Companions no one likes. Be it because they're awful or just uninteresting.

Jacob, lol
Picrel is ofc a clear 2nd worst character. The ones in 1 and 2 were OK mostly. Idk what the me3 writers were thinking. I don't even understand what vega is doing on earth.

Grobnar actually... kind of grew on me.... his voice actor did a reasonable job with an ok script. His purpose on the party roster was to bring comedic relief that was more on the pathetic side, compared to Khelgar who was more like the butt of jokes but because he was naive and foolish, rather than whimsical or absurd. Grobnar was the absurd whimsy that the companion roster needed. He was also a pretty effective bard, mechanically, so he remained useful from the time you got him to the end game.
>>3959917
He's there to be the hypermasculine muscle sex symbol. The Mass Effect series has always struggled with that. The companion roster obviously needs that niche filled, but the writers and players never really settled on how exactly to do it... probably because it's too close to the role that Garrus plays in the socio-sexual dynamics. Garrus isn't really quite the same thing as a muscle himbo, though, and so Mass Effect was left trying to figure out how to make a man who is more than just muscles. And failed. Which I regard as the most damning indictment of gender theory, or at least of the actual practice and development of gender theory. Because a real gender theory would not just completely ignore certain genders (like cis hyper masculinity) to only focus on one (women...).

I fucking HATE her with a livid fucking passion.
>>3960605
Who? I'm kidding. But that's more respect than she deserves.
>>3960606
He's a good sex doll. But in terms of writing, he's a failure.
>>3960734
Don't play BG3, you can't get those hours back. It's 5th edition D&D, anon. You would be giving WotC money, for starters. For seconds, you'd be playing with 5e mechanics. That's two invincible reasons right there.

My character was relentlessly patient with him. I know, he's designed to be pathetic and annoying, your have endless opportunities to end up on the floor sleeping, but he's useful and my character was quite pragmatic.

Didn't Cheese McBeef turned out to be somewhat okay though? I admit that I pretty much memory holed 95% of ME3, I just have a faint souvenir of some companions being screeched at but surprisingly being not that bad.
>>

>>
>>3959917
I was fully expecting to hate Vega but I ended up liking him. For one I work with veterans, I know a million marines just like him in personality so they nailed that aspect of his character. I know why he's in the game, he's there for people who started with ME3 have a character going "wait I don't understand, what's going on?", but as a tool for delivering exposition, it works.
But yeah, he is still my least-favorite character simply because everyone he's being compared to is better.

You are autistic as shit. It's a classic case of a popular cheerleader making fun of a weird nerd by implying she would sleep with him. Sten calls her out on it and mocks her in return.
>has no problem getting knocked up by Alistar/Loghain
You are always her first option and have to refuse her before she even considers the other two.
>>
>>3961842
>[Valygar] was widely considered mandatory
What absolute bullshit. BG2 is so undertuned that like half the players played through it with a solo character. Even Demogorgon only has 290 HP even though high level fighters deal over 100 damage per turn.
>>
>>3961597
>and has no problem getting knocked up by Alistar/Loghain (you can continue romancing her even if you do this)
No you can't. Her performing the Dark Ritual with anyone else instantly breaks the romance and you can't restart it. You can check for yourself with the ending slides or by manually checking the flags.
The only ways to romance Morrigan through the end of the game are to perform the Dark Ritual yourself or to refuse, which results in her leaving your party (but her romance is still flagged as active in the game files, so you can continue it in Witch Hunt).
Try playing the game for yourself next time instead of getting all your information from a schizophrenic on /v,

Having a dudebro himbo serve as the ambassador for players new to the series was actually a very smart move
Jacob is the real turd because he's at once boring, purposeless, and deeply unlikable. I'm also a racist but even I thought his loyalty mission was extremely fucked up, genuinely what were they thinking? Black dad abandoning his family, using drugs to create his own fiefdom and harem, God damn dude

>Ryuji
He is the biggest retard in the game. Anyone calling him out on his stupidity is in the right. Besides Morgana insults his intellect which he doesn't even give a damn about. When Ryuji insults Morgana, he aims for the stuff Morgana is most insecure about. It would be reasonable if Morgana shat on Ryuji for making his mom's life hard or something, but he didn't. And Morgana was ignored multiple times before he had enough, for example the sushi incident.
>>
>>3961989
I always thought the easiest way to fix Jacob was to just have him as the stereotype of the typical Cerberus goon. Miranda might be cold but Jacob could be the one that's totally okay with torturing kids or pointless terrorist attacks as long as he sees his paycheck and gets to sip a cold beer after the mission. His fucked up loyalty mission would then fit because he's a fucked up person.

BG2 isn't undertuned. It's just that it's a known and solved game decades later. It wasn't when it released.
And it's 2nd edition D&D. Hit points are irrelevant. What mattered was the gimmick gotchas and immunities to those gotchas. Demogorgon isn't a long drawn out fight. That's not how 2nd edition bosses work at all. At fucking all. Demogorgon is what was called in those days a "puzzle monster" where you have to know about / figure out how to survive his one-shot SoD gimmick and what his vulnerability was. Demiliches in that game were the most common cause of TPK. Go look at their hit points. You can kill them basically as soon as you can get to them if you know how they work. That doesn't mean the game is undertuned, it's just that old school RPG game design was like that.

How he has the highest charisma stat of any companion is beyond me. I get that the SPECIAL points usually need to balance out, but I'd find it more believable that he had high luck or endurance, hell he seems stronger than he is charismatic. Everyone I've ever spoken to about Arcade has just kept him around to get to the Enclave Remnant.

Ryuji is the worst of the best-friend archetype in Persona and Refantazio. In a very one-note "role" he is the most one-note of them.
>>3960473
It's good that she was shit in combat to begin with so that you had no reason for bringing her. Many of the characters in Wrath had weak writing, but she was actively hampering my enjoyment. The only game I've played where a gnome has been good, though.

You mean apart from the whole assault of an enemy voidship with an epic showdown on the bridge moments away from being dissolved by translating to the Warp without a functional Gellar field moment? Or the tense gunfight which ended with his whole squad being blown up and himself being dragged out of the fire by his cyber dog minutes before that? Or the PTSD episodes late at night which you bond over as one of the incredibly rare moments of human vulnerability in a game all about the tragedy and horror of the W40k setting, which means he's literally central as a focal point to validate the setting? Or the investigation of a bizarre degenerate medieval world colony and its sinister warped mineral which showcases his personal competence and grit even in the fact of the most dire and horrific madness as he literally saves you and beats the bad guys with an actual grenade? Or the part where he plays the gothic baroque organ like a virtuoso while simultaneously putting the moves on you with fluid conversation even after deliberately humiliating himself to make his cover story more convincing? Or the part where he accidentally does fall in love with you and decides he can't just betray you and can't just betray the Arbites so he chooses to break up with you to keep things from getting worse and it tears him apart as his long-cold heart feels the warmth of real love, which is a rare thing in the Expanse?
Apart from any of that?
It's not like his mechanical performance is lacking, either. He's as strong as any other companions except for maybe an optimized Heinrix.
>>
>>3961965
This. Valygar was redundant to other characters and there was way too few weapons to equip him with, given his weapon proficiency skills.
As for how the character is presented in the game, he looks more like boredom incarnate.
>>
>>
>>3961989
Jacob was the only person on the ship who actually tried to act professionally. I believe it was a character for those who wanted a "serious" playthrough. That being said, the writing was terrible and it ruined the concept. The final result was a completely featureless character with a legendary awkward pick up text in the romance scene (which was completely out of place for this kind of character).
Not to mention he's black. Damn, I'm a tolerant man, some of my best friends are antisemites, I can endure some genuine weirdos in my virtual team, but a black man is way too much.
>>
>>
>>3964684
He has 18 Dex and can use the stun katana right away, while Minsc and Mazzy come with useless proficiencies. There are three items to boost strength and only one to boost dex. Probably would be a popular choice if he wasn't black.

>>

She was not Owlcat's choice. They exists because of the poll results during a fundraiser. Owlcat did their best to say fuck you to the trash who wrote in that they wanted kitsune.
That's why she's such an outrageously blunt caricature of the hyper autistic idiot. It was Owlcat's way of keeping their part of the legal contract of the fundraiser while also mocking the subhuman garbage who trashed the poll that ended up requiring her to be created.
She is NOT a friendly depiction. She's about as much of a serious insult as you can get without Owlcat actually literally mailing feces to the doorsteps of the polled users.
>>
>>3964684
He's the most optimal melee character in the entire game who isn't a paladin, anon. He literally starts out being able to use the best weapon in the game. He's better than Korgan. Literally by a factor of two in terms of raw damage output. His personal weapon and armor that he starts with lets him solo the game with his kit right from when you get him. He's the most powerful companion that isn't Haer'Dalis (who is held back by his THAC0 and proficiencies / weapon options, because otherwise he'd be game breaking).
You don't know what you're fucking talking about, dude.
>>
>>3963347
I see some who like Boone, Raoul, Veronica and Cass. The real shame is that you can't get Victor as a companion. Makes perfect sense as a House-aligned companion, and he's the only named character outside of the courier who travels the Mojave.
Even without the knowledge that Caesar's legion got gutted due to dev-time, I can buy that not that many people west of the Colorado wouldn't be aligned with them. Why almost no-one seems to care about House one way or another is just weird though.
>>
>>
>>3965220I actually love him. His voice actor did a great job. I love his personality, he's just not a bombastic cartoon like some of the others. He's not just sexy in an erotic sense, he's attractive as a masculine man. His casual self confidence about his body drives me fucking swimming pool drowning wild. I do kind of resent that he was not objectified nearly enough. It wouldn't help the game, and it wouldn't add to his character, and I can see why they didn't, but I still yearn for more nudity from him. He and Garrus leave a lot of questions about their anatomy unanswered, and it just isn't fair since the girls all show basically everything but their actual clits.

It was in response to a claim that he wasn't effective in his role. Which is just a falsehood easily revealed. Maybe if the game is too easy for you, turn the difficulty up from easy mode. Or install SCS which what everyone who actually plays the game now uses while playing it twenty six years later.
You probably complain that Mario RPG is easy, too, don't you. Hint: RPGs are not anti-fun. You're supposed to be able to win and complete the game eventually. That's literally the point of them.
>>

Provide the math of him not. The game isn't some kind of obscure secret, anon. Do you need other people to do addition and subtraction for you? It's 26 years old. It's a solved game, dude. Seriously. Just fucking stop. You can be wrong and it's ok. What's not ok is you doubling down on some dumbfuck ignorant opinion you had that was shown to be wrong. It makes you look like a fucking retard when you behave like that. Just shut up and don't make a big deal out of it and no one would notice that you said something a little stupid or wrong or whatever. Ok? This is basic social skills stuff.
>>
>>3966051
And where exactly was I 'shown' to be wrong? Most of the chunky enemies in the game can't even be backstabbed, and mages are pre-buffed with SCS. Korgan in turn can oneshot undead, a common enemy type, with Azuredge. With the starting weapon Stonefire he deals 4-11 +2 Fire +4 STR +5 Grand Mastery = 18,5 Damage per regular hit. He always has a THAC0 and APR advantage over Valygar due to grand mastery and their initial strength difference is substantial.
There is absolutely no way Valygar has double the damage averaged, you lying faggot.

There's nothing really wrong with Wynne as a character except for the fact that's she's only supposed to be like fifty years old instead of the eighty you'd expect from her dialogue. ME3 might have been terribly written and a complete failure at properly, or even competently, concluding the trilogy, but at least it did not make the preceding games worse merely by existing - which is more than you can say about Failguard.
