>>12605472 I'll never understand why tendies overinflate the gamecube version. Link doesn't fit the game's aesthetic and he's only in the game because it's the nintendo console. There's a reason why bamco skipped him over for the HD online remaster.
>>12605472 Why did the PlayStation version have some old codger for the guest character instead of someone badass like Cloud Strife? Who the fuck wants to play as a pensioner?
>>12605583 Everybody wanted Cloud Strife, and Namco knew it because Cloud WAS originally meant to be the PS2 guest character (1:24:40 https://8-4.jp/podcasts/2017/10/06/8-4-play-1062017-steve-would-like-you-to-play-it-loud/). The deal fell through last minute.
The real robbery is that Xbox's guest character wasn't pic related. Dead or Alive eventually got a Halo guest character though.
>>12605773 >PS2 was supposed to get Cloud from FF7 >Square rejected it unless Sony was willing to have Cloud in all three versions >Bamco had to drag out Heihachi instead because Sony didn't want to use any of their own IPs either could've had Sir Dan, anyone from Wild Arms or Legend of Dragoon, even Spike from Ape Escape. I just don't understand why Sony wasn't willing to ball like Nintendo was.
>>12605906 >>12605924 They went with Spawn because Xbox didn't have an established enough character for a fighting game moveset so early in its life, and Todd was already brought into Soul Calibur 2 with his own character contribution in Necrid so it was a fast contract.
>>12606363 Namco turned into the epitome of soulless Jap corporatism letting spirited franchises just wallow away in mediocrity and low-effort revivals.
>>12606379 Nah Sony was just that powerful when it came to strongarming third parties. Never forget, when Capcom announced RE4 as a Gamecube exclusive Kaz Hirai invited a bunch of their executives over for a dinner party, then spent the next two hours calling them traitors and ungrateful to Sony for everything they "did" for Capcom on the PS1 until they agreed to give PS2 the game and more exclusives. No food was served.
>>12606124 You know I would say that Master Chief wasn't used because he's too scifi, but then they eventually have fucking Yoda and Vader. I get they probably don't want to whore Masterchief out too much, but he still felt a better choice than Spawn even back then. Like who cares about Spawn? Feels like such a product of its time.
>>12605472 I perma hate nintendo fans due their behaviour in online media. They made me hate and bore some games like soul calibur 2 and tales of symphonia. Nintendo fags are the worst of the wors not even ponies and furries are as bad as ninitendo fans and their parroting about 3 or games.
>>12608529 >Like who cares about Spawn? I care about Spawn zoomer. >>12606124 Necrid was a pretty cool character. I had no idea until your post that Todd worked on the character. So this is why Spawn is in the Xbox version. Makes sense.
>>12605472 Agreed. Soulcalibur 2 and 3 are the peak of 3D fighting games and fighting games as a whole, /vr/ or not. The later games are good and so are the OGs, but there's something unique about all versions of Soulcalibur 2 and also Soulcalibur 3 that hasn't been replicated in fighting games as a whole.
>>12605878 Spawn's cool, but they could've at least used Medieval Spawn to make him more appropriate for the game. I would say Angela too but of course there were legal problems with her.
>>12608529 Yoda, Starkiller and Vader fight primarily with swords while Master Chief mostly uses guns for combat. That's the reason Star Wars characters got into SC and Halo didn't. It's the same reason 2B and Geralt were in the most recent Soulcalibur game 8 fucking years ago. Damn.
>>12614125 True and true. The saving grace with Cassandra in 3 is that you can make her a cute redhead but she looks kinda off compared to her look in 2. She only gets fuglier as the series progressed. It's like a metaphor for the series as a whole after the SC games left the PS2 really.
it was cool to see this stoner and former CHAMPION play Voldo again. Everybody talks about the casual aspects of Soul Calibur 2, but Soul Calibur 2's competitive was maybe the best competitive 3d fighter ever made. Just super simple and well balanced with tons of meta when it came to guard impact.
>>12614398 Lots of people hopped to Soul Calibur 2 when Tekken 4 was a flop. Soul Calibur 2 was the last competitively viable SC game though, everything got ruined with 3.
>>12614396>>12614403 Have a big dinner, have two. This was the only fightan game the neighborhood would get together and play in my neck of the woods. Also the first one I actively practiced. What a fucking time to be alive. :')
Why is it that discussion of retro fighting games always comes down to "aw dude I 'member mashing against the AI, frame data and movesets are for tryhards"
>>12615330 Because that's what zoomers now instead of having friends or a life. I mostly played SC2 and 3 against college friends for the hell of it and I know I'm not the only one. Fighting games only work inside an arcade or with local multiplayer on consoles.
