dogs will never have a real comfy community going on 4chan because their owners necessarily go outside. /dog/ has a lot of ultra oldfags entirely because they go outside so often they never get sick of 4chan. they also shitpost and troll more than everyone else.

>dog started limping from the back
>if you touched the area he'd either start whining or even barking
>he started to hide out more in the backyard than he usual does
>now he just seems to randomly bark or whine
>looks like he barely eats
>constant panting and heavy breathing
What's the possibility this is rabies? He's normally very anxious, and it seemed like he was relaxing up but now it's like his anxiety has doubled. This didn't really match with the behavioral changes in rabid dogs that I read. I haven't seen any excessive saliva either. He seems to drink water sometimes too.
Not my dog btw, but a family member who lives with me.

Sounds like conjunctivitis. If by "puss" you mean boogers on the corner of the eye(s) you can gently wipe it off. Pinkeye can go away on its own if you keep the eyes clean from boogers and he's not a risk breed like a Pug (they have thick eyelids that can irritate the eye more). OTC eyedrops if possible. Watch him for a couple of days at least, vet if it appears to get worse (or if he's a Pug) in the next 48 hrs. As in vet by Wednesday latest.
If the eyeball itself appears to produce puss you need vet ASAP because that could indicate trauma by debris.

>>5103359
A pet store probably? It doesn't seem urgent if his eyes aren't turning red and he's not blinking a lot. Wipe the discharge with a clean moist (just water) tissue. DO NOT use the same tissue on both eyes. You can just keep cleaning his eyes for now whenever you spot a good buildup, maybe he won't even needs the drops. Watch if his eyes turn red I guess.

YEAH he is.
He's started to try out nipping to make us stop and give attention and he's really into biting fabric right now, but overall he's still a very good boy. I think a big part of it is that he isn't self-regulating naps any more, so he gets over-tired and shitty like any toddler would. We're enforcing naps by just closing him in the dark bedroom with his bed and some toys and he has a tiny whine then goes straight to sleep.
Apparently most of his littermates have separation anxiety and whining/crying issues which thank fuck he does not.

Grocery outlet didn't have any canned dog food in stock, so I just bought a few of their whole frozen turkeys. I boiled one up for them and removed all the meat.
I added some extra goodies to their bowl along with the turkeg and they've really enjoyed it. They had no digestive issues from the switch and have better looking BMs than any premade dog food.
The meals aren't really balanced well aside from a very rough calorie estimate, so I won't be able to do this long term, but for the 10 days worth of turkey I have it will be fine. Almost half as cheap as canned food as well!

I know my neighbor is mad that she has to stop her dumb dog from barking at everything. Someone must have made a noise complaint, because the whole building got a paper mentioning a noise issue. The paper was vague. probably to avoid shaming anyone. But it must be about that dog.
Every time the dark barks even once, I can hear my neighbor stomp her feet to the balcony door, slide it open, and say something to the dog. It's too muffled to hear exactly what she's saying. I just know she's fed up though. I can hear it in her tone.
I'm so glad someone is holding her accountable. Nobody wants to hear all that noise.

You may not want to reinforce barking to go outside. When your dog gets older they will use their bark to tell you they want to go out fairly regularly and not just when they need to go potty.
I taught my dog to do a nose tap on the door handle and he asks me to go out pretty consistently throughout the day just because he wants to go outside.

First time buying prongs (getting extra links now). They feel like nothing when I put it on my neck and forearm. Is that normal? Is my dog really gonna feel it? 2.25mm
>>
>>
>>5104770
When Prong collars are fit properly they not supposed to hurt. They apply pressure evenly along the entire neck just like a martingale, but with more pressure.
Have you tried using a martingale for leash training before moving up to a prong? If you use a prong incorrectly it can increase or cause new aggression and make reactivity worse.
>>
>>5104770
>>5104772
The trainer I go to just gave me one of these to use as well. My girl has a high pain tolerance (she does not react to shots at the vet) and she's been fine with it so far. The trainer described it as a chainsaw compared to an axe lol. She's been really good with it so I'm hoping it's only a short time thing and then we can get her on something less aggressive for loose leash practice
>>
>>5104775
Ive been doing some research on prong collars and prong collar training in general for a while now. I knew they weren't supposed to puncture the skin or something, but I was surprised at how... Un-unconfortable they were.
I just got my martingale and PC recently. I haven't started any training since the PC was too short for his neck. I only know of prong+martingale collar training, so I haven't done any solo martingale training
>>
>>
>>
>>5104779
Prong collars are a communication device just like a martingale. Leash pressure in X direction = dog does X. That's it. You can train that with any collar.
Pain compliance is abusive and the wrong way to use a prong or any leash, and it can lead to increased or new aggression and reactivity.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>5104780
>>5104782
Prong collard are abusive no matter what
Magical training cant create a 100% guarantee your dog will never ever ever lunge, jump, or trip and fall. All of these will put holes in their neck and crush their trachea with a prong collar. This might hurt some egos but no animals is ever 100% trained. The most mindbroken police and USMC mutts still fuck up.

>Popping a prong collar is abusive.
I gave this sentence some thought, and I disagree. Prong collars are meant to simulate a dog's teeth, as far as I know. They don't hurt the dog. At least, not in any way that would be described as abusive. You could argue it's mentally abusive since it's meant to mock dog teeth, but popping a prong (according to the training methods I've studied) is meant to be used as a correction, and if you train properly, shouldn't need to be repeated 24/7. Now some dogs do yelp a little after a prong pop, but I believe that's more of a startling yelp
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>5105249
That is true. Your dog might pant and wag but they’re anxious. Every study on even mild aversives has confirmed an association between aversives and persistently elevated stress
>he’s panting so he’s happy :)
>his heads up and he struts right up to other dogs, how confident!
No that’s how dogs act when they’re always on edge
You hurt your pet dog for disobedience? Welcome to being a major part of the cause of each years 8 million dog bites! Dont forget he wuz well trained and he never done this befo.
Leave hurting dogs to people actually using dogs as slaves because they have no other option (ie: drug dogs). Those dogs are meant to be dangerous to unintended human interactors anyways. You have a pet.
>>
>>5105221
>OW OH MY FUCKING GOD MY THROAT AAAAAA
>they’re just startled. they need to learn to stop making me look like a cuck on walks. i decide when you sniff, what you sniff and where you sniff, mutt. keep walking at a heel. learn it. i will not be seen as someone who doesnt have full control of their dog, got it?
>>
>>

>its wrong to hurt your dog over stupid shit when no one and nothing is in danger except a misplaced sense of pride

>steadily being banned by civilized nations
>well studied as increasing anxiety and fear
>they dont hurt!
Their entire point is hurting and being capable of causing severe harm if a dog dares pull too hard
They’re used to halt attacks by police and fighting dogs because shock collars dont always hurt enough
>>
>>5105270
Assuming PCs do cause anxiety and fear: that's most likely because a lot of people don't know how to use prong collars correctly. If you just slap it on and do nothing, your problem won't be solved; if you keep using corrections over and over and don't reward your dog for doing what you want them to do, it might cause uncertainty and anxiety.
PCs don't hurt, but they certainly aren't comfortable. They're like E collars, but without the built in setting to be really uncomfortable
>>
>>5105273
Their entire point is hurting. That’s how they work. An animal doesnt avoid an action that just makes them feel funny. It hurts. It causes fear and panic. It feels like impending severe injury. It’s like an arm twist. You also dont need to use one.
>>
>>5105279
It definitely doesn't hurt lmao. Have you felt a prong collar before? I saw one at Walmart, but it was a hefty one, and those don't have much bite as the 2.25mm ones. You'll still get a general idea of how it feels though.
And PCs could be necessary for the life of the dog or owner, it depends on the circumstance. In my case, I want to keep my dog in a heel position and not in front of me; I don't want him to meet whoever is around the corner first because who know what he'll do, especially if they're a dog. I also want to make sure he's composed and I have control over him when we're outside on a leash. I've see what it's like when I don't have control over him, and it's not good
>>
>>
>>
>>5105293
Or he has a very bad trainer that has been corrupting him. Using a prong to train heel is about the most backwards and retarded thing I could imagine.
>instead of making a dog happy and want to stay by my side over distractions I will cause it great discomfort if it dares to leave my side for any reason! No dogs should not want to sniff things on a walk! That is BAD behavior.
>>
>>5105281
You are coping hard. Prong collars work by causing pain, stress and fear. That’s it. They are called an aversive. That word has a meaning and its not sanitized newspeak like “training tools for corrections”. It’s the doggy neck version of twisting someones arm behind their back when they act up.
Using them causes persistently elevated stress levels.
> In my case, I want to keep my dog in a heel position and not in front of me; I don't want him to meet whoever is around the corner first because who know what he'll do, especially if they're a dog. I also want to make sure he's composed and I have control over him when we're outside on a leash
This is fucking retarded. Your dog has problems because of the neurotic bitch that owns him. Weird how my dog can go back forward left and right and heel when i ask them to, no prongs involved, walking on a harness. I can’t always stop them from sniffing and pissing on the curb but who gives a fuck about that, really? Dicklets that feel emasculated and narcissists that feel diminished and panic like its the end of their dominant positio if they’re not always “IN CONTROL”?
>>
E collars cause less pain than prong collars and yet
These findings suggest that there is no consistent benefit to be gained from e-collar training but greater welfare concerns compared with positive reward based training.

Leave abusing animals to the cops and soldiers that need 100% performance and want violent animals - and are mildly abused themselves for the same reason - anyways. You’re not GI joe and it’s pointless and cruel for you to treat your dog like a USMC K9 tactical unit.

Why is /dog/ full of faggots obsessed with a retired husky poster that literally nobody else cares about
>>
>>
>>5105420
he’s a complete schizo that shits up multiple boards. Just look at the difference between a thread with him and without him. The former will have dog discussion and funny shitposting. The latter will have just garbage spam, him trying to force retarded memes/nicknames, and him having conversations with himself.

Why are you? I almost forgot that yid existed.
He was in a discord with the schizo basset poster and another /dog/ regular or two. He was one of the people trying to dox anyafag, and he was threatened with being counter-doxed if he continued, alongside leos owner and the basset schizo. Also he’s jewish. That’s all there is that isn’t schizo rambling.
The husky jew, the basset schizo, and the german shepherd guy tried to dox the texan dog rapist and got shut up because he doxed them back.
>>
>>
>>5105432
>some time later
>it totally looks like the basset schizo does all the spamming and it keeps trying to bring up the people who tried to dox anyafag in a negative light
>meanwhile anyafag is /an/‘s most accomplished ban evader
Who could be spamming /dog/? Definitely not the zoosadist who almost got doxed by /dog/.
>>

>basset schizo
a shitposter with a basset hound
>german shepherd guy
a guy with a german shepherd
they called themselves the barkbuddies, allegedly were in a telegram, and were connected to an effort to dox anyafag (dog rapist). maybe the german shepherd guy wasnt, and he got dragged in because he liked their dogs? i dont knlw but tldr
a zoophile is still butthurt at specific /dog/ posters for trying to get him arrested

I've only ever posted on 4channel and I never tried doxing anyone. Please don't spread gay rumors about me. Thanks.
The only connection the three of us had was for a brief moment when we were trolling the ai spammer guy like 3 years ago or whatever.
>>
>>5105449
> maybe the german shepherd guy wasnt, and he got dragged in because he liked their dogs?
It would be lame if a schizophrenic zoophile went after you because you liked the dog of someone who tried to put him where he belongs but that does seem to be why there’s an unbannable spamming shitposter obsessed with hating you

sucks that humans can decide dogs are holy for thousands of years (zoroastrians) and then decide they are unclean beasts for another thousand years (islam)
poor doggos have no idea why the humans they are drawn to shun them

Well they were just regulars along with me when the dog general was still kind of fun to post in.
Our dislike for the constant animal abuse spam on dog back then put us all on one side of the general, and then shit just got absolutely wild over time. A lot of hyper niche internet drama.

Pretty sure I saw that mentioned a couple times. Probably the drone video that I posted of my dog doing the long distance fetch. It's a fenceline in a grass field. There's probably hundreds of them that look nearly identical where I live.

>just found out dog has bone cancer on her leg
>owner is currently taking the approach of "just give her pain meds, leg amputation + chemo would be a bad quality of life, I don't want her to suffer that"
She's a 10 year old german shepard.
Does he have the wrong idea about things or not?
Is it true that dogs handle amputation and chemo better than we think they do?

Our dog would occasionally whine, but we thought it was just her being lonely. (I sleep in my room alone, she sometimes sits outside the door. She sleeps in other family's rooms).
Just found out probable bone cancer. And the whining was probably pain given how much its progressed.
It hurts. But it probably hurt her more so I can't complain. I wish she could understand me apologizing to her.

You know how some dogs that are very smart are also really sensitive and kind of display more complex emotions than other dogs? She's like that, but pig.
She's also shown clear signs of having empathy towards me and the other pigs in interesting ways.
