These graphics are painful to look at, how do I get over it?

yeah i didn't really like it either. I just killed everyone I saw, no point sneaking around or bartering with people. most I did was hacking the cameras and even then it was kind of annoying. it's not like theres a system like the masquerade in vtmb, i don't think i ever got penalized for not killing civilians and the goons

maybe. but i'd wager people just forgot about the principles like classic themes and tropes. something like thief and how good it is has nothing to do with graphical and technical limitation but instead applying innovative systems along with a classic narrative trope. sure, you're right, and i enjoy pre-rendered backgrounds, but let's not pretend your comment isn't reductionist

It's not your fault zoomer. Your generation has been fried by tiktok and parents giving you ipads at 3. Yes old games will look dated sometimes, but its honestly something youll get used to and grow to appreciate when you factor in the limitations and times these games came out in. You have to learn to put your brain into that context when you see dated visuals.

deus ex got criticized for having meh graphics in 2000 so I don't really know what to tell you. the focus of the game was on interactivity and scale, really refined art assets just weren't in the cards for the project.

Drink more. Smoke more.
Suddenly the graphics are fine.
This applies to any game, or anything really.

You're supposed to play games from that era at 800x600, or 1024x748 at MOST
At modern resolution it's a given that you're gonna be seeing smeared ass textures and harsh polygons then you'll go on the internet and say "ew old 3d graphics are so crunchy"

Deus Ex has some of the highest quality character texture painting in the history of the medium, the same artist went on to do the textures for Daikatana and Quake 3. I still have no idea how he achieve the look.

I agree, that's why I exclusively play uncslop and stay far, FAR away from babcore games.

Here's an example from Daikatana (same texture artist) it's just a unique style that's like if someone took western comic book exaggeration, the hyper detailed maximization of Simon Bisley, and rendered it all by hand with ultra realistic digital painting... you get this really special look. It's a special blend of gritty masculinity and chunky industrial technology that made those early 2000's sci fi games stand out.

Deus Ex has an extremely uneven visual quality. It looks pretty good in some parts but puke inducing in the others. The animations are also terrible. I guess you could blame it on the scope and the primitive engine and tools used. They also only had 14 people working on a game this size. Plus they didn't have the experience Rockstar and Bethesda had in making open world games.
