Thread to talk about all the retro Resident Evil/Biohazard games.
>thread question
Have you ever played the Survivor spin-off games? If so, what did you think of them?

thread to affirm that you code veronica is the worst trash ever made and re1 remake is an untouchable classic that, despite seeing a aide-by-side comparison proving it to be slower than the original game, is faster and just better ok don’t be a CONTRARIAN or if you are then you are part of a discord trying to influence the board against our will
>>
>>12503964
This but unironically, literally. It’s insane, and no wonder there is backlash of spamming RE threads in response.
You gatekeeping samefagging turbospergs need to fuck off and let people with a different opinion exist. The board is self-destructing as a result of the punishing lack of freedom to express an opinion. Calling people contrarian is not an argument in 2026. It’s meaningless.
We’re allowed to question games and discuss aspects you never thought of, and critique feom a position that is different than whatever you believe is established and consensus.

Anyone played this spin off? It's almost enjoyable with its weird story and setting but it got ruined by awful combat system
>>
>>12503954
Survivor 1 is cool as a spinoff game and a pretty big deal for me as a kid imo, getting to explore that early 3D in a first person perspective was cool at the time, even if its a bit silly when they keep spamming Tyrants at you when it took the entirety of the B scenario of RE2 just to kill one. Never played Survivor 2, the weird on rails Code Veronica adaptation and I dont know if I really have any desire to

Are we finally getting a general so we don't have to keep crying about re3?

Is there a ng+ in original 3? I find it so hard to not use a little map guide so I don't miss those invisible items in a random spot you need to press X on. I hate using it and just want to play the game but I hate missing shit even more. I just threw a lamp and blew up Nemesis in the restaurant with Carlos.

The battle system isn't the worst.
The worst is the fact that ammo is really scarce and bosses can easily eat up your stack. Enemies that drop ammo are constant, so my experience was learning which enemies drop ammo, restart the game, kill those and dodge the ones that don't. But they did something right with the mechanic that consists in baiting enemies by aiming at them, to make them move so you can dodge then them; but while making sure not to aim too long or you'll start a fight.
And then there is
>check room
>it's empty
>progress in the story
>that room now holds important key item or weapon
>there is no hint or any reason to go back to that room

Finally got lured by all the talk about RE9 and wanted to give the series a try. Started with RE1 Director's Cut Dual Shock Ver and absolutely loved it, I think it's one of my instant favorites. Really tense first playthrough, barely had enough supplies (totally missed the magnum), and killed Tyrant with 3 seconds left on the clock as Chris. Immediately booted it up again to play as Jill and beat it in half the time and felt like a god.
Can't wait to start up RE2 but have a feeling it'll have trouble living up, the mansion was just so fun.

I don't think instant 8 way 2d control really jells that well with resident evil's premise, makes sense that they had to incorporate the rpg battle system, navigating zombies in real time would be too easy if that was the extent of the gameplay.

I actually quite like both Survivor 1 and Dead Aim. They're short, fun little games and the former one actually has a lot of replayability. I'd say they're like 7/10s.

Started it up last night. Gorgeous looking, they really amped up their texture and animation work. Seems like this game might have more "cinematic" moments? First stretch was just running as Leon from cutscene to cutscene, but now I'm at the police department so I think it'll open up a bit.

playing the classic games again and one thing that really stands out to me is the pillar of navigating enemies in physical space I.E. using tank controls to steer around them. a lot of modern control schemes just don't really allow for that nuance, you either kill the enemies or you take damage or you're in a position to avoid them completely.

it sold well because the hype of 2 made a bunch of people buy it for the first time. originally, until 2 was coming and they made the director’s cut, re was not even a greatest hits release. there were not enough people who owned playstations when the first game hit. it took a little while and the announcement of 2. director’s cut offers an alternate game that many consider superior. it’s an excellent release, it was a bit less than full price and they gave you a coupon for 2.
>>
>>12512964
side note, this board could also refer to the dual shock version with shitty music as the greatest hits release. director’s cut has analogue control, it was one of the first games to use it when they dropped the early pre-dual shock controller with analogue thumb indents rather than sticks, and you could playvcolony wars and some others early before the vibration function was established.
>>
>>12512974
I fin d it baffling, tank control games are D-pad games, if you are using the stick for them you're a fake gamer. Jill and Chris move digitally, they don't have 360 degree movement or aiming so why bother??
>>
>>12512992
it was an experiment at the time which games it would work well for or not. you could still use the d-pad, but you had the option to calibrate the analogue control. early games that had both analogue and vibration were metal gear solid. colony wars was pre-vibration analogue. they added the extra function on the director’s cut of re1 to bring it along with what 2 and 3 would do - then when the director’s cut became a greatest hit and got that green label they changed the music along with adding vibration. at long last you had re1 with vibes on, if you ever gave a shit. i had the original release of the director’s cut but some dickhead friend of mine borrowed it and scratched it to hell in 1999.

actually cone to think of it, even 2 didn’t start as dual shock and got a re-release. there may be something else new on that version. there is a slighty different thing that happens using analogue (sorry for spelling it like a faggot, not sorry) but i can’t remember. pushing down on the stick maybe does a full turn. convenient.
>>
>>
what i played the og director’s cut on, analogue available st the time of its release but pre-dual shock. it’s as fat as the dual shock but those bumps are gone and the inner stick is smooth. they’re kibd of too wobbly too, the dual shock tightened the grip. don’t waste money on one of these. i bought it new and kept it. i used it recently, it’s inferior to the regular bumpy sticks. it kinda sucks, you slosh around. it feels slippy as hell. not good for racing or fighting games. just a weird artifact
