alright smig chads
what are you buying while the market is trapped at SPY 700?
kinda weird just seeing it go flat like this, but it will break out after and blast off
and probably drop back down after the blast off
do you think 700 becomes the new support because it was the old resistance?
or will the crash down break through 700, and get back to 690 or 680?

American deployments of nuclear missiles in the United Kingdom, Italy and Turkey were matched by Soviet deployments of nuclear missiles in Cuba. The crisis lasted from 16 to 28 October 1962. The confrontation is widely considered the closest the Cold War came to escalating into full-scale nuclear war.[1]

How do I explain to my parents I lost 130k on the market? I built this up over 3.5 years, lost it in 1 month. I still have 50k, but I've been generous enough to pay my parents 5k for 8 months rent, and they always ask how my trades and investments are doing. Rent is due in1 week, my mom had a sudden emergency expense medically, and she is asking for another 2k, and I'm hesitant on giving the 5k + 2k for 8k, my parents notice my mood changes too and lack of sleep. Do I just not say anything and pay up? I know I can make the money back if I do safe holds for 1.5 years, by 8 months I should have half of it back.

I really dont know what caused AMD to go up 7.8% today. here is what i found:
-partnership with France for sovereign AI
-rumor Anthropic will use their GPUs
-possible CPU demand due to agentic AI (INTC was also up big today)
i guess its better to be lucky than good today.

If you're sad you missed the GPU explosion, then the DRAM explosion, or chips in general.
The next big thing is batteries. Within the next five years, leading battery manufacturers will 10x in value. It's going to actually become an even bigger bottleneck than chips. The whole supply chain for batteries is very bottlenecked.
Do what you will with this information.

With the datacentre build out, as electricity use rises, there are going to be inefficiiencies in the electrical usage. Excess energy will be stored in batteries to be used during peak usage hours. Electricity usage fluctuates a lot depending on what time of the year, and the time of day. The grid has to be able to support peak usage, but during parts of the day and year, the grid is under used. That surplus during low usage periods can go into batteries.

>With the datacentre build out, as electricity use rises, there are going to be inefficiiencies in the electrical usage. Excess energy will be stored in batteries to be used during peak usage hours.
So the future you envision is essentially the grids running at full force constantly, either to be used immediately or stored in batteries otherwise? Not sure how relevant this is today, but to some extent this starts to compete with the economics of converting excess energy into hashpower
https://www.aniccaresearch.tech/blog/the-alchemy-of-hashpower-part-i
Overall I share the thesis on batteries as a power bank though. The flip side of this is attacking the problem directly via nuclear though, right?

Did you know that the first instance of testing for performance enhancing drugs was first done for Animals rather than Human Athletes?
It was done specifically for Horse Racing. Why you may ask?
Because the sport (and the gambling markets for it) were dying because word had gotten out it was a rigged game.
But even with these new PED tests the suspicion of foul play permanently tainted people’s interest in horse betting.
>>
>>62122576
Nuclear, and electricity generation in general is the long term solution. But these take years, and years to come online, especially nuclear. What's going to happen in the short to medium term is optimising the electrical grid, and that is going to be done with batteries.

Yeah I agree. Tangential, but do you pay any mind to the competing economics of batteries vs hashpower? Both want to be running the grid at full throttle all the time. A datacenter (or whatever) wants banked power as insurance for their operations, essentially, but a miner just wants to convert it to capital. Both want to be located where electricity is cheap, miners are probably more flexible there though. Combined with the push to EVs, the grid is getting it's shit pushed in fast.
It'd be cool if batteries were efficient enough to do some sort of energy arbitrage. Like if ordering a cargo ship of batteries where it nets out to $0.1/kwh vs doing it domestically for $0.2/kwh.

It’s now down to just 2 (two) tracks left in the US. Both of which are in West Virginia.
With many more closures in Europe and Mexico closing their last track in 2024.

I said repeatedly I was primarily interested in the stock for short term momentum, and I didn't put more than 60 seconds into research. I am completely fine with this and routinely put in no DD. The ONLY reason I did ANY research at all was because this was a meme stock a few years ago, and I wanted to make sure I wasn't piling into a 'le epic squeeze' type thing.

Yeah idk if oil companies actually stand to profit much here. Do you have a rationale as to how they would profit? Their input cost has increased a lot, and their customers are very sensitive to price and may purchase less if it's too expensive.
There are probably some well positioned companies that will report great earnings out of this, like some niche refinery or domestic processors, but I don't see higher oil prices being great for oil companies as I understand their business model. They are squeezed between demand destruction and political control.

Ok, but everything else matters? Like I can't pick Japan but be a gaijin, or inversely everyone is white?
then there's the realism of the government policy on income and capital gains taxes
I think everyone would agree that what would be goat is a beautiful place where I fit in, tax polices like Monaco or Luxembourg for capital gains, minimal other taxes related to how I derive my income and probably overall good health trajectory of the country for the next 3-4 decades out at least.
the amount that the income and capital gains tax matters is also variable depending on how much I have and project to make. if I have nothing but am an extremely skilled trader, Monaco might be a good place to build capital, for example, just to avoid my wealth being taxed before it can compound.
if im a higher earner instead, id look at placed with lax income tax. so before I can answer cleanly it unfortunately depends on a lot of details that would define what optimal is

fossil fuels and nuclear are cheaper to just produce the electricity straight up, as compared to solar and wind (which must have batteries because they are not baseload)
for now, you'd never make electricity then store it in a battery to use later. but that might change in the future, as you point out.
solar and wind are tied to batteries, but that's just a forced decision. everyone would love solar or wind if they were just on all the time like baseload.
but what if batteries are just good, in general. well then you'd power them up with the cheapest fuel source
and fossil fuels/nuclear are the cheapest.
nuclear power is actually the cheapest by far, in terms of fuel cost, but the cost of nuclear power is because of all the regulations to overbuild for safety and the capital expense of building the damn power plants in the first place. the fuel cost is less than 10% of the price you pay for nuclear power
so eventually nuclear, will be best. assuming we change the ridiculous regulations, which we are.
so nuclear power + batteries are the way of the future. solar and wind are memes. unless they make solar way way better. which might be possible. wind is a joke because it's just a fucking turbine. There's nothing high tech about it, and there's no way to squeeze more juice out of that apple unless turbines just in general become 10x more efficient or more cheap or whatever. solar might get 10x cheaper
nuclear really could be 10x cheaper, in the future, for many reasons. but not with current technology/designs. those are just on par with fossil fuels.

depends on if they are more energy dense than oil. or easier to ship. they aren't liquid like oil is. those are just a bunch of bricks or storage containers sitting in a stack
good question though. probably not. you can just ship the oil, then use it here. then no need to ship batteries.
but maybe one day

I posted my business idea here, what do you guys think
>>
>>62122927
I asked AI, and no. it depends on the energy density and batteries are dogshit compared to basically everything else (including oil)
but the cool thing about batteries is that a battery brick can recharge, but a barrel of oil does not
in terms of shipping efficiency, definitely not though. we would still have oil tankers, even if half the power grid is batteries
1. The "Battery Tanker" Problem
Oil is one of the most efficient ways to move energy because it is its own container and its own fuel.
Energy Density: A single kilogram of gasoline or oil contains about 40–50 times more energy than a kilogram of our best current lithium-ion batteries.
The Weight Penalty: To ship the same amount of energy found in one large oil tanker (VLCC), you would need about 50 to 100 "battery tankers."
Dead Weight: When an oil tanker arrives, it pumps the oil out and leaves light. A battery tanker would have to carry the massive weight of the battery cells both ways (full and empty). This makes the shipping cost per unit of energy astronomical.
2. Why we would still ship the Fuel Source
If you are generating power in a "cheap" location (like a country with massive solar or nuclear potential) to power the USA, you wouldn't ship the batteries. You would convert that energy into a "Synthetic Fuel" or "Liquid Carrier" and ship that instead.
The most likely winners in this future:
Green Ammonia or Hydrogen: You use the cheap power to create liquid ammonia. You ship the ammonia (using existing tanker tech), and then "burn" it or put it through a fuel cell in the USA to charge your local grid batteries.
Nuclear Fuel: As we discussed, uranium is tiny. You can ship a year's worth of power for a city in a few lead-lined suitcases. It is much easier to ship the uranium to the USA and charge the batteries here than to charge batteries abroad and sail them across the ocean.
