>this game that runs at 5 FPS
it's stylistic. It's quite literally a movie game and its a technique arcade shmup devs used a lot to simulate a sort of bullet time or epic sequence where the screen would slow down and so you could appreciate the massive explosions. They would hone this technique in their next game, Perfect Dark, to much better results

i never played halo. i stopped playing fps games after medal of honor. i played medal of honor underground, thst was the last one. these games were over and done with for me with doom, for the most part. but i enjoyed goldeneye and moh. after that it’s like you just keep making the same dumb shit, how many fucking times do i wanna shoot in first person with different guns. the guns got too corny by halo. done. goldeneye was fun to play with 4 friends

>arguing First Person Shooters... on a console...
The only debate here is which is the least worse.
One run like shit, unplayable for FPS to be enjoyable.
The other has cancerous aspects, like health regeneration, floaty gameplay and auto-aim.

you’re sitting in front of a pc screen squinting with a gay little mousepad while me and 4 homies are on couches and comfy chairs with a massive tv playing license to kill mode having the time of our lives. it’s two different styles of play. one can enjoy both

It is in a completely different category to Halo where Halo should not even count as the same genre of game as GE (let's not get into naming them) for the simple reason that in GE you have the fantasy of shooting guys - like in any 80s or 90s action movie, and in Halo you just don't. In multiplayer I guess, but in the Halo campaign, do you even shoot a single guy? I don't think so. So, no point comparing Halo as it doesn't qualify as offering the same kind of experience as GE

>bubbut dude you get to splat some bugs
You can literally go into the garden and do that for free with infinite detail and infinite resolution and infinite frame rate without Halo. You can't kill fire full auto on any henchmen with an uni so they shake and jerk and fall down like in Cliffhanger or Robocop, in your back yard. You need a game and Goldeneye is that game. It actually offers something

depends on the game, honestly
some would limit the zone or range
Goldeneye and Perfect Dark does this, in fact
it's also generally something you can turn off
the game with the craziest amount of auto-aim I've played is actually Duke Nukem 64
you can set it to max, and essentially anything you see on screen will be hit
it made the shotgun using explosive shells the deadliest weapon in the game, as it was a hitscan weapon that would instantly gib you
we'd turn it on sometimes just for shits and giggles
on that note, I actually prefer what Eurocom did with Duke3D over the original, and usually play it on PC modded to be like the N64 version

meant to say Goldeneye and Perfect Dark limit the effectiveness of auto-aim as you ramp up the difficulty
on 00/Perfect Agent, it becomes narrow and deep, so it'll only twitch a bit from the center, really only making it useful for body shots at range
weapons with high precision like the PP7/Falcon, laser, golden gun, etc. can still easily score hits at range on any difficulty

GoldenEye was the first FPS I played more than a few minutes. One of the games I played split screen on most.
But it's just too janky, the hold trigger to aim up and down is workable, but not ideal. Halo is a better single and multiplayer game, especially on PC keyboard and mouse.in the early-mid 00. I agree the health recharging is too easy to cheese tho.
GoldenEye always turned into a shouting match ime and I was happy when everyone got their own screen.

Auto aim and hitscan are atrocious.
I like the bullet to be a physical object with hangtime, gravity, and wind forces.
FPS might be the only genre I prefer non-retro, and it's not a genre for consoles and controllers.
I still like both of these games, and have great memories with them, but once I playedPUBGmy appreciation for every other FPS went out the window.

many games greatly exaggerate the effects of each of those, though
under most practical ranges (300m or less), you won't see appreciable drop or deflection
so you're really just getting some half-assed "realism" that is anything but
I appreciate older hitscan games and more modern ones, although my favorite among the latter would be Bad Company 2

but like who wouldn't turn it off anyway since it fucks you. like whenever there are multiple guys, it doesn't know which guy is just about to fire and which is dallying. You do, so you try to turn but the fukin auto aim is stuck on the guy that's less immediate threat. This happens so frequently and enragingly that i dunno who the fuck would not switch it off. You also want to sweep a pack of guys with auto, either by running along or turning, so that each one is hit and staggered, which buys you the time to keep running or do whatever to them. It fucks this too
