anyway until i got that roll, you get it. That wasn't the "something is wrong" roll it was the rolls around 27k where i got an opera dupe and a haru haru that i got suspicious.
