They should've added a clearer backstory for Suichong if they want reader to feel any connection with him. Such as making him hideously ugly and being associated with man-eating monster made him target for abuse, ostracization. Add an event story chapter showing him as a kid being beaten up and chased away from his home for being born that race is enough for people to eat it up.

I don't think it's implied Suichong is anything other than a deity. In fact, even his very first story outright states that "a deep-seated fear of fire clashes with his divinity". Even if you ignore that, he very much is a God by all the standards in setting at this point and has a mindset distinctly different from the people around him. He fears and shuns the modern world in ways that Covetous Wolf and Hakui, who make themselves active parts of it, do not. He wouldn't have thought to simply send a letter or actively look for the kid he met 20 years ago because 1) he had no idea where he was and 2) he already assumed things would be better if they kept their distance regardless.

Eh, it's a bit of both. Being pretty goes a bit far, but they'll also give a character shit even if they're a furry if they fall into levels of depravity that are considered no-nos for the terminally online. Just look at how Rutenix's mere existence has made the game verboten in a lot of internet spaces and makes you into the target of everyone's ire if you even mention it in those places.

Covetous Wolf not looking hot definitely contributes, but him being a massive 'rape-coded' character is a factor to consider as well.

It does, yes. But it also doesn't say that this makes his divinity any less. In fact, we have no idea whether he's divine BECAUSE of his bloodline or if it's an entirely separate aspect of himself or how he became divine if so. Anon, Hakui is so weakened and diminished that people flat out don't recognize him as a god and he's treated as a varmint that has to be shooed away even during the day of his own dedicated celebration. Covetous Wolf prefers walking around as an ordinary guy and doesn't bother revealing his true nature unless someone is there to really spoil his fun, and he can be convicned to just leave an area if someone as dominant as Boss Ren is around since he doesn't like those types of men.

Gods in this setting, whilst powerful, are also fucking dorks.

I'm pretty new to gacha games, and there's something I'm wondering about. I just got Suichong after 100+ pulls, but now I would need materials from duplicates to evolve him. Is pulling more the only way to get those? Are the dupes likelier to appear than the initial unlock of the character?

You could get those from dupes but also from the bonus points shop in the market tab and you can also get universal dupes from many sources like events, weekly mission and the challenge trials

Pulling is the main and fastest method to get them, though you can also gain character shards from the essence shop and use generic gold shards to upgrade him.
I would only use the generic gold shards for limiteds or characters you really like, so suichong is already a good candidate for them.
