In the strictest botanical sense, pretty much every fruit that you consider to be a 'berry' is not in fact a fucking berry.
Strawberry? Nope.
Raspberry? Nope.
Blackberry? Fucking NOPE.

HOWEVER
Banana is a berry.
Pumpkin is a berry.
Tomato is not only a fruit, but it is a BERRY.

Many such cases.

They were at no point obligated to use the word berry for true berry or bug for true bug. If they have room in their vocabulary for “mesocarp” instead of “the flesh of the fruit” they could have made up literally any name instead of reusing something with a long established definition.

Idiots who wish to appear intelligent are the worst of all.

Yeah but it's also a vegetable since that is a culinary term. The whole fruit vs. vegetable thing makes no sense.
