This links also, to out of all things, The Powerpuff Girls, where IIRC in the 'lore' they were partially based off a of girl who in the show is called "Sarah Bellum" (lol), and they are made partially from Chemical X which is Black Goo.

also interestingly, there a theory that the cerebellum acts almost like a parasite or other living thing - sort of like how Mitochondria work in cells.
Autists and (IIRC) schizos have impaired communication between the cerebellum and 'higher' brain
