I really like how there is some gap between Magfest and Katsu this year. Last year was rough with them almost being double headers
>what are you cosplaying?
Mad scientist, Hououin Kyouma
>any panels/events you’re interested in?
Eh, I find myself rarely going to panels at conventions. I've got some friends/groups I'm going to meet up with, but I'll otherwise play it by ear and see what happens
>where the parties at?
Everywhere, really. Just bum around the gazebo at night and booze up with the strangers there. If you're friendly, they'll surely invite you along. It's worked for me so far
>>
>>10967442
post Kyouma cosplay at some point. I did a rather subpar cosplay of him at a local con a few months ago and I wanna see what a good one looks like for future reference
>>
>>10967447
half expected that post was you, with the trip off

t. Crossplay OP
>>
glad to be back in the USA, can't wait
>>
>>10967425
Chat Noir. Celty Sturluson. Some random catboy.

Same shit as Mag, although Katsu feels like a more appropriate venue for them.
>>
>>10967447
I haven't taken any pictures yet, but I wouldn't necessarily call mine "good." The scuffed part is that I'm going to try to just style my hair instead of wearing (or foregoing) a wig, but mine is a bit longer than his and pretty curly, so we'll see how that goes when the time comes. I would be surprised how a scuffed cosplay of him would be, since all the parts are easily sourced. Labcoat of the correct length, light grey/white shirt, khakis, canvas belt. I should have thought about having a friend print out the phone for another prop, but I'll have the pin and a Dr Pepper with me as props, so it'll be alright.
>>
>>10967425
This will be my first Katsu, what can I expect?
>>
>>10967525
Photographer setups lining every hall
>>
>>10967527
So is the main attraction just cosplayers getting their photos taken?
>>
>>10967528
Yeah pretty much

Convention near DC?

I'll pass, thanks
>>
>>10967536
If you don't mind taking the bus/uber, there are some cheap talking 350-400 for thurs->sunday right across the water.
>>
>>10967516
sounds pretty good. I went with a diet dr pepper bottle (because I refuse to drink the real stuff) and got recognized several times despite the quality of my costume and it being a smaller and more gaming-focused event
>>
>>10967528
Yes you will see soon that its the main draw for people to the building
>>
>>10967528
Pic rel is the main draw, and it's outside the ticketed area of the convention. To your previous question, expect some less than friendly crowds. This isn't demoralization or a "skill issue" (see: Dragoncon, a lot more welcoming)
>>
>>10967565
>>10967550
>>10967530
How can I make the most of attending solo? I've only been to Otakon, where I mostly checked out panels and browsed the dealer hall and artist alley. Also heard that Katsu is more of a party con, and my impression from Otakon was that a lot of cosplayers already show up in established groups, so going by myself feels a bit intimidating
>>
>>10967566
You need a cosplay. Its an easy ice breaker that can help you make friends just by cosplaying something from your favorite show or game. I'm rooming at katsu with people I did not know yet last year, but met at other cons and added on discord after talking about the game we were both from.
>>
>>10967425
Crossplaying as Mina Ha from Deadlock. I'll probably just tag along with friends like always but I'd love to meet up with people from the thread again
>>
>>10967425
This'll be my first Katsu, landed a room at the Gaylord luckily enough. I get that it's influencer-heavy but I'm cosplaying every day, bringing plenty of booze, and can talk to people pretty well after a couple drinks in me. Should be a great time considering that. Just hoping we don't get slammed with another shitty snowstorm.
>>
who wants to make a few bucks styling my wig during the con?
>>
>>10967463
is mag or katsu better
>>
>>10967609

Based, fuck the parasites
>>
>>10967664
Agnes Tachyon. Wig's mostly ready to go, but definitely need an extra opinion and pair of hands to style the front.
>>
>>10967663
Depends. Mag is probably better for actual "stuff to do". Katsu is better for cosplaying.
>>
>>10967700
what's better for nightlife/partying

also what has more girls
>>
>>10967820
Katsucon has the best girls and cosplayers. Also has the best lesbian couples there too.
>>

I hear homestuck is making a comeback cosplay wise
>>
>>10967877
Because of the animation announcement. I've seen alot at mag
>>
Magfest drained all my money and I dont think katsu could top it. I'll be at the gaylord next year
>>
If you guys see a Suika from Touhou cosplayer be sure to dap me up. I be wearing that Saturday the other 2 days normal shit. Will be my first Katsu con, however more excited to walk around DC, will be my first time up there will be taking funny pictures with the Washington Monument iykyk

>>
What's with the chimp out of a certain japan imperial panel that people are talking about.

This. Whether they enforce it though, lol
>>
>>10968048
They been doing this for years. They don't have a tight enough relationship with the gaylord like mag does so it's usually loosely enforced. At worst the high traffic entrances will check for gaylord key or badge and the gazebo area being janny central. That's about it
>>
>>10968050
>At worst the high traffic entrances will check for gaylord key or badge and the gazebo area being janny central. That's about it
Mag "technically" had gaylord staff checking for badges at the door. But they were chill and let me in when i forgot my badge to grab doordash. Maybe they recognized me, idk.
We also "snuck in" a friend by bringing someone else's badge out to pick them up. Once you're inside the hotel, nobody cared if you didn't have a badge. The nighclub at the top wasn't even checking them. They check them at the dealers hall and panels and stuff, but you can do the exact same trick, shuttling around a borrowed badge like it's some sort of riddle involving a chicken, feed, and a fox.
>>
>>10967695
i'll be arriving today, sorry i didn't email earlier! no payment necessary just lemme know how you want to do it ^^

Alright, gulls, I want to try to wrangle some people for food/drinks tonight for people who are around. I'll aim for 7-8pm but, eh, we'll surely play it by ear. I'll be there with another anon, so it'll be cool to get a couple of us again. I'll be checking the threads too, but since trying to post on a convention connection is suffering, you can get me at Shoesofglass on telegram or crpack on disc.
>>
>>10968124
Katsu is thot con, you party, you go to the anime cosplay fashion shows to see half naked influencer thots.
Panels are always the worst things at these cons, I don't think there was a single interesting panel at MAG.
>>
>>10967700
Mag is the better con provision wise, but has a tranny problem.
You'll have a lot of fun with the arcade, music, crafts and loads of other shit but there aren't a lot of women.

I tried a hotel party once at MAG once and it was ran by two autistic cross dressing lovers, was awkward as shit and there were hardly any women.
One guy made-out with two unironic "got kicked out of my house and will suck your dick for a room" traps that probably were lobbyconning.

Katsu has less to do, has a shittier management in general but attracts way more women and better cosplays in general. You'll probably run into some known live streamer, the parties have less tranny potential and people are generally younger.
>>
>>10967693
What does ghosting mean in this context? Swapping badges?

I did forget to grab my fumo though, so I will be touhou-less tonight. You hate to see it

Day 0 always had the best action in anime cons when everyone comes in droves. Katsucon could done a five days event and still bring 20k in attendance.

Sunday con is always lame, if they extended it to 7 pm I think people would be less dismissive of it.
But the reality is the Gaylord allots a time threshold till weds for the cons to pack shit up and they for some reason have to get started Sunday evening.
>>
>>10968253
Makes sense, some dude at the rave in a black jacket was Uber fucked up and lack ramming into people screaming about how he was a professional figure skate
>>
>>10968258
I witnessed a shirtless dude being "escorted" BT police back to his room in the 11th floor at like 2am. The cops kept shouting "make way" so this dude wouldn't smash into anyone. He was bouncing off the walls and then faceplanting into the floor while shouting that he had killed someone. Completely fucking wasted drunk.

Con-side generally dies down. People still find a reason to party on sunday night. Its slightly better to stay the extra night just so you dont have to deal with the mass exodus while overly hungover.
>>
I don't think I like Katsu having gone here two years now. The venue is everything it has going for it, nothing else is interesting or fun. If it were in any other building no one would care
>>
>>10968272
It's a con that lives constantly in the shadow of MAG but is sustained by the fact that it segregates out the hot women and lesbians from the sausage fest + HRT riddled MAG.
The rave lasting until 3 AM I'm pretty sure is a new thing, they've been trying harder and harder to match MAGs energy, but the management is incompetent.
You're pretty much correct though, it's like how I hate Otakon because of its venue even if they say Otakon has a much more competent event set up than Katsu.

Cons that just become big merchant halls with no concerts, easy access parties, costume contests, dances and can't even squeeze an arcade in mean nothing to me.
I've disregarded every Comicon I've attended in the Baltimore convention center at this point because all that fucking was, was a merchant hall with a whole lot of nothing. Celebrity signings and panels just don't cut it.
>>
>>10968273
Katsu is better than MAGfest in my opinion but Katsu organization is terrible and has no great guests to show up from last year even no good panels. Also Katsucon won't party con no more if shit continues to bring more bad publicity and problems among them. One other thing get rid of Station Unity for godsake and an announced a Summer Katsu for next year.
>>
>>10968299
>Katsu Organization is terrible
Well yeah that's the point. Katsu has better con-goers than MAG, but MAG has better organization and entertainment options.

>Station Unity
Some dude was explaining to me what that was. My understanding of it is
>Parent company to Katsu believes for some reason or another that another Sci-Fi Con they run is a better investment than Katsu, despite low attendance.
>Continue to disregard Katsu and drain resources from it.

I don't quite understand what's going on with that, it must be some nostalgic boomer trekkie trying to force it.
>>
>>10968299
>Katsu is better than MAGfest in my opinion
For cosplay? Absolutely. Also there's far less "ugly people" at katsu, so the average attractiveness is WAY higher than mag.
For "actually doing stuff other than dressing like a slut and getting drunk" - Mag is better. I actually went to the panels and events at Mag.

Both have great party scenes - although POSE was closed for the entirety of katsu this year. They kinda made up for it with the rave-until-3am.
>>
>>10968263
oh neat didja get pictures?
>>
>>10968271
How much of the sound do you gotta deal with when you get one of those rooms so close to the gazebo? Is the soundproofing any good? Just curious cause my buddies and I were shooting the shit wondering about it sunday night when we saw the dudes still trying to party by the gazebo
>>
>>10968250
Some guy was crying in the middle of the hallway on the 9th floor about getting blocked on discord for another guy. We had to listen for like 15 minutes to figure out what was going on. We called listening into their conversation "radio" lol.
>>
>>10968302
>I don't quite understand what's going on with that, it must be some nostalgic boomer trekkie trying to force it.
They have nothing for an Sci-Fi con without all the good stuff. It's a waste of time and resources to have this event. Whoever runs this Katsu Corp are run by retards or on purpose to hurt anime cons.

>>10968317
>Some guy was crying in the middle of the hallway on the 9th floor about getting blocked on discord for another guy

>>
>>10968346
>It's the same feeling I get after every DC con, barely anyone's engaged.
This and ota are unfortunately very cliquey. I've gone to both about 5 times now and it's been kinda depressing how over the years people are more insular and just stick to their own folk. I can understand it happening at ota but at katsu too? Tt just feels bad. Feels like the younger gen z crowd(2004+) has some kind of "us and them" mentality that makes it pretty hard to approach people. The millennials are generally pretty chill and quite sociable but then you're talking to people who you don't relate to much(anecdotal evidence)
That said, the guys and I had an utterly fuckhuge(27 dudes) group from cross the country so we were chilling amongst ourselves for the most part.
>>
>>10968346
I did not notice this "division" mentality you speak of but I wear funny cosplays which dissolves all per-concieved notions.
>>
>>10968358
>This and ota are unfortunately very cliquey.

It's pathetic. I do not get the logic of being cloquey and rude towards outsiders over playing dress up. Won't lie, it was so bad last year (my last Katsucon) that I decide to say "fuck it" and only hung around and talk with my crew. You get the energy you put out and deserved.

>Feels like the younger gen z crowd(2004+) has some kind of "us and them" mentality that makes it pretty hard to approach people.

They be the main ones crying about how people arent welcoming or accepting, too.

Oh well, that shit will bite them in the ass and leave them wondering why they are so lonely and society is so closed off upon hitting their late 20s and early 30s.
>>
Having a drink to share and a cosplay while not looking like an eyesore must be too hard these days.
>goto an evening meet
>everyone is trying out eachother's drinks
>get lots of fun poses together
>get invited to room parties
Even works in the hallways
>group pops out of their room
>talk about their cosplay
>share shitty fireball shots
>get invited to join group heading to room party

Its all about flow mang. Once you're able to start you just keep going
>>
>>10968377
Some days you have flow, some days you don't. That is the nature of life
>>
>>10968377
you also cannot force the flow. there was about 8-10 of us in the room because we were all getting into ravewear and we were just shooting the shit and redoing makeup/wigs/changing etc when we get a knock on our door and it's a group of dudes asking if we were having a party. awkward and invasive...
>>
>>10968378
There's enough nights to catch it once. I believe in you.

>>10968380
This is also fair. I very much prefer not having to knock on random noisy rooms for that reason alone. Reeks of trying to be on some conquest than an adventure. In an age of vibes, that distinction is noticeable and can lead to drama or a party. There's plenty of opportunity to have a conversation that lead to opening those doors for you.
>>
>>10968387
Nah, its just jokes from me. I'm not a particularly social or outgoing guy, but I've never found it particularly hard to find groups to drink with at cons. I've almost always gone to conventions alone and haven't had any issues. I don't know, it just kinda feels like the people who complain about it are expecting someone to walk up to them and just say "Hey, do you want free booze?" since I'm surely not skilled at finding parties
>KFC convention
Hell yeah, I should drive back out for this

Super gay karaoke this year. Calling it the "worst ever" is too far since it's so fresh in my mind but I have standards and this violated all but one
>Bad mixing (couldn't hear the audio on stage at all)

People could actually sing instead of mumbling or tone deaf yelling, and that's all the good I can say
