Does anyone here think this show actually adapts the story well? I can tell that the animation had more budget than probably Shibou Yuugi's entire adaptation, but it feels like it's trying to jump from one important story beat to the next with barely any connecting scenes.

This adaptation is not that good.
For example, Ink appearing as a hostage out of nowhere is jarring because it's an anime original scene. Dein was chasing Flum with a lot of slaves strapped with bombs from the very beginning. He also had bomb strapped child slaves near every exit of the west district to stop Flum from escaping. Flum also murders many soldiers and adventurers while escaping once she figures out that she will be a criminal anyways.
The blob in the previous chapter is not as shocking nor creepy becuase it didn't show the eyeball and Ink was introduced a bit before instead of the start of the arc..
The whole Chimera Ogre scene was longer, with Flum and Sara escaping, hiding and finding for clues about the situation while a lot of spiraled researchers were crying HELP ME like some sort of sonar to help the ogre to locate Flum and Sara.
Eterna had a short scene before leaving the party.
Gadhio also warns Cyril about not trusting everything at face value and be especially suspicious of Maria.
At this point, I bet that the adaptation will also skip Flum getting desperate after Milkit is kidnapped and chase Ink out of the house calling her a monster just to regret it a few moments later, a moment too late because she is also kidnapped.

I feel that the anime has too many different story-threads that will likely converge in the future, but for now feel a bit disjointed:

>people being unaware of Jean's lie
>church/army conflict
>demon's investigation into the spiral stuff
>Flum acquiring cursed items
>Dein and the guild

Also, it feels that much of Flum's and Milkit's relationship has developed offscreen, since Milkit is left behind in most scenes when Flum does something.

A lot of volume 2 was very summarized, but it's also adapting manga changes that didn't exist in the novels, in the novels the guild guys are more of background characters and the focus is really on Dein

It did, even those the anime has some SOL episodes, it still skipped a lot of stuff from the novels that makes their relationship progress feel more natural, actually I would even argue they are gayer in the anime then they were in the novels at this point, it may be building to a kiss since this won't have a next season.
