There is a yearling coon who likes to rest on his back in my back yard, like a little fat man at th beach. I’ve seen him several times. You flip on the back porch light to go do the laundry or get something out of the freezer, and he’s laying there with his forelimbs flung out on either side of him looking at you. If I ever get a pic of him I’ll post it here as proof.
I have no idea WTF he’s doing. Moonbathing, maybe.

Henlo, racoon frens. I went on a walk this morning and I found these prints on a frosty board. They look like coon prints to me.
Am I right? It was far enough away from my house that I think I could leave him some treats. What do these little guys like best?
>>
>>
>>

100% raccoon prints
they like to kill chickens for fun, if you have chickens you have to make the coop raccoon-proof as well as hawk- and coyote-proof.
hell my dad had a weasel get into his chickens and kill a few.
>>
>>
>>5078353
In the streets, no, not usually, both kill each other on occasion, and are too skittish to be chill with each other most of the time.
But people have gotten birds, mice and cats to hang around without the cat automatically going into murder mode, raccoons won't be too difficult.

Yes and no, its a misleading headline. Basically, raccoons are adapting to urban conditions, but that doesn't mean they are "domesticated". So no smashed and slammed raccys thankfully.

Why would the urban environment select for shorter snouts, tho? I understand that when you move from foraging to raiding trashcans a long snout loses utility, but i don't see how it becomes disadvantageous to the point of being selected against

>The series revolves around a young boy who decided to provide shelter to a raccoon that was discovered by a hunter. As the boy attempted to domesticate the wild animal as part of his family, he soon realized through trials and tribulations that his efforts were futile and decided to release Rascal back into the wild.
>Raccoons are an invasive species in Japan and there is evidence that Rascal the Raccoon has contributed enormously to the problem of invasive raccoons in Japan.
>Although Rascal the Raccoon's storyline revolves around the difficulties of taking in a raccoon as a pet, Japanese citizens became inspired to import raccoons into the country as exotic pets, leading to unforeseen consequences.
i'm sure everyone itt is familiar with the story but it's my favorite example of catastrophically missing the point
