I remember the Final Fantasy Anthology being especially bad for this, with about a 5-8 second transition screen on every encounter, though that could have been just an aesthetic choice instead of a way to hide loading screens. I didn't even notice them as a kid, not until I played the SNES versions.

I don't mind loading times. I like waiting in long lines, I'm fine with stoplights, I consider myself very patient in spite of my undiagnosed ADHD. It doesn't bother me at all.
