From what i remember from my last deep dive into this (some time ago):

Karmein could be done by Mr Cruel but it was a break in his MO. He invested significant effort (and took personal risk) to bring back the other children unscathed (apart from the abuse). Putting 3 bullets in a girls head is the opposite. But maybe he panicked.

I think the head of the investigation personally believes it was that pedo academic, but can't prove it.

I've seen the theory floated that the airplane sounds the kids heard while they were abused could be tape recordings, not actual planes flying overhead. Seems reasonable given all the other planning/diversions he did.

Not sure about the electricity station angle -- could be overfitting but idk.
