So I guess /vrpg/ is full of casual trannies who want rpgs to visual novels?

sometimes words are fine, even if there's a lot of them.

I mean, on the one hand, I knew exactly what I was getting into when I started the game.
On the other, I would have liked a bit more RPG style character building. Three classes that you don't need to commit to. A boring level up system that occasionally gives you one point to advance (with wisdom, intelligence, and charisma in that order being basically mandatory) Only a few actual gear pieces, leaving little room to number-crunch and plan out what you'll need or specialize in. Only eight companions in the game, meaning that you can't have two playthroughs with an entirely unique party without undersizing.

It's a top tier story, but kind of a mid game.
It's less of an RPG than Skyrim. There, I said it.

Genuinely, I wish you suffer

>It's less of an RPG than Skyrim. There, I said it.
skyrim is a pretty sturdy rpg but is written really badly. i disagree with this though because, if we compare the same things in both, torment has more meaningful choices and significantly better writing (the rpg part of actually playing a meaningful character with a role) but is mechanically weaker (as skyrim has a much stronger focus on giving you a relatively blank slate character with a stronger focus on action bits)

planescape: torment?
not sure what you're even trying to say.
You can't be talking about Skyrim. that game doesn't have classes.

I disagree that the meaningful choices and writing quality is what makes something an RPG.
I'm more of an old style RPG fan where the point is the number crunching, build theorizing, and mechanical strategy involved in everything.
the old Tabletop RPGs didn't really care much about the story and narrative aspects of the game. That's why they decided to game-ify things like Alignment, backstory, and even stat points to an extent.

Weirdly though, the opposite approach was taken when the early CRPGs like Wizardry caught on in Japan. They took the simple "select an enemy for each of your four niggas to attack in sequence" gameplay, and ran with it. A lot of the early JRPGs were from former eroge and VN creators trying to reach a wider audience (since at the time, the main way to get people to buy was to have random nudity or sex scenes occasionally, so making a decently fun game was way more appealing) Ever since then, JRPGs have mostly been defined by their stories with gameplay usually taking a back seat.
That's kind of how I feel about Planescape Torment. It does what it sets out to do phenomenally. But I just have vastly different criteria for what I consider a good game. Such as good gameplay.

Planescape would be mid at best as a novel, it's only a deep story by late 90s video game standards, anyone who actually reads books can see this
>ummm, zoomer! tiktok brain! you're too dumb to appreciate daddy avellone's BRILLIANT writing
post books and/or novelists you enjoy, pseud faggots
>>
>>3962041
>mid novel
so what? a mid novel is better than just about 99.99% of games and 50% of novels. fuck you.
>post books and/or novelists you enjoy, pseud faggots
huh? you post em faggot, you're the one to invoke books. if you make a post like this without naming books, you're just a making a vapid shitpost

Unironically you needed to put that out. The guy you replied to likely didn't deserve to be spoken with in the first place.
