Anybody ever try overclocking their hardware or enabling emulator options to improve performance?

The SD2SNES (has a new name nowadays) has the option to overclock the SuperFX chip which increases Star Fox's framerate by like 5 frames or so. It makes the radio chatter cut off too early but otherwise the game feels a LOT more responsive and it doesn't eat inputs.

Also any music timing is out of sync, and they often timed it perfectly with running like a slideshow.

Ex: The "prepare for launch" emergency sequence at the very start, the voice is barely able to finish its line before the cutscene ends, where the non-overclocked version they only begin to boost away in their arwings a couple seconds after his line ends.

Just tried it with doom and it probably explains why that one autistic nintendo fan was sperging out about me playing it on a chinese sd2snes but was unable to point out why it mattered. Turns out I could have played it smoother all along! I didn't want to.

I used to hear a lot about N64 overclocking back in earlier speedrunning days. People who had smoother N64 gameplay than others were sometimes suspected of overclocking their N64 to gain an unfair advantage.
