I'm looking to start cosplaying this year, but the whole wig situation doesn't sit right with me. Wearing fake plastic hair over hidden real hair is just weird. And it doesn't look convincing most of the time imo.
Why don't more people choose characters which have similar hair to them? Isn't real hair much prettier? You can still do a lot with it and it looks natural too.

There are a lot of characters with natural hair colours, but most of the time people still go for wigs. I'm not saying nobody should ever wear wigs, because there are costumes that can't do without, but why not use your real hair if you can?

Most characters are going to look like shit with real hair. It's just what it is.

Video game/cartoon/anime characters have more hair density than humans, so even if you have the same hair colour and same hairstyle it will look bad.
