Been a while since I rewatched but...
5>3>4>1>2>8>7>6>9>9.5
7 is the biggest mystery to me I have seen it probably 4-5 times and I don't have any strong opinion about it despite it being so hyped, I think its just okay.
>>
>>286414070
2 has the most tension between Shiki and Kokutou because she's still a serial killer. It makes the entire movie interesting.
Honestly my favorite is a tossup between 7, 2, and 5. I just ordered them that way to be contrarian

2nd time watching
I'm not sure if I understand the chronological order of the movies, is it like this?
2 > 4 > 3 > 1 > 5 > 6
>>
>>286414735
Twice overall, but I had to watch Spiral Paradox about 3 times to sort of understand and I still missed stuff like the lock having a different sound or the first Touko cut being the last one which then transitions to the 1st one before Mikiya showed up

The 6th movie's post credits was a flashback to tie back into murder speculation yeah. A lot of the flashbacks happen during other movies or during different times like 5th's flashback happening before 1, 3, and in the middle of 2

Godspeed, anon. 5 takes a few watches until everything clicks. The overall story is fairly simple but it's told in purposefully deceitful way with lots of neat little things that you can't catch unless you know what you're looking for
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>286454472
>>286454775
Likewise I got it more or less my first watch in terms of timeline and plot but I still miss lot of neat details that were sort of informed by the Nasuverse shit and other movies. A few standout cases
>Araya's first attempts to talk to Shiki were trying to awaken her origin to shortcut his experiment
>Touko hypnotizing Kokutou
>The elevator spinning is shown early
>The click of the door is different between the two doors
I suppose I very much enjoy how subtle the magecraft is in KnK compared to Fate/ and later Nasuworks. Circuits are less obvious and it isn't so noisy visually. Iirc El-Melloi handles magecraft in a similar way at times but it's still more outright wizard shit instead of dickass magi things
>>
>>286458497
Yes no less good
>>286456228
>>286458284
Araya was something else. I'm surprised Nasu got away with the fake priest archetype twice with Araya and Kirei
>>
>>
>>286459630
Nasu's got a solid sense of writing actual plot, but his lore and writing are extremely insular and self-referential. What you should probably fear is the excessive amount of purple prose he likes to use, but as I understand it that's just the Japanese way. I don't think outside of normie-tier fantasy it's possible to write fantasy without turning into Nasu
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>286466874
>pozzed
>Nasu regularly talks about women getting raped and abused and doesn't make a comment about it being bad or anything
>Araya's entire suffering engine
Pozzed in what way? Everyone who has some element of pozzed to them in the series is quite literally mentally ill
>>
>>
>>286471327
I don't have a lossless release at hand for comparison, but here's a quick one-frame comparison between Fortissimo and ANE:
ANE: https://files.catbox.moe/cvi8w1.png
Fortissimo: https://files.catbox.moe/oty4rt.png
It's from a high-motion shot, so that's about as bad as the quality gets at worst. The main reason why Fortissimo is half the size of ANE is that HEVC is just that much more efficient.

I enjoyed 6 much more than the rest too. The movies, while amazing, had way little Mana.
>>286454182
Man these things costed a fortune in my country even before Covid hit. I dont think I'll ever get to enjoy one of these.
>>
>>
>>286474686
A 1 litre tub of these costed around 20 dollar equivalents here last I checked back in 2022. Compared to local brands (which probably sell milk solid infused sugar water in the name of ice cream but I digress) for 3 bucks.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>286475290
I tried to learn during the Covid lockdown, Every ice cream recipe required an ice cream maker or some sort of fancy freezer and not a 30 year old fridge with minimal features that is miraculously still chugging along because of superior Japanese manufacturing of the 80s.

The cheap local ice cream is good though.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>286477963
Yeah, modern ice cream is extra effort but making something via baking to get a similar snack like a flan or creme brulee should be achievable for your average anon. Can always have alternatives, though ice cream can be nice. Ideally, not with shit beer.
>>286479966
That's a lot of name brands in America yeah, unfortunate how it is.
>>
>>286474880
For some reason a lot of stuff that's practically bottom shelf in the USA or Japan get marketed as a premium product in Europe, probably because they know people heard about them in hollywood movies and american pop music and shit but don't really know enough about them to know that they are anything but premium.

I generally get most of the series but the thing I still don't understand is how Araya's plan worked.
How exactly would repeating people's deaths over and over open a path to the Root?
>>
>>286487294
You really shouldn't think to hard about it, even if you do you'll find out it was just plot devices with no coherent explanation.
Nasu is only good for the settings and chuuni. His characters and writing are absolutely atrocious, at least in KnK.
The movies are only good for the great score and pretty visuals, they don't have anything else going for them at all.

Okay, if Haagen Daaz is pretty bad then what is a good ice cream brand? I might just buy one for shits and giggles despite temps being in Spring season range.
>>286487294
I can't remember because I last watched films 8 years ago.
>>
>>286487294
The 64 different deaths and the two sides of the building represent the hexagrams and the yin and the yang, making the building an embodiment of the Taiji. By placing Shiki inside the building, Araya would have had Shiki's Taiji inside the Ogawa mansion's Taiji, and he expected this to work (and it might have actually worked?) because reasons I guess.
>>
>>286487294
It has been years since I saw the film but he was probably curious whether the residents of the mansion could achieve enlightenment in his miniature recreation of the samsara like the buddhas of the in-universe real world have done.

>>
>>286487425
Isn't Mikiya missing the eye that's not facing towards the camera in that shot...maybe he thought it would have been weird for Shiki if she had to bring herself like an inch away from the hole where his left eye used to be for the sake of a kiss.
>>
>>
>>286488896
Yes, he does. I think it started as an experiment about whether things really were fated to repeat as they always do, since he's like a crestfallen buddhist priest who should not really believe that things are fated to repeat constantly because that's contrary to the tenets of buddhism, and when he became convinced that yes, they are, that's when he decided that he needed Ryougi to open a portal to the Root, to give meaning to everyone's deaths through bearing witness to all of them.
>>
>>286489039
>>286488896
Like a proper buddhist would believe that given enough repetitions of the cycle someone would achieve enlightenment and realize what was going on. But the cycles just kept going and going without anyone ever getting the slightest clue.
>>
>>
>>286429151
Save for 5 they are more like OVA episodes rather than real movies. Overlooking View is what, 31 minutes long...
>>286470375
Nasu said in an interview that japanese feminists praised his work for having a lot of strong female characters, but he said he feels kinda awkward about it because almost all of his "strong female characters" job to the male MC's penis. Arcueid? Jobs. Ciel? Jobs. Akiha? Jobs. Saber and Rin? Jobbers.
>>
>>286487582
>>286489039
>>286489057
He originally didn't think he would have needed Ryougi(or maybe he always did, Araya was going after Ryougi even back during Murder Speculation), his infinite suffering farm was about the repeating cycle of death creating some deviation eventually outside of his design that WOULD have allowed him to, by studying and understanding that variance, open a path to the root. When he became a doomed and realized that this wouldn't work, and that Shiki had the MEoDP and her origin, then he did the Taiji shit to try to force himself into the Root using Shiki's already open route (the MEoDP) as he hadn't known about VOID Shiki. It is somewhat an idea that he hoped that constant reincarnation of the soul, given that he kept the brain jars and therefore their "soul" as seen ain't Enjoy, that the enlightenment of the tenants would lead to his own. But Araya, like a typical mage, had too many moving parts in his plan and was flying by the seat of his pants the second he decided to start dealing with unknowns and the incredibly insane like Alba. Of course, Araya probably may have had a chance if he actually tried to earnestly go after the Root without shortcuts given that he's effectively immortal, but I get the sense that the constant reincarnations have really fucked him up
>>
>>286489471
7 is another two hour movie right?
>>286489471
Nasu himself says he's somewhat ashamed that he makes strong women who have weak mentality, which I guess was a bit corrected with Mahoyo, but yeah. He's kind of just got a particular taste in women I guess.
>>
>>286489581
Uh yeah, that one is pretty long too. 6 is also like exactly 60 minutes, I think.
Legends say that he grew up with two older sisters who were kinda domineering, so maybe that's why this scenario of a male MC getting bossed around by two female characters who are stronger than the male MC is at a baseline outside of the Cool Moment Midway Through the Route and Even Cooler Moment During the Finale.

Has anyone else ever felt a similarity in Araya's samsara suffering farm and the plot of the film Dark City (1998)? I won't say more if you haven't seen it, but it's worth a watch and I kept wondering if it's even remotely possible that the Dark City write knew of KNK. Probably not, I guess, because the anime wasn't made yet. But there are similarities.

Dark City predates the first KnK chapter by 8 months.
