This was the first long manga I read while learning Japanese; maybe not really the most beginner-friendly choice, but great for learning interesting idioms like 腑に落ちない. Also, Takane is my beloved, now and forever.

Despite lacking much of the cast, this is my favorite episode of the show and easily one of the best anime episodes ever made. Sketchbook is about art as perspective; all its characters are weirdos with odd views of the world, but their ability to inspire others with those perspectives is what makes them artists. Nagisa sees the world as a haven for interesting insects; I love the way Sora learns to appreciate her point of view when Nagisa spots the low-flying bird and yells, "bugs!" or when she lifts up the leaf to reveal a sheltering butterfly. This episode distills into the relationship between two characters and one gloriously drizzly afternoon everything that makes the show special.
