Last issue, Rogue saved an airport from a gigantic possum with the help of Gambit, Ransom and Deathdream. While the citizens were being evacuated from the airport, Rogue spotted the man J. Stelton, who she recognized as a former Project PEGASUS security guard that she had previously encountered during a mission when she was a part of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants - a mission that she has trouble remembering. After a bizarre nightmare where she experienced warped memories of that same mission again, she decides to leave the Haven House to go and meet Destiny and Mystique regarding this mission. But will she get the answers that she's looking for?

And we’re back! It's the last chapter of Peter and Logan's dedicated title for their team-ups. They all began when Dreadshadow, a former SHIELD agent formed the Shadow Coven with Kraven, Omega Red, Mysterio, Doc Ock and his henchwomen, while pitting Peter and Logan against each other using doctored footage that made it look like Logan was behind the deaths of Richard and Mary Parker. Prior to his death, Dreadshadow revealed that all of it was to show them that they're not real heroes and aren’t responsible enough to make life and death choices, because otherwise they would have killed the Enforcer in one of their previous team-up years ago instead of letting him live, which would lead to him escaping from the Raft and kill Dreadshadow's daughter.
Weeks later, Peter and Logan were teleported to Earth-4587 — a world without heroes — by that reality’s Reed Richards. Reed-4587 sought their help to kill Arachnix, a man made of organic webbing with the duo's combined powers, for murdering Mariko, Reed's wife in this reality. Following their first encounter with Arachnix, the duo discovered that he had killed multiple variants of the duo that had all been sent on the same mission by Reed-4587. But when Peter realizes that Arachnix and the dead variants of him lacked a Spider-Sense, he devised a plan to defeat Arachnix by picking a fight with him and his Revengers, while Reed-4587 would snipe him during the battle from afar with a rifle that would halt Arachnix' organic webbing from regenerating. Despite being ambushed by the Revengers and Reed-4587 getting killed in the process, the duo were able to easily defeat the villains and handed over the frozen Arachnix to this reality's version of SHIELD.
As the duo teleported back home to Earth-616, Peter finally pushes Logan to go meet Mariko again after intentionally avoiding it for so long. But the duo are about to find out that Arachnix has already escaped and teleported right after them...

>They make money
They used to. Marvel is stuck in a business strategy of MOAR X-BOOKS = MOAR MONEY that worked in the 80s and 90s, but only the main X-Men book and the Wolverine solo are consistently solid sellers these days, and even those aren't Marvel's best-selling books. Flooding the market with 15+ x-books a month just isn't working anymore, and hasn't been working for more than ten years by now, and constant relaunches for new #1s can't even cover that up when it's books nobody really wanted in the first place.
I'm starting to wonder how much of the blind refusal to downsize the line is due to the usual "it's the fans who are wrong, not Marvel" and a refusal to accept that a book just won't sell top ten numbers just because it has an X on the cover anymore, and how much is internal politics and the X-Men editorial office not wanting to have the lower budget to work with that would come with having less titles. For all people rightly complain about Brevoort, a lot of the problems have been entrenched for a long time before him.
>>
>>152627498
>only the main X-Men book and the Wolverine solo are consistently solid sellers
Wolverine wasn't doing so great and Uncanny is ahead of the main book last I checked. All utterly mogged by DC, though.
Regardless, and I've said this before in other discussions: it cannot be overstated how much damage Krakoa did to the X-Men fanbase. It's been in a particularly terrible, insular, vitriolic place since then, and they haven't brought anyone the Krakoa fans drove off back to the books with the new era because they're still tiptoeing around offending the Krakoa fans.
The problem with catering to Krakoa fans is there weren't enough of them left by the end to keep selling the books.
This is less a problem with Krakoa itself as a concept, and more a problem with the sort of "oblivious eugenicist" fan that eventually took over writing Krakoa and ignored its foundational flaws just to keep it in a holding pattern where they could resurrect their blorbos and go balls-to-the-wall with their wildest, most unhinged, and least self-aware power fantasies while pretending they were making some sort of social commentary.
And out of that masturbatory drivel, FtA comes in with incomprehensible plotlines - probably because they knew if Krakoa kept going it would do permanent damage to the X-Men brand and did a poorly planned emergency pivot to FtA, using incompetently run multi-book "events" like whatever the fuck the deal with Xavier and Greymalkin was to drum up "excitement."
Trouble was, even the urgent pivot was too late. Damage was already done by the time Krakoa's book sale numbers started to drop precipitously.
Also didn't help that nobody gave a shit about Imperial, so you have Xavier off in a disaster of a book that people either ignored or hated, and the only X-book with any buzz behind it (outside of X-Men diehards getting mildly excited by Uncanny every once in a while) was the one in the Ultimates universe that is getting canned regardless.

It looks like Stryfe's which means Kali is probably a time travelling Boom Boom from the future where President Kamala is killed given that Seeley is trying real hard to play up this Cable/Tabitha father/daughter relationship deal and that her first appearance is directly related to Tabitha criticizing her. Also they have the same nose/face shape but that could just be artist sameface stuff.
So it's going to turn out that someone was going to assassinate President Kamala, the first mutie president, Cable tried to stop them but fucked up and accidentally killed her which leads to even worse shit for mutants. Future Boom Boom is radicalized, time travels back to the present sets up a new MLF. Also would play into the whole thing with the original MLF where Reignfire was originally supposed to be an evil Sunspot after having spent time in a bad future. Who killed Kamala? It'll turn out to be Cable probably in a totally shocking swerve for whatever reason (on purpose or, more than likely, on accident trying to stop an actual assassin) and the fact it was her surrogate father is what drives Tabitha over the edge and turns her into Kali. There, I cracked your mystery.
>>
>>152627791
>so you have Xavier off in a disaster of a book that people either ignored or hated
Xavier actually didn't even get involved at all with the main Imperial event book, besides just that one-shot Exiles tie-in, so you could not even know at all he was involved.
Marvel comics really fumbled the ball considering that the Exiles tie-in teased Danger being part of the team and would tie in well with how she's part of the X-men team in the Marvel fighting game yet that book is starting to look like it wont come.
>>
>>152627791
The 'fanbase damage' had been building for a good 10-15 years or more before Krakoa thoughever. All the previous mutant ethnostates, the extinction sagas and the radicalization of the X-Men away from Xavier's dream and towards Magneto's all played their part in radicalizing a lot of the fandom that didn't just quit reading. This is how we got people who completely bought into everything Krakoa because "mutants are winning".
>>
>>152627791
The Cuckoa fans don't even read comics. They just take pages and panels from social media and use them as fuel for their autistic obsession with shipping and imagining characters as gay. I saw someone on r/xmen complain that PAD ruined Rahne by taking the "obvious LGBT subtext of her powers and making them into being about straight sexuality instead". These are the type of insane losers that Cuckoa brought in and I personal feel like what we're getting is somewhat necessary to purge the X-Men fanbase of these retarded loons. It's the publishing equivalent of burning your crops when an army invades; your citizens will suffer in the short term but at least you've neutralized Napoleon.
So we're stuck with a few years of largely dull, middling books until these losers finally get bored and fuck off and then, hopefully, Brevoort takes a hike and we get an editor with some real vision but one not retarded enough try and win back the Cuckoa cultists.
>>
>>152628216
They can't move past Krakoa and drive off the fans who want that if they never stop talking about it and constantly have characters talk about it like it was the good old days they miss and want back. The best case scenario here is that they're stringing Krakoa fans along with an empty promise of doing it again one day rather than risk losing a sizeable chunk of the X-Men audience. Worst-case scenario, the books are doing Krakoa 2 or some other mutant ethnostate the moment editorial lets the writers do it.
>>
>>
>>152628077
Certainly had been building, but the inmates hadn't truly gotten the keys to the asylum yet until Krakoa. It goes from a blemish on the fandom to an existential threat to the IP in like less than 3 years after Hickman leaves.

I mean...on the one hand that's nice that the Constrictor I actually like is still alive but also that feels contradictory to how he was genuinely in love with Diamondback and also trying to settle down with her so him making her think he was dead feels odd or keeping his son completely out of the loop.

I think he'd do better in an editorial position. Since he seems to care more about worldbuilding and myth arcs and character archetypes than anything, I think it'd suit him better than as simply an author who has to play ball with co-authors and editors just to get the skeleton of a story into print, with no meat on its bones.
>>
>>152630828
NTA, but he only cares about worldbuilding that he personally writes. he's notorious for shitting all over prior continuity when he shows up somewhere. he did it right at the beginning of Krakoa to over half the mutant characters (you think Jubilee, for example, would be pro mutant ethnostate?). he did it in Imperial, too.
he comes in, shits up the setting with technobabble bullshit in service of mediocre plots, then bails.

Rogue got separated from Carol who got a new body through the process, and Rogue temporarily lost the Ms Marvel powers which went to Carol.
