Too fast. She breaks almost instantly. It's the journey, not the destination, and we don't see enough of her journey.
I do appreciate the focus on making it an almost ... existential or religious struggle. For the Chaplain this isn't anything but re-purposing of a xeno into resources, kind of distasteful simply because he's not killing it. But it is almost at odds with the fetishization, because it's quick, mechanical and functional. And a Chaplain seems to be almost too important to bother making cattle of the Tau, it feels more of a Magos' job.
I don't feel like venerating the Emperor would be even an objective to force on a xeno: they're simply things, their beliefs are inconsequential. If they hate their new role, matters little, all that matters is that they serve.

Zola was a former ganger (with the Water Cartel) so with the Hive Scum being released and having unique fullbody tattoos I wanted to combine the options that existed, along with the water cartel one on her person (since she wears long sleeves and gloves, minus her neck and the portion of her arms exposed which are clean skin, so I thought it’d be really fun if she secretly had fullbody tattoos she covers up)
Also these are mostly headcannons:
-Almost all the tattoo options have the ‘compass star’ somewhere so I see this as either a symbol of tertium or something all the gangs collectively use as a marker of some sorts. Exploration, seeking dangers, etc.
-Hive Scum do make mentions of having faith in the emperor still, probably at a similar level to zealots based on one dialouge of a preacher engaging in ritualistic cannibalism, so a lot of Aquila’s, and for Zola I wanted to mix these vine tattoos with a parchment tattoo two different options had (the parchment having prayers on them)
—These vines or olive branch symbols appear between two different sets I believe, so I think this might be a tertium specific symbol? I like to think so.
-Big stained glass on the back. This was mostly bc I think this tattoo option is beautiful but also bc I imagine this is the symbol of the Conclave as a whole
-Underboob skull spiderweb was the desire to see the chest tattoos properly incorporate the female form bc in game it doesn’t really do so lol. Underboob tattoos curve more

Commissioner here. I can give some insight into what I'd thought up since I was debating writing a story at one point to go along with it but lacked the time and lost the motivation at some point.

Basically when I was looking up stuff w/ Penitent Engines I'd read that Sisters who've failed in their faith or through mistakes caused the death of others would be sentenced to serving in a Penitent Engine rather than simply being sent to the Repentia, so I decided to come up with something along those lines.

The idea I'd had was that the Sister in question was a Sister Superior commanding a squad and had come face-to-face with a Slaaneshi daemon alongside the rest of her Squad, but her faith wavered (possibly due to seeing a vision of her future fate/the fate of her Sisters) and she panicked at the sight of it. In the subsequent fight, her entire Squad was wiped out alongside most of her Mission, including the Mission's Palatine, her commanding officer, while the daemon escaped. The survivors of the Mission blamed her, and their Commandery's Canoness ordered that she be condemned to serve in a Penitent Engine.

The sequence I rationalized was taking place later during a planet's fall into a Daemon world (possibly the same world where she got her unit slaughtered), with her Penitent Engine and others being left behind while more deserving forces were evacuated. The faces that were emerging out of her now-daemon engine were supposed to be all the Sisters in her unit that'd been killed due to her actions, the Daemon she failed to kill originally having actually captured their souls to torment for its own pleasure for eternity, basically forcing her to listen to her dead comrades moaning wantonly and such while she's wracked with guilt (at least until she gets transformed). I'd also had the idea that the large head below her that's tongue began fucking her would either have been the Palatine, or a Sister who she was really close with/possibly lovers with.

When I was considering doing a story, she was going to be getting pumped full of aphrodisiacs and corruptive chaos poisons via the tubes connecting her to the Engine, and the tongues and such were by extension also going to be having an aphrodisiac quality across every spot they licked. She'd probably be a turmoil of panic and guilt mixed with unwanted pleasure as she's realizing what's happening and how her Sisters souls have been twisted to be toys/extensions of this daemon and are now making her feel more pleasure then she's ever felt before in her life.

Re: her mind. I imagined that when her womb tattoo goes from glowing gold to being corrupted is when her faith shatters from the pleasure and corruption warping her body as she realizes there's no hope and begins to give into/embrace the pleasure. I also don't think she could leave it even if it let her go, I imagined she's melded/fused to it organically now.
