This guy is bullshitting because Communism is a straight upgrade over Monarchy. Also anybody intending to end up as a Democracy would be much better served going for Republic as an intermediary, with Monarchy only as a very optional and temporary stepping stone to Republic.

1. If a defending unit dies, every unit in that tile dies. Unless it is in a city, or in a tile with fortification.
2. Rough terrain defensive bonuses are massive.
3. Walled cities are difficult to take before modern era, because of point 1.

NTA but that is just not true at all. It takes way too long to unlock, and by the time you unlock it you have access to Fundamentalism which is just flat out better than Communism in almost every way. Democracy is the best if you want to go for economical victories so it does has its perks. Monarchy exists either as a stepping stone or a rushed victory. Communism is way too out of the way to accomplish anything at a good pace, and there are always better options even when you do get access to it.

I should've worded this better. Yes, Communism, by technicality, is better than Monarchy, but Republic, Democracy, or Fundamentalism are the big three you want. Communism takes too much investment for too little gain. Woohoo, your spies are a bit better. Not worth the time or science spent on it.

Spam settlers and cities, until there is no space on the map. Then start spamming military units. Figure out the combat yourself, it's part of the fun. While playing tall can be viable sometimes, it's always suboptimal. You want to expand for more production, it's as simple as that.
