>we made an incredibly boring, shallow, and repetitive beat em up
>except now we also included jarpiggy grinding crap so you can farm the same hundreds of trash mobs over and over to spam through hundreds of dialogue boxes to buy a bunch of random bullshit foods that very slowly increase your stats by some unknown, minuscule, incremental amount
>by the way every time you quit out, you must put in this 32-digit alphanumeric upper/lower password to continue
Wow, what a massive piece of shit. Unbelievable that people consider this one of the best games on the NES.

I can only imagine the type of braindead retard who enjoys the combination of the worst implementation imaginable of two of the worst genres.
Streets of Rage released a year later and is like 50x better than this turd.

>oh boy do I love killing 500 copy-pasted goons just to mash A thousands of times to sift through endless text boxes just to consume one of 100 random bullshit items that I have no idea what it does with nonsensical balance and pricing sold in the copy-pasted town that looks identical to the last one

No one mentioned the ZX Spectrum retard. Compare to even other games on the NES

I am sure Technos inspired "little fighter" series of games of the era. Wong, I'm paraphrasing, said he liked the Nintendo games where a bunch of little fighters were on the screen and you had to clear them out.

There were plenty of nobody's that made good games, in US and Asia. There were like 3 euros.

eh, the fact the series has endured long before and since while spawning many imitators means there really are people who like it over final fight based beltscrollers
if anything it's everything copying sor over final fight that vexes me more

Oh of course people like that, not denying that. I just think that, at least in the West, the online culture of the early 2000s helped grow and maintain its relevancy. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the people who worked on River City Girls were first exposed to the game thanks to said 2000s internet culture.

all the combo based belt action games besides fight n rage are more closely aligned to sor even if they end up converging onto avp design elements. even sor4 just became a combo and chain focused game with a slug 3 runtime

RCR really does suck, though it has a style and sense of humor that's very unique to it that lures in players into thinking they're playing a good game.
Nekketsu Fighting Legend is the only good RCR game from that Famicom era and I recommend it to even the biggest River City skeptics.
