Depends on what you consider fun. The combat and exploration is fun, as are some of the mini games and event games. Sometimes the main quest can feel like a slog though, Mondstadt was so boring it nearly made me quit when I first started. And Fuck Natlan entirely.

the characters (mostly), quests (mostly), exploration, world design and OST are all top tier, combat is serviceable but not something I'd say you should play the game for.
gacha wise, just getting characters you like is pretty easy for f2p (especially on a new account since you get showered in primos from quests and exploration), but getting their cons + weapons is when you'll either be heavy whaling or doing 6-12 month save-ups

What even is the actual gameplay of these kinds of games?

It really depends what you like in a game. I started playing it because I missed video games, this was free and felt enough like the games I missed that I enjoyed it. Gaming in general has become prohibitively expensive in recent years with a bunch of scammy business practices of which gacha is only one.

Pros:
>you have 7 regions worth of backlog that'll take months to get through
>huge open world map
>music is pretty good
>most of the cast is pretty likable
>you can quick start newer content and mash through old content if you just don't care about story
>omnipanders so you don't feel like you're in a harem simulator
>can do lots of random silly stuff in combat, especially in overworld
>story is pretty decent for chink written story
>guides, CCs, and other external content are a dime a dozen
>long timers on most events and end game so you can do it as you please
>even F2Ps can build pretty extensive rosters given time

Cons:
>new QoL updates don't get applied backwards (so you can't use focused experienced mode to avoid character conflicts in early regions)
>recent content is very thin on the ground; mostly just ~30+ hours of story with very few opportunities for breaks and the Fortnite mode for the new region
>building your characters/teams to satisfaction can take a long time, especially if you waste resources/make mistakes
>it can take months if not more than a year for YOUR FAV to rerun... and they might be on a scam banner
>your character might not have a playstyle you enjoy, an effective kit or a use case
>story content seems more about juicing retention numbers than respecting player time
>chink writing is still chink writing so don't take it too seriously
>they didn't revoice old Paimon's lines in EN
>resin/stamina system

We're about to go into Flins' first rerun and Varka's release. The banners run 20 days so if you play a lot you should be able to get one of them. Lohen should be 6.5 too.

Fairly standard, but you can do some pretty sweaty try hard stuff if you like that sort of thing.

You have your four way movement; a normal attack, skill, and burst; dash; jump; gadget buttons. Seven elements which react with one another in various ways. Then you can climb and swim (stamina bar) and puzzle gameplay varies from braindead to WTF IS THIS (guides everywhere if you get stuck though). Character kits aren't always creative, but they seem to enjoy experimenting on the boys (usually to their detriment).

The try hard stuff is usually abusing i-frames, animation cancels, the psychics engine, or just being autistic about how elemental gages work.

I don't think abusing i-frames are hard, you notice it the first time you see your character fold like a pancake during their burst without taking damage. It's more of a matter of determining which 4 stars have i-frames on burst, and where the rest of the i-frames are.
My favorite mechanic that isn't stated is holding Alt before switching to burst immediately. It's only really useful for the i-frames or to maximize absolute uptime on things (ie: Benny burst, VV) but I love doing it with Gorou and then switching to anyone else since the skill does nothing after that point besides give energy.

Yeah, most people can i-frame with bursts pretty easily. It's getting the timing down for dashes that can get pretty tricky especially with ping. Device age can make things like smooth gameplay or more complicated combos a bit harder than they'd otherwise be.

At least that's my excuse, but I'm probably just being skill issue.

I also enjoy excitementing with boys.

Autocorrect fucking obliterated my hilarious joke. I'm gonna go commit Harakiri.

Not sure what you mean by "these types of games" but Genshin is mainly a chill open-world exploration game, the world is full of lore and little secrets and side quests, and the main story and character stories are all fully voiced and develop nicely, something you can do at your own pace. I'm usually a couple patches behind on story since I take it slow and just do it when I feel like it.
I really love the characters though and I feel like despite it also being a waifu game it's also a bit more daring with its male characters, even pushing characters that are hated by waifu-lovers all the time (pic related) despite any backlash they get from that demographic, unlike pretty much any other developers

It’s the weirdest thing but it gives vague dark souls vibes. But as if it had been reborn as an optimistic world. Which is very different as a souls theme seems to be coming to terms with death.

Maybe it’s the ancient dragons? Also from the original trailer without context I thought Lyney was going to be an evil NPC twink in some blood borne like setting.
>>4021072
Genuinely kind of like a much simplified mobile game souls type movement. But easier with dodge being powerful

First thought of Lyney from the Storyline Preview back in 2020 was he’s going to be like “Marvelous Chester” but animefied

It wasn’t totally wrong even if he doesn’t invade as a red phantom.

Someone showed Diluc’a moveset is almost identical to the Abyss Watchers from dark souls, and a lot of the lore matches.
It’s almost certainly a homage.

Finally wrote that Genshin Fantastic Beasts verse fic where they’re all animals and fennec Nari (don’t ask how) and Scarameow are the first arc villains. They’re going to be heroes in later arcs ofc.
