Isn't the game broken like it can't be completed? Picrel looks nice enough.
>>
>>3987265
>people are going on about anything involving Amalur
No, they don't.
>>
>>3987265
>trying to break Kingdom of Amalur of all games
This is like trying to cheat on a race against a 5 year old. Literally all the character options are broken, just pick whichever ones you think have the most fun animations (it's faeblades and chakrams btw)
>>
>>3987265
Is the dlc worth it? I always skipped the game due to its lousy ratings
>>
>>3987270
they released a patch in 2023 that broke everyone's save file. that's when i dropped it
>>3987272
when i say brokenb i mean broken on hard. chakrams require kiting and dodging and faeblades have no range. healing gem spam means you can literally hammer the attack button until everything is dead
>>3987284
fatesworn is ass. the orginal 2 dlcs are good if you like the base game, and are included with re-reckoning
>>
>>3987301
That's it. It's playable now? I swear, playing first day is just stupid.
>>
>>3987381
nah it wasn't broken on launch, that's the funny thing. it had performance issues in 2020, which are fixed, but they just decided to break everyone's save file in 2023 by adding a new quest to the base game
>>
>>3987386
That's some level of incompetence that was thought impossible. 8 bucks for such an old game. Heck, it's even more expensive than kingdom hearts 3. How long? 10-20h?
>>
>>3987265
I hate when people talk about this game because it makes me want to play it again and I waste 20 hours playing it before realising I don't want to play it. I'm not sure I've ever made it further than half way.

Does it work on the steam deck? Playing it in small handheld doses might actually fix that.
>>
>>3987301
>and faeblades have no range
The final attack in its weapon passive tree has a huge jumping range and stunlock. I don't think any other melee weapon offers anything better.
>>
>>3987381
>I swear, playing first day is just stupid.
Waiting 14 years to play it is a bit extreme.
>>
>>3987392
I finished the game and both dlcs on my deck, works very well. Would probably drop in if I wasn't playing a universalist who can switch playstyles at will and easily max out every skill.

>>3987426
It's fun if you like constant variety and trying different weapon combos. You won't get the high end abilities, but weapons are good enough, and the flame mark or whatever was its name is an incredibly strong spell for the entire game.
You'll unlock progressively higher tiers of this class as you evenly spread skill points between three masteries.
>>
I tried playing this game like 4 separate times, every single time i have a lot of fun at the beginning but i'am bored out of my mind when i reach the first big Fay city ( court of the summer fae, i think?). Is that normal?

Also, the game desperately needed some sort of party-system or AI companions
>>
>>3987449
> i'am bored out of my mind when i reach the first big Fay city ( court of the summer fae, i think?
sounds like you're spending too much time in the early areas and doing every sidequest. the moment you're level 13 you need to stop doing any of the non main/ faction quest stuff in any of the forest areas and beeline to rathir or adessa so you can keep scaling and fight new enemies and get new gear
>Also, the game desperately needed some sort of party-system or AI companions
you frequently get companions in most of the main/ quest faction dungeons. i like how it's done here, reminds me of jade empire
>>
>>3987432
Right. Guess I'll add sweetspot for martial rogue and pump sorc.
>>
>>3987403

>>
>>3987301
>when i say brokenb i mean broken on hard
Yes, anon, and I mean the game is fairly easy (though still fun) even on hard. Like notoriously so. Also far blades have gap closers and you can use chakrams without kiting, I know I did. There's zero point in spending your time grinding out the option that kills things in 2 seconds instead of 3 other than for curiosity's sake.
>>
>>3987751
Awesome, will get it next sale. Shame that DD and this are the pinnacle of arpg combat.
>>
>>3987756

>>
>>3987265
More like Kingdom of Bankrupt Rhode Island.
>>
>>3987780
Nah, I think you're just missing something/something hasn't clicked for you yet. I did eventually end up optimising towards the end, but that's because I ended up being caught in the smithing+enchanting gameplay loop rather than out of necessity. Or maybe my build (rogue + mage trees) was OP and I didn't realise.
>>
>>3987794
i'm not saying it's elden ring, it's just you have to do more dodging and positioning than i'm used to in rpgs. maybe that to you is easy, but to me easy means i can mash a single button while not looking at the screen and win every fight
>>
>>3987270
It's surprisingly polished for a massive open world game. There're only two notable bugs - the quest chain about a demon in a desert area can only be completed in a certain order, otherwise it breaks. And the final quest in the thieves guild requires you to get through a dialogue as fast as possible, otherwise the game permanently locks you inside a dungeon's room after it ends
>>
>>3987301
>when i say brokenb i mean broken on hard
There's a new even harder difficulty in the remaster, that actually makes combat pretty fun. It makes the game pretty fucking difficult in the beginning, but even at max level enemies can still easily kill you in a few hits.
>>
>>3987804
>pretty fun
>enemies are extra spongy and can also combo you to death
>doesn't even come with an achievement
in the endgame what this means is you can't lose but you can be stunned and every fight takes minutes
>>
>>3987805
You quickly kill everything in the endgame, but everything can still kill you.

I did a complete replay of the game a few months back because of the new dlc. Got tired of the game during the last part of the main game, shit just got too repetative and then i actively started hating the game when i started the new dlc, which was pure dogshit.
The pirate dlc is pure kino though, wish it was a whole game based around you stranded on a huge island while slowly building up your kingdom

Amalur in general would benefit from being more linear and focused. Both DLCs are good, and the final areas of the vanilla game work well.

>Take off the only thing that matters in this dogshit button masher to prove my nonexistent point
No wonder you defend this shovelware, only a terminal retard would ever make such a terrible argument.
Of course you "minmax" gear since that's the only thing this dogshit is about and tier 2 gear alone completely breaks the game including the 3rd DLC content as long as you understand basic math and look how affixing works, never mind how simple Gold rarity sets are more than enough too so you don't even need to craft anything, just savescum any chest in the game since this dumpster fire actually procedurally generates chest content dynamically so you can just savescum a single treasure room for a couple of minutes and get gamebreaking gear for free.
>>3989069
What completely different playstyles?
All weapons have ONE combo string with zero fucking properties, all weapon abilities are just fancy ways to get staggers for your infinite combo extends, magic is just fireballs and nukes, fucking GOW1 has a deeper combat system, this dogshit is all about button mashing one button no matter what "style" you choose.
Never mind the complete lack of enemy variety either, I'm sure you brainlets who don't even understand what a fucking RPG is love button mashing through six different colours of helpless threshes and wolves for hundreds of hours with the only difference being how bloated their HP bar is.

I didn't look up or abuse anything you stupid retard, and yes, this trash is not only bad but extremely easy and boring which is why it bombed horribly and everyone sane agrees that it's buggy, poorly made dogshit.
But of course, you have to be the contrarian out of touch shill on /vrpg/ calling other people "pathetic nolifers" (while playing a literal failed offline MMO for maximum irony) for actually engaging with the poorly designed mechanics of this shitty button masher and pointing them out.
>>
>>3989077
>who aren't PATHETIC nolifers
He sounds like a genuine schizo, I would've dropped the game in a couple of hours if I hated it so much. I am a true pathetic nolifer, so I went out of my way to only use armor that looks nice on my character and let enemies be able to kill me at any point of the game. This way even fate potions become a cool mechanic that allows you to literally change your fate and survive some spellcasting gang bang.

>Faggot who boasts about how "rushing" life regen gear early breaks the game can't stop pearl clutching about the very shit he's using when somebody else brings it up
There's no abuse no matter how much you hypocritically kick and scream about it retard, the game is just poorly designed as you yourself admitted in the very OP, the math is all over the place to the point Tier 2 armor alone completely invalidates everything you can get after that because of how the basic defense calculation works and how easy it is to stack shit, ALL OF WHICH is just interacting with a core mechanic at a surface level, without getting into the actual exploits of other poorly designed shit I mentioned like again, savescumming chests.
Which by the way, you don't even know how that actually works but you took that line and sinker like the gullible idiot you are, chest rewards are scaled with your character level so it's one of the poorest uses of your time especially because again, Tier 2 gear with basic crafting is vastly more powerful and isn't level gated, which you'd immediately point out if you actually had any actual knowledge of the dogshit you're shilling for which is so damn buggy simply browsing your equipment menu fucks up the game.
But sure, do keep accusing other people of "abusing" a core game mechanic when you do the same exact thing in the OP, moron.
>>
>>3989096
the difference is healing gems work as intended, they're just overpowered. what you're doing is exploiting unintended mechanics, unequipping and reequipping shit

Oh so healing "gems" are an intended (but overpowered) mechanic but stacking defense gems, attack gems or anything that isn't healing gems totally isn't, I wonder why they put that shit in the game if they didn't intend for me to use it.
And I guess you're not intended to have actual functioning menus either since just unequipping shit gives the game a stroke, I guess you're not intended to speak to NPCs either since if the game bugs out while loading any given instance it can completely lock down on top of making NPCs bug out in the weirdest ways possible.
I guess you're not intended to have functioning shaders either since half of the vfx don't fucking work, I guess you're not intended to open chests since at any given point in the game you can cause a gamebreaking bug that makes random chests uninteractable.
You're an even bigger imbecile than the people who agreed to fund this dumpster fire, truly a game by clueless imbeciles for clueless imbeciles.

why do people keep fucking saying this, big huge games always designed it as a single player rpg about looting dungeons before schilling and his guys came along and slapped amalur on top of it
>At first, our RPG project was named “Crucible” and was being published by THQ. We were making great progress on it, and THQ was happy enough with the progress that they purchased us outright; and we became an internal THQ studio. Around that time we switched some of the key features of the game and renamed the project “Ascendant.” We were part of the THQ network of studios for a short period of time right up to the point that THQ started running out of money. Our big, juicy, unproven-in-the-genre studio was a prime target for them to try to sell.
>With literally days left on the “close the doors” timer at the studio, THQ sold us to Curt Schilling’s 38 Studios, which has R.A. Salvatore as “creator of worlds.”

pure mage is the most boring garbage i've ever played in my life, you just spam mark of flames from a distance until everything dies
>>3991275
fae lookin' ass
>>
>>3991275
Have faeblades, too. Just realized I didn't even pump the mastery.
>wayfarer
Whatever the last generalist class is called. It enables all weapon masteries (sounds like Dd2), has anyone tried that?
>repetitive
Ngl the game falls off fast. Still like it,... Idk, maybe I just stop doing side quests and start doing main quests.
>>
>>3991297
It's great if you don't care about high tier abilities. It's mostly about being able to use any weapon and max every single skill, and combining low-mid tier abilities.
On the other hand the last upgrade for feyblades grants you a really broken jumping attack, and a universalist gets it near the fucking level cap.
>>
>>3991300
Will make a second run, likely stealth main and maybe two or three fighter skills. I am already a mass monster. Admittedly due to an amulet granting me 120 hp or so. Im having a hard time getting fun faeblades or staffs.
>>
I'm convinced to replay it.
So for the first run: a normal, serious character or a sexy brown elf?
>>
>>3991365
Dark elves have a combo of face and hair that looks like a gigachad.
>>
>>3991365
>So for the first run: a normal, serious character or a sexy brown elf?
is there anything remotely serious about amalur? the answer to that is no, so play your kuroinu ripoff to your heart's content

It doesn't seem to matter at all. You can be an elf(ar) and people will still slag off the alfar to your face while you act like you've never heard of them.
I am going to play the whole game with my big elf boobies out. Unless there's some armour that also shows them off.
>>
>>3991464
they're important if you need to hit a specific tier quickly, like for detect hidden or alchemy
>>3991470
i got a line where a character slags off dokkalfar and then goes "present company excluded, of course". might have been agarth in the tomb thing where you get the codex

Will do the same with my white ass girl. Playing delf rn.
Game was for quite some time in development. Lore is pretty thin.
>>
>>3991475
Pretty idiotic to tie something like gems to skill usage. Pretty gimped without them. Not leveling blacksmith locks out a lot of fun.
>>3991475
Present company excluded? Didn't thq2 force them to ship out immediately? Then again, I'm u sure if another year would've helped with the quality.
>magic users shooting coloured energy from staffs
Why isn't that the way to go? It's so rarely used. Basically DD and this. Have a feeling Dd2 copied amalur in some aspects.
>>
>>3991491
>Pretty idiotic to tie something like gems to skill usage. Pretty gimped without them. Not leveling blacksmith locks out a lot of fun.
sagecrafting yes, blacksmithing is pretty meh until the late game in general-you don't get flawless stuff until the mid 30s.
>Present company excluded?
it's an english phrase for when someone is a member of the group you're disparaging. i was a dokkalfar so i got exclusive dokkalfar dialogue
>Why isn't that the way to go?
i feel like msot magic staffs in videogames shoot magic at people desu. only dnd doesn't do it

Lol, I know. I failed to greentext. Failed big league.
>dokkalfar
I'm one, too. Delf. I do get the impression that some treat me as human at times.
Am level 10 now and the wayfarer niw shows how slow he gets new new abilities. The next ones unlock in 10 levels. Still haven't progressed the main quest.
>most staffs do it
Maybe so. Might be that these game suck. Only one I can think of is Harry Potter.
>>
>>3991542
i've only ever dual classed in this game-might/ sorcery, might/ finesse and i'm currently on a pure sorcerer at level 11, so i have tier 4 abilities. just one of the drawbacks of tri-classing
>>
>>3987265
Is it fun?
>>
>>3991569
yes, if you know what you're doing
>>
>>3991542

>STR
Harpoon
>INT
Flame mark for aoe, thunder ball for stunning
>DEX
I don't even know, ice mines if you're feeling cute
>>
>>3991700
Enemies need 10-12 hits, bosses instantly die when fate shadow man soul reaver activates. Have harpoon and the charge abilities for blue and yellow. Waiting for grenades and summon. The way I see it, their respective upgrades are the last skills I will unlock.
>>
>>3991713
The weapon mastery bonus from the final destiny is going to free up a lot of points after the respec. The summon won't do anything in combat though, it's mostly useful for healing you on hit with the first upgrade.
>>
>>3991743
You get refunds? That's cute. Then again, respec is nearly free. The remaster has some surprising qol features. Haven't played the original, so idk if it had these, too.
>summon shit
Oh, dang. My idea was to use the summon and the sphere of protection that shoots at enemies, while I faeblade away.

Mark of flame is very strong for the entire game, and carries you until you unlock the endgame spells.
>>
>>3991871
i have only ever found it good when 10 or so enemies are clumped up and you can kill everything in 4 casts. also the only way pure mage is survivable is if you equip every single health buff you find. all in all, significantly weaker than melee rogue/ warrior with health regen gems
>>
>>3991871
Sorceror has little spell selection, insulting, really. They could've at least give you each element for the offense spells.

I absolutely fucking HATE the dispel minigame.
>>
>>3991899
What's it even for? I leveled it and constantly fail it big league. When it explodes I loose like 100 or 150 health and get the items anyway. Does solving it give you xp? The lock picking is maybe the worst lock pick minigame in any game.
>>
>>3991899
>>3991918
as someone who just got the cheevo, it's fine. harder wards will curse you if you fail them if you don't have dispelling at 5(?) or something. lock picking is absurdly easy
>>
>>3991924
I have it at 5 iirc and get cursed constantly. It's like 900 gold and I have 100k at level 10. Idk what to do with the money, likely gambling. Scummy move to limit the stuff you can buy form him. Might chuck potions and make equipment. Haven't found a blacksmith vendor for materials, yet. Just playing my second main mission.
>>
>>3991926
>100k
100k won't buy shit. prismere weapons are like 500k

>>
>>3991931
Ye, will likely skip blacksmithing with this char. Have dispel (useless), 1 alchemy (also useless) and detect and the gem skill (sage?). Have decent gems now, but no slots. Save summed some gambling from the first city and have little money left. Also got the fate disk or whatever. Game is a mess design wise, like DD and Dd2. Curious if there will be a dlc for Dd2.
>what's the perfect arpg like, what does amalur and by extension dd(2) miss?
>>
>>3992080
Alchemy eventually allows you to craft fate potions that allow you to enter fate mode multiple times in a row. It's especially useful against the final boss.
>>
Ever notice how the final attack of a chakram combo leaves you completely unable to dodge or block?
>>
>>3992321
that's every combo. you can roll cancel out of the first chakram attack you do
>>
>>3992323
Maybe a little bit of delay on some. But no weapon leaves you as wide open while the long animation completes.

hammers? staffs? greatswords? even longswords have recovery on the final swing
>>
>>3987405
>Kingdoms of Amalur and Dragon's Dogma are somehow the only two action RPGs with good combat
Because they were more action games than RPGs in terms of ratios. For some reason RPG devs are content with "eh, it works" when it comes to their combat systems.
>>
>>3992276
Maybe, but I kill anything that moves so I'm having a hard time believing anything can damage me. I am looking for trainers and will buy skills and books.
>>
>>3992321
That's by design. Enemies are obviously rubber banding and it's incredibly boring.
>>3992323
I think enemies wouldn't stand a chance without these. I'm level 13 or so and I'm incredibly strong. Adrenaline, protection sphere, 300hp, big sack of gold (for the ladies)

Ye, I think I'll start the dlc soon. Then I will likely beat the game. It gets dull very fast. Painfully generic is real. After a while it really hurts. Shame, could've been an outstanding game. >>3992327
>For some reason RPG devs are content with "eh, it works" when it comes to their combat systems.
I mean, it took infinite wealth to improve jrpg combat. Even e33 relies on parry or whatever, effectively reducing the game to a game of clicking ti the beat or rather visual cue.
>>
>>3992810
>ultimate magic talisman
if you're level 13 you ain't seen anything close to ultimate it's why your eyes glazed over as i showed off a prismere weapon at level 16. also backpacks are like 15k anyway, you can get one in the starting town for that amount
>>3992812
>It gets dull very fast. Painfully generic is real. After a while it really hurts.
idk, i like it. if you're focused on melee damage and have to roll and position and identify which enemy is active which i find pretty engaging. if you're not playing re-reckoning you might also have a warped view of how the level scaling works. also the artstyle is awesome

Yeah, the enemies do hit the player often or let you wait a while to exploit opportunities without harm.
>scaling
Always bad. Equipment detoriates very fast and forces you to switch. It's just so unrealistic, the world toughen up within 2 hours and your weapons of mass destruction aren't worth their salt anymore. I'll have fun beat it, but will lilely let some time pass for a second run. Builds are OK, I guess. Still am under the impression that Dd2 stole the wayfarer from amalur.

JAWS OF LIFE
>>
>>3992815
a lot of changes that work wonders together. stuff like active repositioning, environmental interactivity and smackdown which lets you easily take out weak enemies.
>>
>>3992815
There are now reasons to use attack, like combo, proxy and back attack. You can also move the character a little, positioning can have some small effect. Unfortunately the story is the definition of idiots plot and the charismatic main character from lad was flanderized so fast, we should call flanderized now ichibanized. It's beyond ridiculous. Lad and iw are worth a play imo. Clearly iw has an atrociously bad narrative.
>>
>>3992827
>smackdown which lets
'bit overturned. I solo the games, as its too easy otherwise and the other three hit for like 1 damage and the enemies ragdoll after getting 1 damage.
