Mario is better as a JRPG not as a platformer its insane how Paper Mario Mario & Luigi games and Mario RPG are way better than the platformers games i wish the Mario movies were as good as the Mario JRPGs

Paper Mario is special because it let's players explore the world of mario with JRPG interactivity. It's also one of the few JRPG's to embrace an anachronistic fantasy world, the others being Earthbound and Undertale. It's a world with castles and kingdoms, celestial palaces and magical lands, but also computers and robots, as well as passenger trains and wizards, all wrapped up with an earnest worldbuilding of familiar Mario World characters... but suddenly given JRPG style lore. We get to know about Toad culture or Goomba lifestyle.
Nintendo's wisdom of bringing interactivity and mini-game like challenges to the turn based combat also elevates the whole thing even higher.
JRPG's live or die on two things: is the turn based combat system fun and is the world interesting to explore. There's something really fascinating and surprising about exploring Paper Mario worlds, always something unexpected or funny or strange around every corner... a feeling that is less prevalent in a typical fantasy JRPG with knights and kingdoms and familiar tropes.
