I'm planning to make a weg as a sort of spiritual successor/remake of Haramase Simulator.
Not really sure where to start though.
I'm leaning toward either just using Ren'Py like everyone else, or trying to go a bit more sophisticated by writing a new simple engine using PyGame.
The mechanics I've got in mind might be a bit too intricate for Ren'Py, but I haven't even started learning it, so I wouldn't know. I do know just how much Ren'Py WEGs tend to feel like they're held together by popsicle sticks and gum if they have anything more complex than a Choose Your Own Adventure.

Old abandoned game that was designed to be quick and easy to make by just ripping characters and scenes from existing H-VNs.
The premise is that you're in a post plague world where about 99.9% of the male population is dead.
You play as a new recruit to a government agency to repopulate the world. Just show any eligible woman your fancy card, pay her a fee based on her rated desirability and fertility, and receive sex.
Of course, you've got characters and storylines that unfold, and regular girls in your harem who more often than not grow to love the pregnancies, and sometimes let you unlock additional scenes. Some of which don't even involve impregnation.

It's got an interesting management aspect to it with how the better girls tend to cost more money to breed, and you need to earn enough to afford to keep playing the game.
Of course, if you go to the arcade, you can play the cookie clicker clone (aptly with sperm impregnating an ovum) and earn a ton of money in about ten minutes. I even like to save scum the hell out of the lottery game to earn all the money I'll ever need. The game even gives you an achievement for doing both of these things.

Anyway, the game's all kinds of dead. Very Very Dead. Might even call it Cadaverific. Which is ironic because the current update from 2020 after nearly four years of no updates was called "We're not dead edition"

So yeah, I've got a ton of ideas for new characters, storylines, mechanics, and minigames. I think this one will be a winner if I put in enough effort to make it good.

Well, Like I said, I don't know what all is possible with Ren'Py. I know that it uses Python as the language, so hopefully that means I can add all the backend that I want as long as the frontend interfaces with the implemented function calls.

I'm hoping for a sort of JRPG/Mario 3 style overworld map where you can see your character moving around it, and maybe even see points of interest where you can find potential partners to scout out. The jobs in the game are going to mostly be mini-games with various styles of gameplay.
I was also hoping to implement a sort of RPG-style stat system kind of like how other WEGs try to do, then inevitably abandon after a few updates. Mostly for stuff like stamina, sexual skills, and fertility.
I'm sure I'll think of other wacky ideas while actually creating the game. At the moment, I'm just writing down story outlines, and trying to brainstorm character designs.

I suppose I don't technically need much to achieve all this, but as I said. I've seen how janky some games can get trying to turn Ren'Py into something it wasn't meant to be. I've got programming experience in C++, C#, and Java, but I've barely ever touched Python.
