Or maybe all sufficiently advanced lifeforms turn into what we call stars. And the universe is massively populated, but we see all these stars and star formations and just assume whatever we assume, without even thinking that these stars (even our Sun included) might be alive and conscious and the most advanced forms of existence allowed in this material universe.
