People keep reading kiloton equivalents as meaning "this bomb is as destructive as dozens of bombers dropping 1000 1-ton bombs" when that's not remotely true. Even people in the military and science fields that should really know better make that mistake. Energy released does not directly correlate with destructiveness when you're comparing a single point explosion (that ends up wasting most of its energy) vs many many explosions scattered out for maximum widespread effectiveness.
