RIP to the honorable man who built the model studio that all anime studios should follow.
Thank you for all the cute, sexy waifus Hatta-sensei. The characters you helped create will live on forever in our hearts, and our dicks.

Wouldn't be surprised if the emotional and psychological toll that left on him played a roll in his passing. I don't want to theorize, but losing over 30 of your pupils on a single day is just devastating beyond words. Especially when you consider the fact that KyoAni is basically the only major anime studio that actually cares about its workers. They actually made having a humane work environment a core part of their brand and business model. It makes watching anything made by KyoAni feel not only satisfying to watch knowing that it had years of love and care poured into it, but like you're supporting a good cause at the same time. It's nice to be able to watch an anime with top of the industry level production quality without having to worry about how many animators killed themselves in the process of making it. I really hope the popularity of KyoAni's work serves as a wake up call to the industry. Just think of all flops that could've been massive hits if not for the late-stage capitalist dystopian hellscape that is the anime industry.
>>
>>286443855
Cap. KyoAni has just been slow to come back. Losing Yamada was honestly the biggest blow to their quality. Yamada's directing style and legacy is so intimately tied with KyoAni's style, that it feels gross seeing her leave for Science Saru. I will never get used to seeing a Yamada production with an art style other than the KyoAni art style.

Am I the only one who saw the whole fire weird? I mean, look at the photos of the building. It's too hard to die like that, and the guard was missing that day as well as the floor door being conveniently closed that day

What roles did they serve? I can only assume that they were legacy members of the staff like Yamada was. I mean, fuck, Yamada was one of the episode directors for Clannad: After Story. She's been with the studio for that long and she left. That's just tragic man. It's sacrilegious against anime in fact.

You aren't necessarily wrong about Yamada and kyoani tied together, even aniplex producer says that as her storytelling was integrated into the studio however they had already focused on that before her, she just took it to the highest ceiling. Kigami you can call him ace/father as he could do almost everything, Yamada was the face but if one shaped the studio I would say it's kigami. Shouko ikeda designs similarly for the younger generation, haven't seen many in the industry replicate the volume in characters as well as she did. Takemoto had a different style compared to the kyoani mould, nishiya is just an outlier like yamada but in character designs. Iirc there were few who had higher authority, ikeda was one of them for a long while. Kigami, ikeda and nishiya were affiliated with the studio much longer than yamada

Rest in Peace.
Now the question stands: Who will take up this role/these roles in KyoAni?

We remain committed to creating work that can be enjoyed by people all over the world, carrying forward the spirit in our ‘all-hands-on-deck’ principle.
Presumably Hideki and Yoko Hatta's son

Haruhi is owned by Kadokawa, it's them who decides what gets a new season or not. They could even use another anime studio, like they hired Satelight to animate The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan.

It's an overwhelming norm but it's not nationally illegal, just good luck finding a graveyard. (Often is, but on a local level.)
Some places there are controversies because immigrants/religious minorities set up a cemetery.
>>
>>286447305
>Often is, but on a local level
That's what I meant, it basically means de facto illegal everywhere. It's the same thing as back when the age of consent was 13 while it was 16 or 18 in virtually every government unit and municipality
>Some places there are controversies because immigrants/religious minorities set up a cemetery.
If you're talking about the plans in Oita and Miyagi, then yes there is controversy but no there are no muslim cemeteries since the whole hullaballoo is because the government shot the petitions down
Practically every cemetery that allows burials are from before Meiji era, and can't be used anyway since they're all full.

Bought them a few years ago. From top to bottom, about to finish the mermaid one. DenMoku sucked but the others were damn good.
>>

>>
>>286448656
>The other one from denmoku author, I heavily doubt it's any good.
From the synopsis alone it seems better, but we'll see.
>How is mare so far?
Pretty damn good though a bit weird at times. SakuMachi is still better.
>Also so far from the trailer released is it following the denmoku novel or have they gone completely off rails
Things they (seem to have) changed:
>Kihachi is an edgy depressed wreck now. In the novel he's very determined and proactive and his only edgy trait is bashing religion whenever he can.
>Seiroku's death was a bit of a secret in the novel that was only revealed about 2/5 of the way in, but now it seems to be an immediate factor.
>Electricity isn't as big of a deal in their fictional world so I don't know how Kihachi is supposed to be influenced by its advent. The whole deal about electricity in the novel is that it's awesome and it's super convenient and it's poised to changed the world.
>Inako has a pet weasel now apparently for some reason.
>Seiroku is now muscular when the novel describes him as skinny.
>For some reason they live in the fictional 明滋 era, instead of the real 明治.
>Kuga has a scar in his face now. Doesn't contradict anything from the novel but it's never mentioned, though it makes sense.
So far there's too little info about how it's going to pan out, though I could recognize a few scenes from chapters 2 and 3. It has some original dialogue but nothing that directly contradicts the story more than what I already mentioned, from what I remember.
>>
>>286448968
Meant for >>286448790
Also, tbf, I'm judging Kihachi as edgy mostly due to the design and the he expresses himself, but he doesn't come across as being like that at all in the novel.

Also I like to think that the reason the obvious third volume implied by the second ending never came out is that they're holding off until they actually adapt it. Other series didn't seem to have any problem just pumping out tons of books.

DenMoku:
>This book is an expanded and revised version of "Nijisseiki Denki Mokuroku," which won the Encouragement Award in the Long Novel category at the 8th Kyoto Animation Awards.
SakuMachi:
>This book is a revised, expanded, and edited version of "Sakura no Furu Machi", which won the KA Esuma Bunko Special Prize in the Novel Category of the 10th Kyoto Animation Awards.

I like mah KyoAni, but importing as a private individual (i.e. buyfagging) has become pretty much impossible in Lady Von der Leyen's Europe.
They charge out of their asses for handling fees on import, like you wouldn't believe. And also, SAL has been dead since Corona, so shipping is also fucking madness.
Fuck the EU.
>>
>>
>>
>>286449707
As a fellow yuropoor, I can tell you that it's even worse than you imagine. Not only is importing for private individuals stupidly expensive, it is actually illegal. Well, technically it's illegal for the Japanese seller to export into the EU but same difference. Regulation 2023/988 is utterly deranged, the worst excess of bureaucracy bordering on plain tyranny.

So I'm safe (from a legal perspective), I guess. I was a very active buyfag from 2006ish to 2020.
Fuck the EU. I hope, my country leaves it after the next nation-wide elections.
Well, either that, or I'm leaving the EU myself.
>>
>>
>>286450170
Yeah, they only passed it recently and it only came into full effect at the end of 2024. And at the beginning of this year, my local customs office started to actually enforce it, withholding imports from me on the grounds that they are "not complient products." I couldn't believe it at first and now I'm utterly appaled by the brazen corruption behind that bill. Fuck the EU indeed. Of course if you already stopped importing then you won't be afflicted.
>>
>>
>>
>>286450310
According to the regulation, anyone exporting into the EU needs to make sure that it complies with EU safety regulations and also needs to appoint an "economic operator" who is established within the EU who can be contacted/held accountable in case there's any problem with the product. In essence, the EU is trying to force foreign companies to open branche offices within the EU and this is not a problem for big companies who probably maintained such branch offices already anyway. It's not affecting Nintendo or Toyota or any other big player. But it's affecting small-time companies and private individuals buying from them directly. And who cares about those anyway, eh?

Sucks to hear for you EUbros. I've lamented Brexshit (mainly loss of Freedom of Movement) but at least importing from Japan has been relatively painless; no customs charges at all up to £135 and even got away with going slightly over it before.
Hope things get better for yous
>>
>>
>>286450721
It's possible to evade this bullshit. In fact, most people are not aware at all that it exists, because customs does not have nearly enough personell to consistently enforce the retarded regulation, so importers only get fucked in the ass at random. But it's still technically illegal for anyone living in the EU to buy anything whatsoever (yes, including novels) directly from KyonAni unless KyoAni first jumps through all the bureaucratic hoops.

I'll never forget the quote their lawyer talked about the event after the arson
"...took the bullet train to Kyoto, showing up at the studio unannounced and proffering his services. Hatta asked Okeda to first consult his wife. When he found and spoke to Yoko, she collapsed in his arms. In a weak voice, she said, “Please help us.”

Comparatively denmoku seems to have toned it down a bit. Unfortunately with ishihara directing Ruri dragon its gonna have a lot of it, I guess it's a sacrifice for his snappier comedic timings.

>>
>>
>>286456503
at least with kyoani the post-processing isn't primarily used to hide ugly animation; they use it fairly well, even if it is sometimes disappointing to have detail blurred and muddied.
Hopefully we'll see more experimentation like CITY in the future though. That show looks so damn good.
>>
>>286457203
Leaks were that he is directing dragon anime and it was expanded upon later that it's maid dragon so nothing is confirmed but it's very likely so expect a bunch of post processing if that's the case, personally would've liked Ryo miyagi to direct ruri as he is the perfect fit for such material.

I can't remember exactly, but weren't they having a meeting in some basement floor then when they were trying to get out, the smoke was too much and most of them passed out while trying to escape? Fire smoke aint no joke.
