I miss third versions, bros
I wish they would bring them back, and instead of the DLC we have been getting, they would sell downloadable "upgrade packs" that could release alongside the third version that upgrade your existing game copy and save

Iwata had the right idea asking them to make BW2 a sequel instead of another generic third version. It was still mostly the same but with enough changes to make it a distinct experience to play through again

GS(HGSS) and B2W2 are the right way to pad released between generations.
I would love a Ruby and Saphire sequel with May and Brendan being the profesor and the champion(depending the version you choose they are one or another)

Why have they never lived up to the richness of bw2 again. Like or hate the content there was a shitload of it. Teased the concept of difficulty levels only to never try again. Memory link was a great addition and could be implemented far better on the switch compared to the two console requirement of the original, variety of battle formats, trade negotiations, etc

Third versions were kind of a greedy business practice even in the best of times, and you could argue they were inexcusable when the series moved to the DS, which was capable of doing DLC (the Ranger games and Conquest literally had it). I think Platinum can get a pass because of how horrible DP's engine was and B2W2 at least tried to be a sequel rather than an expansion pack for the same game. Of course, the cynical and likely more true explanation is that the infrastructure wasn't in place to charge money for the DLC yet on the DS so they didn't bother.
Certainly by the 3DS, third versions were just an outright scam. And Game Freak is so shit now that it's not like a third version would even fix anything, just look at how much of a lie "Ultra Changes" turned out to be.

DLC is actually worse than third versions, because you have to buy the base game first in order to play rather than skip the base games and wait to buy the improved version. I think that's ultimately why they stopped doing traditional third versions. Too many people were catching on to the pattern and realizing there's no reason to buy the first pair of games.

Didn't happen, you disingenuous little cunt. Why would he react in surprise at something he "asked Game Freak to do"?
