SNES has this, Turtles in Time, Batman Returns, Batman & Robin, Ninja Warriors, the two Power Rangers beat Em ups, Knights of the Round, King of Dragons, X-Men Mutant Apocalypse.
Genesis has SoR 2 and Bare Knuckle 3, Comix Zone, Golden Axe 2.

For me, SNES is much better for beat'em up games, though it doesn't have Streets of Rage 2 (imo the best retro game in the genre).

I also think that Final Fight Guy is superior to SoR, despite being a mediocre port.
I can't stand the choppy framerate of SoR 1 and I also think the gameplay is too simplistic (though decent enough).

Game Gear had 2 good Power Rangers beat em up too.

Maybe not the best but Turtles in Time has always been my favorite. I feel that even the better beat em ups tend to get repetitive fast, and it TiT manages to keep itself fresh with variety and perfect pacing.

For me, it's "The Ninjawarriors" for SFC/SNES:
-Great soundtrack
-All 3 selectable characters are fun to play with.
-A slow but engaging gameplay.
-Sprites and backgrounds with a lot of detail.
The remake is good but nothing compares to the original.

What makes AvP god tier imo is the freedom of movement through the different special moves, and how different each character feels. That makes it flat out more fun to play.
It's generally tough to compare Capcom's games since they never did the exact same thing with each beat'em up.
Knights of the Round has parries, Armored Warriors has modular powerups, Punisher has the gun mechanic and roll. Mystara games are a whole different beast. They're all really good.

This guy here gets it. I prefer the first one over either sequel, and it's not even a close call.

I will always have a soft spot for Double Dragon 1 arcade and Double Dragon 2 NES, but the real winner is Final Fight. X-men, Punisher, Simpsons and TMNT are close runner ups.

I played through most ofnthe games here mentioned once and only once.
I do go back for a playthrough of "revenge of death adder" maybe once a year though. Still my favorite of the genre only matched by (not retro) dragon crown pro.

Simpsons was always my favorite at the arcade.
At home I played River City Ransom a lot but that really isn't a pure beat 'em up I guess.
Its too bad more games weren't inspired by RCR until years later in lame "retro" style games
