One morning, fifteen-year-old Yoshida Yuko wakes up to discover she has sprouted demon horns and a tail! Not only that, she learns from her mom that she has supernatural powers and an important mission—to restore her family’s glory by defeating the local magical girl. The magical girl in question is Chiyoda Momo, a student at Yuko’s school. With strength that is only mediocre at best, Yuko’s task to vanquish Momo will prove more challenging than she realizes in this topsy-turvy magical girl comedy.

And that's all for today! Demon girls and magical girls are just an everyday occurrence in this town, but Shadow Mistress Yuko (temp) doesn't stand a chance against the magical girl.

Not big on 4koma so I'm not sure I'll keep up with this one, but thanks for the storytime regardless. It's good to try new things.

I don't remember which events happen in what chapter near the beginning that well any more but it's a bit awkward to start and then really comes into its own once the actual plot shit kicks off and we start learning about the nature of tamasakura town and what the dark office actually is and stuff. It all seems like random throwaway gags at first and maybe it was when Ito first wrote the pilot but somehow everything starts coming together amazingly cleanly and there's some pretty heavy stuff, at first just hidden as implications behind the background gags but naturally escalating as real stakes start getting added.it's really tragic that the mangaka is going to die before finishing it

>was she not saying "Don't think this means you've won!" yet or is this just a different translation thing?
She is saying it. Funny thing is, "Don't think this means you've won!!" was originally something the official translation came up with... for the anime. Only chapter 1 of the manga was scanlated before the anime and used "This doesn't mean you've won, okay!!", and every chapter after that used the official anime translation's phrasing. Until the official manga translation (which OP is using), which completely changed it for no reason whatsoever.
The official manga TL has all kinds of weird and stupid changes in general. Like this gag about the pillow, Shamiko actually wants it so she can sleep without her horns bumping the floor (pic related) but official TL completely rewrote the joke to be about her tail for no reason.

One of my favourite things about this manga is the detail that Ito-sensei manages to fit so casually in the background. Momo stops the truck with her left arm, hides it behind her back during the entire scene, then you can barely see bandages on it the next day.

On a reread, it's good from the beginning.
To a skeptical new reader, you get more and more convinced of its greatness as time passes. Whenever you might ask yourself "is this even going to lead anywhere interesting?", the answer is yes.
I'd say you should give it at least 2 volumes, 3 if you haven't read enough manga of similar format to be able to tell whether it's your cup of tea.

Thanks for the read, OP. I'm glad I can hop into this daily while it's still on its first chapters. I love this series, and I've been meaning to reread it again to catch up with ALL the new chapters that surely released in the meantime! But seriously, this is nice.
>are you an impulsive shopper
I'm a compulsive shopper. If I have money, I have to spend it, but what I spend it on is usually really deliberate and maximized, and I'll hold onto money if nothing good enough actually shows up. There's just instead an itch to continue to browse until something does appear.

bro’s chasing that near-death runner’s high like it’s a magical girl power-up
I kinda get it though. There’s a split second after you push past the “I’m going to puke and collapse” phase where everything feels hyper clear and your body just moves. It’s stupid and not worth it most of the time, but it does feel like you unlocked a hidden buff.
Too bad for me it just unlocks the “dry heaving behind the gym” route instead.
>>
>>287330852
For a long time, I absolutely loathed exercise. The reason why I forced myself to start doing daily cardio (I like running in place, since I can do that indoors) was to lose weight, since my aesthetic ideals are strongly influenced by anime and manga (it's an incredible feeling to realize that a character that you used to find much thinner than you now matches your current figure; laugh if you want, but my ultimate goal would be to have CLAMP-style stick-thin legs). That's still a major part of why I keep doing it, but over time, it also just became more and more fun. About a year ago, I would alternate between running in place for 15 minutes and walking in place for just as long, for a total of about an hour. Eventually, I began to just run through the entire time long. Now, whenever I have the time, I like to do so for an hour and a half or even over two hours.

You guys are forgetting about GundamDeathscythe_Hell. Ito's husband. She confirmed he really existed about two years ago, when she was briefly visible, if not making chapters, during the 5/10 celebration for the anime/manga and Kirara's birthday celebration later that same year.
I think this long hiatus is less about her actual health on any given day but her husband noticing the pattern of hospitalizations when she trys to work and is just stopping her. A spouse can do that, all he has to do is threaten to divorce if she keeps making herself sick.

Official translation for Machikado was so bad I only bought one volume and never bought another, there's so many localization moments
>The pillow joke gets entirely rewritten because the localizer thinks "Iololol it'll never actually matter so I'll just change it to a funny word like butt", and then it actually ends up kinda important later on, but the brick joke never works because they mistranslated it in the first place
>Lilith with 45,000 years, because the localizer didn't know Ancient mesopatamia was only 5000 to 6000 years ago, which is the dawn of human civilization. And they didn't know Lilith was in the Epic of Gilgamesh
>Shamiko's fucking catchphrase got changed for no reason, in a way that makes it entirely stop working after volume 1 because the localizers are retarded. 90% of the time she uses it in later volumes it makes no sense because of the way they changed it, they didn't realize how core it would be to her
>There's so many things that entirely got removed in localization
Its what made me realize Seven Seas was a shit translation group.
You go and read early volumes of maid dragon and its the exact same mistakes; so many localization moments changing shit like changing Lucoa's nickname to "Ectal" not realizing calling her Lucoa actually matters
They're never allowed to go back and correct early volume translations apparently even when they botch it, so a lot of stuff that comes back around later on never makes sense to english readers, since they mistranslated the first instance
Some volumes feel like 4kids tier translation with how they messed up jokes in maid dragon because they saw the original joke as controversial, so they just mangled it in order to try to avoid implications, when the implication was the point.
Dunno if they ever got better, but the first two volumes are still really bad
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>287344971
Also forgot an obvious one
>Localizer changed all metako's lines to cat puns, and now he talks in all "Nyaa, meowsers, the time is meow" because the localizer didn't think him saying the exact same line all the time was "funny", so they tried rewriting him, not realizing how he was originally written might have been important for the story
Volume one translation really felt like "Localizer wants to prove they're a better writer than the original writer" sort of translation, with all the rewrites trying to add bad dub jokes
>>
>>287344971
>>287345334
Should the dump change to the fan translation?
>>
>>287345367
Its probably fine, I've heard it gets better in later volumes. But I still hold it against Seven Seas that they're too up their ass to go retranslate things even when they realize they were wrong with how they did it originally. Volume 1 in particular needed a re-translation but they refuse to ever do it.

The series is good, I just think Seven Seas fucked around because they didn't consider it an important enough series to put quality behind originally. Its honestly stupid that translators these days aren't allowed to read ahead in the story and make sure their translation doesn't fuck things up later on. Most official translation is just done with excel spreadsheets entirely detached from the original work these days, and then some guy fine tunes it a a bit or adds some shitty jokes at the end. Least I didn't hear as much bad about later volume translations, but I never checked that closely. I just know volume 1 and 2 had issues.

Its more that the pun was translated literally in the fan translation, it was translated much more accurately. Whether you think that's good or not is up to you.
In the official translation they just turned it into an entirely different joke, to appeal to Americans(morons) who don't care if its accurate or not, its "close enough".
