It's no masterpiece, but it's the only acceptable sequel to Deus Ex. The Squeenix games are pure trash.

it really wasn't that bad, people just had higher expectations because of the first game
it's bette than the new ones for sure

This was the first RPG I played at 11.
I was blown away that I was free to break into apartments and pretend to be a gay chamber boy
>>
Played Deus Ex when it came out. I tried and failed to get IW working on modern PCs. Just too janky.

The Squeenix games were prequels.

Blatantly held back by consoles, though. Same with Thief: Deadly Shadows.

I honestly like it. It got a lot of hate back then understandably. But despite that I replayed it quite a few times over the Squeenix versions

it played like ass on a "modern" quad core laptop even with the fanpatch. might be memory leaks. also took me a while to figure out how to stop the mouse pointer from disappearing in the game.
i would rate it better if i play it back in the day with a WinXP machine maybe. and if it wasn't a Deus Ex game.

some other complaints:
-generic ammo. would be fine if the heavier weapons didn't eat up all your ammo in like 5 shots . had to kill most enema with my sword or grenades to save ammo.

-inventory limit. made the Strength biomod a must because iy increases your limited slots.

-stealthy playstyle is useless because not much places to hide with the level design ,which was mostly tunnels and corridors. almost a dungeon crawler but scifi. the cattleprod also got nerfed and uses up too much ammo.

-multiple endings. all feel forced since you can keep playing for 1 side in the previous hubs, but once you reach the last area, you can still switch sides anyway.
one particular ending was just dumb: "congrats on killing everyone! we will give you discount coupons!" inb5 banned for vague spoiler.

No, it really is awful garbage and the Jensen games are a million times better.

I've always said if the game wasn't called Deus Ex it would be as fondly remembered as VTMB is today. It really was great and had a lot of great moments, it just wasn't a good sequel.

Stealth assassin worked great, stealth ghost didn't. The illegal eye-drone biomod was extremely overpowered because you could just zap everybody with impunity from a vent. Or if you had the magrail and the vision mod you could hit everyone through walls.

I"m with Ross on this one. French Deus Ex'es are not Deus Ex - they're a separate universe coopting the Deus Ex name.

i did that but it uses up too much ammo.
also IIRC only the altfire shoots through walls. altfire shoot EMP-like shots which only work on bots, cyborgs and those suited up templars who take more than 1 shot to take down.

I never asked for this

They were just retvrning to the tradition of System Shock 2.

But ME2 is ten times as awful?
>>
>>3953094
I remember liking it more than the original when I played it as a little girl
>>
>>3954184
It may be controversial thing to say, but the way IW handled all possible endings of DX1 at the same time was really smart.
>>
>>3953094
If you treat like a cheap copy of Deus Ex it's actually fairly enjoyable. Liked the Omar and the final mission
>>
>>3953099
I like it, too. 2 is a mediocre game. Plenty of shortcuts the devs shouldn't've used.

Exactly

Are there good mods for it?
>>

>decides to get it for the same reasons it's hated
>gets project snowblind, too, not realizing it was originally the third Deus ex game

not really no? the fanpatch(VisibleUpgrade) does add optional graphical mods.
e.g. remove glowing eyes on the augmented and changing your default model to a clown.

Guess one can't have everything for free

>changing your default model to a clown
Sorry, but I don’t self-insert in my RPGs; unlike most of this board
>>

Critically underrated comment

I remember choosing fem Alex and seeing her eyes were just two jpegs w/o blinking.
The coffee shop / alliance skit was fun
the vtuber / AI shit was funny
the augments were fun
the Templar ending with the hanging ayy lmao and hanging frenchie was kino as fuck
>>
>>3954518
>fondly remembered as VTMB
Bloodlines had a prequel that wasn't buggy as fug. but Redemption was very linear with its plot progression.

that's just devs being anti-christ and making xtians look like murderhoboly KKK.
