I just discovered that I was still paying insurance on a truck I sold three years ago.

How do you not notice money being taken out of your account that you don't recognize? I get pissed off when I get a random charge from amazon because they only charge once it ships, it's caught me off guard before thinking I still had money in my account.

You are legally entitled to every cent back.
I work in insurance and did the same thing. I didn't forget about it I was just too fucked up to call and cancel for 3 years.
As you no longer own the vehicle you have no insurable interest in it which means the subject of the contract does not exist (you can't insure an asset you don't have an interest in) therefore the contract is not voidable but in fact void meaning it never could have existed from the date you sold your car.
It's pretty basic contract law but good luck finding a non-retarded person to help you.
Frankly the insurer has no right to keep that premium since they could never have honored their end of the contract. There is a case in Canada where a man was paying for insurance for 9 years on a car he scrapped and the ombudsman ordered all premiums be returned to him.
