I'm about to play Witcher 1 (Enhanced Edition) for the 1st time and I'm new to the series. Are there any super essential mods required or should I just enjoy the game raw?

No.

Yes.

hehe boobies and nudie cards

There's a combat rebalance mod I remember being popular for a short while back in the day. There's also an enhanced texture mod, and a mod which changes some aspects of the alchemy system.

And a handful erotic mods.

Not any that I know of. Just make sure you are playing uncensored version.
Combat is meh (but I liked it more than 2, that shit made me drop the series), but it has some soul. Especially rural areas.

I didn't know those existed. What did they do? Add extra sex cards?
>>
>>3956563
yeah i got so used with 1 combat that 2 felt like hot shit... Being insta killed by a back attack was retard as fuck
>>

it's jank, quests are fucking boring, characters talk like robots, but i still replay it every few years. there's something special about it. i couldn't stand witcher 2, it ruined everything about it.

No, it's ok I do have the boobies and all, it's uncensored. Kind of enjoying it so far, the atmosphere is dark and comfy. I love Geralt's dry humor and nigh constant irony and the writing and themes can at times be both corny and mature (to the point that the modern industry could never allow something similar today).

I like how the game unfolds as both an action and a detective story, gathering info about the plots around you and all before you act.

Yeah, I can see the junk sometimes. But the mood and atmosphere are grade A.

So far it's surpringly playable. I'm actually in a marathon with the series, having bought both W2 and W3 (with the DLC) which I tend to play after it.

>there's something special about it
for me it's actually feeling like you're a travelling monster slayer, all the little things that make you feel like a vagabond and a professional
>needing to read books or listen to babushkas to know how to extract monster trophies
>needing to constantly pick flowers and dissect monsters and making sure you have alcohol for potion ingredients instead of it being a one-off recipe that's soft locked for you because you can only get the mandatory 12 year old barrel aged aged dwarven cordial with peaty undertones in one shop on the other side of the map.
>potions are brewed individually so you have to maintain your inventory
>most potions have long effects so you can drink them before going into a dungeon or battle instead of being 30 seconds long and having geraldo stand there stupidly drinking a potion in the middle of a fight
>same goes for sharpening weapons and applying oils
>cat potion is actually good and required, instead of the shitty optional (since w2 dungeons aren't that dark) x-ray vision one
>needing to switch between appropriate sword styles based on the enemy you're fighting
>money actually being reasonably tight, to the point there actually being cheapskate guides for the game
>geralt complains about money
so fucking good. it's much more satisfying to clear a crypt after reading a book on alghouls and then taking the time to sharpen me sword, drink a swallow and cat potions at the campfire in front of the crypt entrance. compared to the dodging and rolling around of the later games.

There was an extensive post on reddit a few years back on modding witcher 1 to perfection (IMO)
The things I remember from it being the most significant were full combat rebalance, rise of the white wolf, alchemy, texture mods (a whole lot of optional mods since the game doesnt look that bad for an old game)
I can probably dig up something if you need the full list

IIRC they remove underwear from some of the models, and change camera angles on some scenes.

I love it for feeling like a big expansion pack for Neverwinter Nights.

Why does he look like kratos?

it was also made before the company almost burned to the ground because of consoles, i still hate what they did to witcher 2... Decent game but not what i really wanted.

The polish femboys have gone consistently downhill, yet they retain some; however little; goodwill
Just kick back and watch them chop off what's left of their legacy along with their cocks

I'll try to devil advocate that one
>needing to read books or listen to babushkas to know how to extract monster trophies
I actually liked W2 system, you can go full retard and fight buffed monsters untll geralt figures out their weak points, or get a book like in W1 to skip it.
>needing to constantly pick flowers and dissect monsters and making sure you have alcohol for potion ingredients instead of it being a one-off recipe that's soft locked for you because you can only get the mandatory 12 year old barrel aged aged dwarven cordial with peaty undertones in one shop on the other side of the map.
Huh, is this W2 or W3 thing?
>potions are brewed individually so you have to maintain your inventory
I believe W2 had you brew individual potions
>most potions have long effects so you can drink them before going into a dungeon or battle instead of being 30 seconds long and having geraldo stand there stupidly drinking a potion in the middle of a fight
Respectfully agree, although it was W2 that didnt allow for any potion drinking during combat.
>same goes for sharpening weapons and applying oils
ditto
>cat potion is actually good and required, instead of the shitty optional (since w2 dungeons aren't that dark) x-ray vision one
Yeah
>needing to switch between appropriate sword styles based on the enemy you're fighting
Yeah, later games do so automatic. I also miss group style, made you fell fucking invincible in later stages of the game in W1, like you would fight dozens of monsters that months before were a problem in small groups, cutting down like 10 drowners, or even vampyres felt gothic
>money actually being reasonably tight, to the point there actually being cheapskate guides for the game
Yup
>geralt complains about money
Yeah

All n all, yeah You're mostly correct, goddamn if it wasnt for the jank I'd replay that game once more. Nonetheless W2 remains my favourite.

i remember it from w3, some alcohol types could never appear as loot and you had to buy them at certain inns, problem is that the game never tells you that you can never reach the max level of potion on loot alone, and alcohol is so easy to find in the world that you just don't bother with innkeepers and their inventory, at least i didn't for the longest time. in fact i don't think i bothered with most merchants, but it's been so long since i played that i can't be sure.
cherry cordial was one of those ingredients iirc.
