This is where Nintendo gave up and stopped trying.
At least it did better than Jaguar or PC-FX

I hated that I couldn't see FMVs on N64 games back in the day, but now that digital videos aren't a novelty anymore, it's even kind of romantic how Nintendo stuck to carts, even if it was just to spite at Sony, it gave us the last major home console that used the format, and not having loading times is the best part.

Fun console. I have good memories of the multiplayer. It's very reliably built, too.

I used to go to a friend's house back in the late 90s/early 2000s with some other friends and we'd all play multiplayer GoldenEye, Smash Bros, Mario Party, et cetera on the one TV screen. It was nostalgic in that way. The weird thing is I was still in high school when the GameCube and Xbox were released and didn't even remember them existing at the time, that's how big PS2 and PC gaming already were here in Australia. Don't think I even saw an OG Xbox in real life until like 2017.

When I gained access to emulators I discovered so many gems and great games I had never heard of, even genres I had never seen, for many systems from my childhood. For the n64 there was jackshit though. Turns out I had played all of it back in the day just by going to friends' houses. Mario? Smash? Rare's games? What else is there?

The level of n64 hate is unreal. This is every single thread. More than half the posts are hate every time.
The Saturn doesn't even get a third of the hate this machine does.

Because very few people got to experience how shitty a Saturn is, almost everyone got at least one chance to play n64 and experience if for themselves.

its just kids who feel like they missed out because the console is always talked about highly trying to lower its repuitation so they feel better about not getting it.
sorry boys you had to be there, but hey, you've got fortnite so i guess we're even, right?

>it's even kind of romantic how Nintendo stuck to carts
I disagree heavily whenever I play a game like Ogre Battle 64 and the sound track sucks. Like not in an offensive kind of suck, but just they were limited on space and so the same few songs play over and over.
>>12615464
>haven't played it
Keep it that way. It's incomplete and pretty bad. I think I heard that the Japanese port finished some of the unfinished parts of the original US release? Either way, the US release is a perfect example of how bad n64 players were starved for RPGs after the SNES that they had to pretend games like Quest 64 and Aidyn Chronicles were good

You can't be serious, there's a Saturn hate thread up 24/7 for no reason.

Nintendo and Sony console warriors moved on to later systems. Sega has been dead for over twenty years so segafags have nothing to do except shit up retro game communities with irrelevant playground arguments. They're like those sad British men who never got over the Amiga losing to the PC.

It was just a big disappointment after the SNES.
I never even bought one after looking at its library, since I was always forced to wait a year or two to get a new console due to my parents. My buddy had one, I did enjoy Starfox 64 and OOT and Goldeneye and Killer Instinct, but they didn't justify the cost. No RPGs really killed it for me.
