The only thing this rizzler needs to be a permanent part of the show is to really care about Lori.

Magnificent episode. Really, really excellent. I would go as far as to say it's one of the best post season 5 episodes they've made. You know, I don't mean to harsh the vibe and start some argument after I enjoyed myself so much with this ep, but with this I'm really prepared to state definitely that, in my opinion, the recent seasons are noticeably better than the middle seasons or at least the average episode is more consistent higher quality, less hit or miss, and the hits hit just as good, plus each one seems better than the last. Season 9 seems pretty terrific from the episodes seen so far.
But I can't think about the show in that type of scope right now. I just want to focus on the episode. There's so much I dig about it. I like that it was a special also, Bobby and Lori deserved nothing less. Man, I'd go as far as to say I liked pretty much every little thing about it besides the fact there wasn't a song (I think musicality is important and does a lot for episodes, especially specials) and the 'red flags' thing, which I thought was too loaded gender wars-y lingo for a classic feel good show like this. But man, besides that? Spectacular. I mean really one for the books. I knew that this was what the whole breakup arc was leading up to, a really soulful episode about true love and true connection like this, and that's what we got. Could have been a season finale if this show did those, that's how high the quality was. Anyway, I need a second here to gather my thoughts. I hope you guys liked it even half as much as I did. What a kick-ass episode. Isn't that the best half hour special we've had in like five years? What would you propose as competition? Anyway, like I said, I need to compose my thoughts in a more readable way for now. Even my stream started working right as it started.

They're all reruns. The show is already over. We already got all the episodes since they came out in Italy. We're just now getting the episodes in the states. The only thing left is reruns.

The Loud House episode was fine, though putting Bobby and Lori back is nice, it does feel like the whole thing was a little bit of a waste, but it's nice to see they went through that to come back. Fun to see the Louds get some involvement too.
The Wylde Pak episodes. The first one was good and their heart episode again, and 2nd one was their wacky one, I liked how the twist was both families don't want to hang around each other.

It's kind of a mix, there's a part where you want them back together so the idea of having a rocky time and a little drama and some space isn't a bad thing, but the other part does kind of make it feel like a waste since they did get back together. Could be the timing, since they did condense it to a month where it maybe the quickness makes it feel that way.
>>
>>152650228
Okay, okay, okay, where to even start? There was so much stuff here that felt like fanservice or the crew stretching way back and giving us, like...It's hard to even explain. Let's take the Dream Boat itself for example. This is a show within a show that has been part of the show's universe since season 1. The Louds ahve been watching this all the way back since the beginning, it was a very established part of the world. Now, for them to actually appear in it, hmm. Let me put it another way. If they'd been on the Dream Boat in s2, I wouldn't have said it was cheap, it could have been a good little episode. But to have it finally happen in season NINE makes it feel like the culmination of something, like, the world feels so much more real because things don't contrive themselves for the family immediately or if they do it's in an entertaining way that is properly set up and makes sense, it's not instant gratification but built up gratification, like a nice gift for all the long time watchers. Another example of this is how it took multiple episodes over the course of three seasons for Lynn to actually set up his restaurant. That's not a small investment for what's supposed to be a rewatchable serialized cartoon that you can watch in any order, but it did pay off and give us a cool new location and a bunch of cool new plots.
>>
>>152650554
Now on the other hand there are times these sorts of moves can be a mistake, like sending Lori off to college, and though we did get plots out of that, I feel it would have been better, when you look at it objectively, to keep her home so it'd be easier to use her for episodes and they wouldn't have to be tied to her college life...But anyway, that's neither here nor there, and what's important is she's back now. Did you notice the TV crew came to get Lori at the Loud house, and not at her apartment? Which means that's what she wrote as her place of residence in her application, since that's where she is all the time. This was also lampshaded by that line in the episode where her sibs sneak over to use her stuff. 'Why are all these bills so high!? I'm literally never here!" I loved that so much. She really is back in the true sense.
I'm getting sidetracked. My point is, a lot of stuff had to happen for them to finally make this dream boat appearance, the biggest and most meaningful thing being Lori and Bobby had to break up. Again, this is a relationship that goes back to season 1, so if this had been legit, it would have been absurdly terrible, but as a narrative device in the hands of patient writers that could play out the breakup and then how they reunite over the course of the season, it's very cool. Something that could really, I guess the word would be to rejuvenate and reaffirm Blobby. Just think of all the stuff that had to happen for it make sense for Lori to be on the dreamboat and have Bobby sneak in as a contestant. It took some serious work to establish these circumstances and have it all feel believable and NOT cynical. I'll explain what I mean by that in my next post.
>>
>>152650563
Now this is crucial here, I really can't emphasize it enough, it would have been the easiest of mistakes to make Lori seem like a bitch here. Hell, one could say they skated close already. But to establish very clearly the instant connection she had with 'Jeremy' despite all, despite his constant fuckups, despite Jet being like Superman, her attraction, the constant blushing, the obvious chemistry and pull between them, her being happy just to be on a lame date with him even after Jet wowed her with his awesome date, was the central thing that had to be done in order for any of this work or feel right, and they did it. Oh yeah, and that awesome scene of Bobby getting the necklace back and then being attacked by a lightning storm of jellyfish and sinking to the bottom of the ocean with Lori's necklace in his hand, that was a *cool* scene, man. The perspective shots they used, the wide-outs, the first person blinking as a shadowy fingers plunges toward Bobby from the surface to rescue him. Look, that's a really cool technical setpiece, but what I want to talk about more is the emotional work. Bobby really is allowed to explain himself at some length through the whole thing so we can really understand the depth of his emotion, even at the end when he says "I'll be happy if she's happy." Maybe there's people that are hard and that kind of sentiment doesn't work on them but it works on me. I thought it was a touching feeling and I really grasped the intensity of his love over the course of the episode. Doing all of this just for her. Yeah, one could argue it's dated in the sense men and women aren't expected to care about each other or humiliate themselves or sacrifice like this for their SO anymore, but that just makes me feel like it's dated in the best way. Shows a little bit of that old style class, old style mentality, and someone like Lori, in my opinion, would actually be worth doing this kind of thing for. This is true love, and it goes both ways.

In fact, I would venture to guess that if the situations were reversed, Lori would have behaved in exactly the same way as Bobby: got Lincoln to help, disguised herself as someone else, etc., and the plot would have played out in much the same way, with them ending up together still. I really, really like that about these two, they really are made for each other.
I think most people would agree it's hard not feel like this episode was an 'event'. You had the whole extended universe make an appearance coming together at the end, you saw Bobby's store in Mexico with the location designs inspired by the TCG movie or maybe even directly from them, Ronnie Anne serving in a pretty important role and even bantering with Lincoln a little bit. Bobby himself as charming as ever, still the same sweet goof. Lincoln working to help his friend and his...I don't know what you'd call him and RA's, his friend who is a girl who he's kissed big brother, and coming up with a pretty entertaining and very Lincoln plan for them and really rooting for him and wanting it to be Bobby she chose. I can't remember what the very first joke of the episode was, I can only remember it made me laugh, so the episode in general was funny on top of being entertaining and feel good. Oh yeah, I remember now: "Did you answer "literally yes" to any of these questions?" I loved how the producer guy took one look at the Loud family and knew they were ratings gold and broke protocol to make them a big feature on that episode of the dream boat, I've always thought things like 'if this family existed in real life they'd get a reality show'. It's awesome the episode featured the Louds so heavily instead of just over the phone and stuff and they each had their opinions (especially Lola) and they were all right there with them and each had their little features in this big Lori/Bobby story.

And oh yeah, the deep cuts, the fan service stuff! Did you notice Sam watching the show with her little brother at Lynn's Table? We haven't seen him in like six years. There were tons of little things like that. Lincoln's gang watching at Liam's place. The goths watching and cursing over the commercial break. I was with them, since I was on stream I had to watch the commercials too lel. Made it feel even bigger. This episode is definitely layered and dense. I know that I'm missing probably two things like that for every one that I noticed. It's my impression a lot the shots were visually rich and featured some callback to earlier seasons. I really want to watch this episode again right away and I'm gonna. I don't usually do that since I prefer to let it settle but that was a stream in 480p. I want to watch it without commercials and in better def. Many, many thanks to the anons that uploaded it.

Actually, I was mistaken. It wasn't Simon, it was that kid with the stomach ache from Lincoln's old elementary school that made Lori realizing her true calling was being a teacher. Also, Meli, Sam, and this red haired kid who I'm sure has appeared before but I can't place who he is.

You know I thought that too but I guess since they're nineteen or at oldest twenty they didn't want to go for it. All the same the episode was a pretty triumphalist exultation of Lori/Bobby with ALL the fixings. We always knew they were for real but this episode shows they're 'for real' for real. Everything Lori has gone through up until this point as far as far as going away to college and then quitting college and then breaking up with her long time bf is expressed pretty directly by her and when they finally get together in the last minute it feels very old-style Disney, the score, it's all portayed in kind of the epic true love sense,a reaffirmation/ultimate confirmation of the two's relationship. I took a lot of screencaps on my secondviewing and I'll be posting them here. This was a pretty awesome episode as far as feel goes and I'd like to post some shots I thought were good ones.

Nice big shot of what I would call the premier background for this episode. There are a lot of very cool ones but this background feels like the 'star' in a sense, they go back to it the most, but the episode travels a lot. They really sail the seas in this one, and from Royal Woods to Mexico to the ocean to the people watching back home, it feels like a pretty grand affair.

I never said I wasn't, she's very cute too! Haha. When it comes to latinas though it's hard for any other in the show to compete with Ronnie Anne and her mom, they're the top-tier no doubt.

Oh well what a letdown, but on the brighter side this will be a good way to get rid of Lori (again), why?, because she basically went back to be the filler character everyone forgets about unless she herself reminds them.
And now that they're back together I suppose Ratalda will reappear at some point.

Dude, I absolutely love Mrs. Johnson. I think she's even hotter than the hot substitute teacher, although she was also SUPER hot. But her being a redhead and having her hair up in that bun with the pencil through it, just the perfect picture of a teacher, while secretly having that wild side to her we get to see sometimes. It's a classic hot for teacher type of thing, you can imagine her pulling the pencil out and shaking her hair out then starts climbing on the desk just like the music video. It's suuuch a classic sexy vibe. Anyway I also think she's top tier among the milf set of characters, and am also very much an Agnescoln enjoyer.
Here's the goth kids watching the show and getting pissed at how a commercial cuts in during what's about to be a big moment.

Yeah yeah. Anyway, look at the shot immediately preceding that one. I wonder which vehicle belongs to who? That's definitely Kara's skateboard and helmet combo based on color scheme, so it's interesting to find out she skateboards, but it looks like someone else also skateboards. I wonder who? I know Lincoln can at least skateboard well enough to film Ronnie Anne since we've seen it, that plus him skateboarding into the mentos pool, but he's at the loveboat, so it's got to be someone else. My money's on Zach.

Frankly, I've got to give it to Jett. The guy is like Bruce Wayne: Heisman trophy winner, EMT, chef, polyglot, abs you can play the xylophone on, can one handed press a boat and good looks, too. Though what really sealed the deal for him I think is when he saved Bobby's life. I do think Lori's instincts were pushing her towards Bobby even with all that, but between Bobby pretending to be someone else, her family pushing for Jett and the guy being so Superman, you can understand the choice. If Bobby had just revealed his identity and everything he's doing for her, she would have been his right then, but that wouldn't be as romantic and this way it shows Lori isn't some flighty girl; she jumps off a boat in the middle of the ocean to swim her way to 'Jeremy', she actually has to do something and make up her mind which is way better than just laying back and letting herself be seduced. She's ready to fight for 'Jeremy', ie Bobby, chasing him down all the way to that cabin in the middle of nowhere and then all the way to Mexico upon discovering his true identity. That's what really makes the whole thing feel good imo. It would have been emotionally incomplete without that part and I think it would make it too easy to resent Lori. It's cooler when the woman fights for her love too, it shows she's not just a vapid prize sitting back and waiting to get love and adoration but an active participant and willing to chase her true love as her true love has chased her. That's my view of it at least.
Here's a cute Lori on her scuba date with Bobby.

It's a little tough for me to imagine Stella skateboarding. She strikes me as too smart not to understand how ridiculously dangerous skateboarding is. That's why I also doubt it's Clyde's skateboard.
Something I like about this show that I think is kind of unique is that when they do the Ren and Stimpy hyper-detailed still-frame, it's usually of something cool or nice to look at, instead of the ol' gross thing/foghorn noise combo you usually see when cartoons do this. I personally much prefer the cool thing/sparkly sound combo myself.

What do you mean, you want the episode spoiled for you? Why? It's free to watch on youtube plus it's a good one, you should watch it. Or is this one of those things where the idea that Bobby and Lori might not end up together is something you find so unbearable you can't even watch an episode that plays with that assumption without knowing for sure if it's false before watching so you can be assured? I know some people can be like that. I try to avoid sad movies myself, so if it's that I can relate.

Lori staring longingly at the shell necklace 'Jeremy' made for her after dinner goes poorly with Jett (he's not into her family and wants her to move to Aspen with him and his family, which is frankly pretty interesting; he's revealed to not have been playing when it comes to this relationship or mugging it up for the cameras, definitely serious about Lori, but they're fundamentally incompatible.)

And the closing shot of the episode, the borders closing in until they're a heart enclosing Lori and Bobby, uniting them in love completely: subtextually, textually, and even metatextually. This special was a great romantic adventure, in my opinion, and I think especially gratifying in lots of ways for long term watchers like myself. I've been with Lobby since the beginning so for me it's a really wonderful feeling of true affirmation between these two, a in about as grand a way as I think could be done. They're unbelievably comfy although I've always loved the backgrounds in TLH, especially in the half hour specials you can really see them flex. I remember thinking even in season 1 that the Halloween episode really looked awesome. The show just has a very pleasing art style and when it's moodily lit to contrast to the usual sunday paper daylight palette (which is very cool in it's own way as well, a huge personal favorite) I find it makes it so that it activates the almonds even more.

That's a good point Rickyposter. If the usual pace of airing them was maintained then audiences would have been left to agonize over it until the dreamboat episode as they tackled other plots, with some teases thrown in here and there like when Bobby gets a 'girlfriend'. Anyway, I always had total confidence they'd find their way back to each other, so I experienced no agita from the breakup which I understood was an illusion, only a rich reaffirmation of Bobby and Lori's love in the form of a special which, in my opinion, had been sometime coming. I think at some point we got so caught up in the other couples that we took for granted THE couple, so to have such a heavy focus on rediscovering the two's relationship over the course of multiple episodes was something I found very satisfying.

And culminating in a special, I should add. It wasn't just personally satisfying but, I think, narratively warranted after all the other sisters and their bf's episodes. Lori and Bobby really needed a full blown storyline/arc to reestablish them as the premier couple of the show and I think this was definitely that.

>In fact, I would venture to guess that if the situations were reversed, Lori would have behaved in exactly the same way as Bobby: got Lincoln to help, disguised herself as someone else, etc., and the plot would have played out in much the same way, with them ending up together still.
If it did, it would have been funny if the giga-Stacy Lori would have to compete with in this hypothetical role reversal was Carol Pingrey but I guess it wouldn't have worked since they became friends unless this episode had happened a lot sooner.

Definitely! That's a big part of what I liked about it. From Ronnie Anne calling him to let him know how broken up her brother was about this and asking him to come up with some sort of scheme or plot to help him. I admit, RA calling Lincoln 'the man with the plan' unsarcastically, to his face, felt fanservice-y though I liked it a lot still, in fact maybe BECAUSE it was fan service-y I liked it. Kind of a cool thing to have her acknowledge that side of him since she's normally very cool and coy, but this is, emotionally speaking, a pretty big emergency and WAY bigger for everyone involved than getting access to sold out concert tickets or the usual less important type of problem. This regards the show's ultimate relationship and really what binds the Casagrande and the Loud clans together. The stakes don't get any bigger than this if you want to keep it grounded still, like not involving time travel or life or death. But for the viewer, for the Loud House fan, it IS life and death, Lori and Bobby. I think so.
You know, when I think about it, the whole episode is almost the inverse of that s1 ep where Bobby briefly broke up with Lori because he thought Lincoln was picking on his little sister. Like...You know what I mean? It's almost like the reverb of that eight, nine seasons later, now Lincoln has to help Bobby get back with Lori. I don't know, I thought it was really fucking cool to have such a back to basics style scheme where Lincoln is helping Bobby in such a direct way and his family isn't in on it. Though I think if the Louds actually knew Bobby wanted Lori back they would have supported him. But yeah, Lincoln coming up with the impersonation idea and the bargain with the original contestant and coaching Bobby the whole way through, even near the end where he pulls him off the plank and tells him directly to reveal his identity right now, and then later when he gets found out and Lori's pissed at him, it's so classic.
>>
>>152653532
>>152653860
It's cool man, it's very cool. Nice, strong, grounded emotional stakes that still felt important, and all the bespoke and beautifully lit backgrounds and locations and especially when both families show up at the end made it all feel like a big deal, which it is. The Lori/Bobby relationship is a huge deal without a doubt. It's majorly foundational to both shows and I appreciate it was handled with the gravitas it merits, and that them getting back together is treated as such a big triumphal thing.
>>
>>152653775
You know I actually really like this scene. I know it's just a kids show so of course nothing was going to happen but I kinda got the vibes that Bobby and Lori would have banged right in the store if the family didn't show up to interrupt. I think the rain kinda gave it that kind of atmosphere.

I never thought I'd see the day when Misha himself hornyposted! Misha, control yourself! I guess you could say the moment was sultry to a point, both of them dripping went and moody lighting, and yeah, one can imagine they could have definitely banged if the rain had kept on going, the classic crazy passionate makeout into hurried knocking over shelves you're so in love and in such a rush to do it type of sex. But I think the sunlight breaking through the stormclouds and enveloping both of them in a singular warm, perfect ray of it when they embrace was, pardon me, even bigger than sex (though I certainly never thought I'd say such a thing). It's like the universe itself approving of them. The whole thing constituted a very cool sequence, from that one scene where it's raining outside the mercado and Bobby is trudging through the downpour, to Lori surprising him, the way they look into each other's eyes and embrace, and after this is the big massive combined family hug. It's all pretty awesome emotional gratification and I really like the way it's put together.

I doubt this a lot, except for how they have handled the character in recent writing (most attribute it to his insertion in the spin-off with a kind of flanderization falling into 'limits' of development or personality regression...), and even more now that apart from the main series,... well, I cannot express the execution that the staff has done...
The point is that since his debut, until some point after s4, he hasn't been a unlikeable character in the show neither depectable for the audience.
>>152652257
>I suppose ten to eleven years on the air is really, really good. And I'd rather it end on a high note...
Quite varied postures, statements and perspectives around about it.
Not every work that lasts long enough to extend beyond its 'useful life' is synonymous with prosperity (only under certain aspects inside and outside that sustainly could reverberate it), as the yellow sponge mentioned about and equally from a family also yellow that debuted at the beginning of the 90s and closing the 80s.
The case of TLH is no exception, it's just that its wear has been gradual rather than abruptly precipitated, depending on each one's resilient spot and statement... in the events inside/outside the series during this broadcast period.

Sup SB99. Yeah, you better believe it. Not only do I like it, it's basically the *only* thing I like as far as animation goes nowadays, the last high quality, intelligently crafted and with a great main cast cartoon, at least in my opinion. I can't think of anything else on the air right now besides Wylde Pak that checks all three of those boxes for me. Even having just two of those traits makes a show very noteworthy in my eyes, and I only don't get more specific because I don't want it to seem like I'm trying to damn anything with faint praise.
That's so awesome that you intend to draw swimsuit Stella! I'm looking forward to it. That guy that loves pinay baes is going to be stoked, I introduced him to your work just the other day with that pic of teen Darcy (one of my favorite pieces you've drawn btw, you even drew a sorta sequel when I asked, really cool of you and I love that one too!) and he was really digging it.

It depends on what is 'coherently' possible in the situation, as well as on the characters and their real psyche as a whole; this is emphasized by how writers, superior or similar, have sometimes been seen using situations or certain characters as means or pretexts for intentions, subtle or explicit, and whose execution/development, at times forced, disperses the criteria of the fandom and audience

I have to agree with that anon, though not because of the handsomeness thing though of course that helped, but the emotional thing. It occurs to me that though both had dates with Lori, Jett's was just a continuation of the earlier feats and challenges in the sense he was simply further dazzling her with his amazing polymath mastery, but with 'Jeremy' the two actually talked and bonded and got into some pretty big subjects, there was an obvious deeper and more meaningful connection there. That's why even when Jett is benchpressing houseboats and 'Jeremy' is stumbling over his own feet, Lori still can't decide which she prefers. If Bobby had revealed his identity then, that would have been it. She still likes him better than Jett even when she thinks he's just 'Jeremy' and all they've shared were those moments together. In fact, she REALLY likes him, as evidenced by her getting his info from the host and jumping off the boat to desperately swim after him all the way to his shack in the middle of nowhere.
Anyway, it was Jett heroically diving into the ocean and dragging the jellyfish-stunned Jeremy up from the depths and saving his life that ultimately put him over the top, I think. Even then Lincoln was begging him to just admit who he was because he knows they're for real Bobby wouldn't do it, he truly wanted Lori to be happy and unburdened by the knowledge.
It's a pretty complicated moment emotionally because Jett really is as amazing as advertised apart from some slightly rough edges, so it's hard to root against him like a normal villain, especially after he saves Bobby's life. But honestly he could do anything or be anyone and it still wouldn't measure up to what Lori and Bobby share. True connection. True love. Even when they broke up they were still all the other could think about, they both freaked when they heard the other was with someone else, Bobby with the Love Boat guys, Lori with the softdrink advertisement girl. A romance.

Liam and Cricket could get along well too, though he and Bill also could bond well since Liam is way into farming more than Cricket is.

So I finally watched the episode earlier today, sorry I'm so late.
I'm ready to say how I feel about it, I think.
I thought it was... good. It was really great in the art department, especially for background stuff and the like, I know others have said it already, but still. Idk if I like every character laughing at "Jeremy" like he's a loser when they all liked Bobby just fine before, but you could chalk that up to that thing where all the sisters are done like a single character that happens sometimes. Other than that I liked it, I actually really enjoy when they do these slightly longer episodes, I think they work really well on a storytelling level with a little more time. But overall it's nice to see Lori and the family do stuff again.

Lincoln had to do a lot of persuading to get Lana to clean herself up enough to impersonate her twin, but you gotta wonder how much she was secretly into it.

What if Lynn's head is just shaped like that, she has a flesh knob sticking out of the back of her head that makes the ponytail permanent.
