If this game had SuperMetroid-like game design it would have been the ultimate masterpiece

I agree. Ecco had amazing presentation.

How bad is the remake gonna ruin it?
>>
>>12488573
It doesn't need any of that. Ecco is awesome as is.
>>
>>12488579
easy to have good presentation when you steal art

That's most Japanese media

Ecco is hung aryan.
>>
>>12488652
Ecco was illustrated by a peruvian-american fantasy artist, extremely funny to compare him to a paleoartist just because they both incorporate realistic elements in their work
>>
>>12488672
Vallejo drew the cover, he was not involved with the art of the game itself
>>
>>12488679
This and Burian's art which was used extensively for most of of the prehistoric level graphics was licensed from his estate, not just randomly stolen.

Hung is putting it mildly. Having a giant prehensile cock specially made for raping is good times for all.
>>
then it wouldn't be the same game would it

retarted thread
>>
>>12488743
He probably assumes the game is too hard and so would be made more palatable if you could collect health power ups and powers that trivialize the challenges. As is you already gain new powers for doing the dolphin saving sub quests which are handy but not necessary.
>>
ecco2kkaaayyyy play em like pokemon gooo

>Watch movie with prettier actors instead of ugly actors

Truly a mystery. Senses, what are they for? We should play all games in wireframe mode.
>>
>>12488874
I wouldn't even call Ecco that impressive looking for a Genesis game, it's just well made. Tides of Time looks a lot better but isn't as good of a game overall.
>>
>>12488573
agree, if it was a search action game they would have at least omitted that terrible autoscroller level in the last part
>>
>>12488741
>Hung is putting it mildly. Having a giant prehensile cock specially made for raping is good times for all.

Way to miss the joke, retard. Ecco is a game made by Hungarians.

>Hungarian
>Hung aryan

Dolphin drowns too quick. its just bullshit cheap ass difficulty:the game. They intentionally fucked it so kids wouldnt beat it in one weekend rental and never buy it.
Otherwise Its beautiful and has fun mechanics...but they intentionally enshitified it.

If this game had SuperMetroid-like game design it wouldnt be fucking special/unique*
>>

>If this game had SuperMetroid-like game design it wouldnt be fucking special/unique*
But it would. Ecco's "specialness" is far from limited to it's level system
>>
>>12489124
If you don't play like a retard and use your sonar to check your surroundings you always have plenty of air available.
>>
>>12489157
still just a lame added difficuly gimmick
>>
>>12488874
based debbie does dallas enjoyer
>>
>>12489163
It's really not. Patience and precision under pressure is the basis of the game. You can't just rush blindly and brute force your way through, you can not like that but it doesn't make it bad. You are just making the assumption that because it's a game it should be easy.
>>
>>12489198
having to use sonar to probe your surroundings is a good feature, the problem is the instant off screen respawning enemies and then the game ending in a stupid one hit death autoscroller.
>>
>>12489219
If you do the side quests you get the ability to permakill a number of enemies at a time which while not necessary makes certain areas much more manageable. The Machine I agree on, it's the one bad part of the game, impossible until you memorize it and after that just a waste of time. That level aside though, I think it's fantastic.
>>
I always thought of Ecco as the Super Metroid of the megadrive. Alien/Giger-inspired, oppressive environments with a feeling of isolation, gaining abilities to progress. Sure it's not "open-world" but exploration and orientation is still very much part of each stage.
>>
>>12489229
I wouldn't mind The Machine so much if you weren't forced back into it if you died to the Vortex Queen. That was a little excessive, I feel. Made Vortex Queen way too stressful (especially since she can easily instakill you) because one mistake means it's back to the 5 minute autoscroller.
>>
>>12489630
I fully agree with that. The level would still be stupid, but at least not repetitive. I really wish they found a more interesting final challenge for the game.
>>
>>12488603
No wonder enemies besides the basic jellyfishes are so poorly animated. They had no other frames to trace
>>
>>12488573
This is not only fitting but also appropriate.

>>12489121
That's literally not what Hungarian means.
>>
>>12489124
Just like use cheats
>>
>>12491442
This. The Ecco cheat menu is pretty fun, you can make yourself invulnerable, or not need air but you can also teleport within a level and most fun change the music tempo which can really change the feel if the game. I wish more cheat menus were this robust. Do note though, if you don't like the game as is, you're probably not going to like it with infinite air either. But it's there to play with if you want.

gotta go fast

Weren't they working on a remake?

>How dare an early 90s game use art references for prehistoric species
>>
>>12493970
It's weird to see this now talked about like it's news. It used to be well known they had based the prehistoric levels on Burian's paintings. I knew about it from the Games Magazine article before even playing it as one of the highlights.

This is the GOAT soundtrack of all time and I'm glad more people are starting to realize it.

yikes and cringe
>>
>>12494308
All 5 of the classic Ecco soundtracks are GOAT tier desu, just in different ways.
>>
>>12493970
no doubt the non-preshistoric shit(the octopus, seahorse, crabs, etc) were all traced too but there are limitless encyclopedias with reference pics so its hard to find out exactly where they taken it from.
>>
>>12494286
I don't think his music suits the game anywhere near as well as the original.
>>
>>12494403
agreed. it's nice music just not for the game
>>
Is Ecco Jr. worth playing?
>>
>>12495827
If you don't like the regular games because they're too hard, maybe. But it really is made for kids of probably 10 and under.
>>
>>12489124
There's like three spots in the whole of the first game where drowning is an actual concern. Git gud
>>
>>12488594
never played this game, this is the first time I've seen *this* though, that is trippy
>>

I liked it, you can play as an orca, it's kinda neat.

It'd be cool if Ecco got an exoskeleton for one of the levels

>Hold Sonar for a map
It would have been nice for a dolphin or glyph to tell me that at the start
>>
>>12501781
It's in the manual. Also, work that grill
>>
>>12501781
Idiots like you are the reason every game starts with a painfully slow hand holding tutorial now.
>>
>>12488573
The obtuse nature of this game would have vastly been improved with a map. God tier presentation and intro which is why it is still talked about today. Too bad it gets bogged down by slippery controls and the fact that it is too fucking hard.
>>
>>12502654
>a map
anon...
>>
>>12501925
rom sets don't come with manuals, asshole
>>
>>12502654
Using your sonar to scope out the environment is a key part of the game. It's really not obtuse, most levels aren't even that big.
>>
>>12502668
It's not excuse, every old game has online faqs in which you can check controls and moves. You zoomers misuse the internet so much it's unreal, if it's not on discord it might as well not exist.
>>
>>12502668
If you didn't download a manual to go with the rom, or at least look up a faq, that's your own fault. Hell, you can discover the sonar by just mashing buttons and finding out

even Ecco Jr is a blast to play through

they should have had a cute little baby vortex in it to play as

It's really not, which is sad. It looks a lot nicer, but the levels aren't nearly as interesting and all the transformations are both kind of lame and boring to play as which combined with the teleporter ring levels makes large chunks of the game just feel gimmicky. It's also very inconsistent in difficulty, even on hard mode most of the levels are extremely easy compared to the first game. When it is hard it's stuff like Tubes of Medusa and the boss fights it's more annoying than the tight challenges of the first game. It's not terrible, but nowhere near as good overall.
